Pros +
- Memorable: beautiful architecture & art pieces everywhere in hotel; swimming pool; spa service (excellent massage); accommodating friendly staff; good food in restaurant; accepting of pesos or US dollars; knowledgeable bar staff; many English speaking staff; pump bottle liquid bath amenities (no excessive plastic); small standing balcony outside room; quiet church bell time at night.
- We liked the location. The rooms are clean.
- Near everything in the central area. Very comfortable bed and room.
Cons -
- Didn't care for: loud children running & screaming in courtyard outside of our room at night; carnival music & very loud noise from nearby park (until 11pm); fabric ottoman bench seat very stained (had to cover with towel); fabric headboard discolored from many heads leaning against; a regular chair for shoe removal (yes, I'm old); the use of plastic water bottles.
- We got the impresion that the staff at the reception favors turist that are coming in tours, usually on their way to "Barrancas del Cobre". But for Mexican tourists we felt a litle bit on the downside, even tough we were paying the same rate. Our waiter at the "El Zorro show" was very nice and that is the only reason I didn't give the lowest score to the staff, but other than that, you can really feel the difference. Too sad to experience.
- Many steps or ramps up to rooms and main area, no elevator.

The buildings, ceilings and the dining room are beautiful. The grounds in general are lovely. We missed the Zorro show but it sounded camp- promising.
The food is not the strong suit. We saw the dinners included in the package tours and decided against. The breakfast buffet was average, and not memorable.
Great place- still quite full of tour parties but not in your face like the sister hotel in Barrancas- Le Mirador
Nothing- we had a great stay
it’s a lovely old building, lots of history, a beautiful style. the room was beautiful, a good size and an awesome bathroom.
it’s a bit run down, asking for 5 star money and not offering the 5 star experience . no tea coffee making facilities in the room, no safe. the expensive juice for breakfast was not even fresh juice, in Mexico? madness. the breakfast was just ok, much better food in every direction in el fuerte and much cheaper. tortillas arrived after i had finished my breakfast, no apology. expensive average coffee. could be so much better. we stayed as my wife used to go to this hotel with her family 40, 50 years ago to swim and to go to the disco there in the 80s. so for her it was very nostalgic, which i think they are relying on. other hotels as good in town at half the price.
This hotel is built around the former governor's mansion built in the late 1600's. El Fuerte was the center of the revolution of the early 1800's when the people of Mexico took back their country from a dictator. The hotel has antiques galore, and a courtyard like you've never seen. This sprawling property has gardens everywhere. It is right off the main square and two blocks from the river and main fort. Unbelievable hotel and location. Price was great!
We stayed at the beginning of our Cooper Canyon Trip. We had our own vehicle which we parked in front of the hotel and was told many times, it is very safe (it was still there when we returned in 5 days!) The hotel is very beautiful and had many courtyards to explore. The room was very nice and worth the price (however, I would book direct to save on any 3rd party booking fees). We paid the $200 Peso for the Zorro show even though we do not speak Spanish, but they said it had music and dancing (but the dancing was the guests dancing with zorro and the music was only 3 songs while the guest danced) They did credit your $200P towards your tab, so we did get a good meal and drink. The hotel is in a nice location with shops and restaurants in the area.
The hotel provided Transporation to the train station (which is a good 15-20 minutes away), but we were told we would not have a return trip cause we were not staying another night. For the price of the hotel and the amount of hotel vehicles picking up at the train station, I thought a round trip should be included.
Location was great. Charming hotel
The staff were very unfriendly and seemed to not want to help anyone
Very beautiful - great location - so much to see and do Staff were fantastic and friendly - room was gorgeous We did the river boat tour through the hotel and it was fantastic - so many birds El Fuerte is a beautiful heritage town - definitely visit and stay at Hotel Posada Del Hidalgo
The bar, the staff, the beauty of the property, the location, the shuttle service, the Zorro show, the pool
The wine pours were skimpy
Breakfast was fine, as were all the meals, and we really liked the bartenders Marcos and Chapo

Just a beautiful hotel with a great bar and lovely grounds. Location can't be better. They even picked us up from the train station with a bus for no additional charge.
Place was great, can't think of a thing.
Lovely setting, rooms dispersed around gardens, very central, friendly and safe.
The hotel receives large coach parties so best to try to avoid dealing with reception at such moments!
The view was incredible, room had great view of canyon.. Rustic accommodations right on the rim. Very good breakfast and dinner. Right across from the train station.
Room was musty smelling, open doors and fan cleared most out. Heater noisy.
Very beautiful hotel! The whole area is very well maintained. Nice rooms, AC working well, good Wifi. Nice staff, some could speak English. Comfortable bed. Nice hotel bar with very good cocktails.
We had a room where the window faced the street, the isolation was really bad and you could hear exactly everything going on outside, including traffic, dogs, a rooster and loud music in the middle of the night.
Great location, beautiful rooms and stunning gardens.
this place is an amazing historic mansion which was constructed back in the 19th century! very beautiful Spanish colonial architecture and well maintained. very clean and staff was amazing! seriously I think the staff are of the best I’ve seen.
I wish the owners of this place rewarded their staff better because they really deserve it.
Elegant Hotel. I appreciated the bus transfer to the hotel. Dining room excellent. Helpful staff. Hotel controlled mosquitoes well.
The room was clean and cool and comfortable, we loved walking around the grounds and we even played pool!
We would have appreciated some non-dairy milk for our coffee and an option for a vegan breakfast/meal.
