    Pros +

    • fabulous Location and extremely helpful staff
    • Staff very helpful/friendly. Beachfront. Environmental commitment (including sign explaining dumb government requirement to encase all towels in plastic, but asking guests to recycle bags so staff can reuse).
    • Glad to have upgraded to Ocean front, balcony room 419. Bungalows lack privacy/saftey. Lovely little beach, bay here with soft white sand. Shallow and calm for entry and swimming. Nice quiet swimming pool also. Not really a party place but there is the bar area. Very eco friendly as bay is turtle nesting zone in summer months. Felt very relaxed. Enjoyed dinning at "Bakery" and Terrace Italian just off property. 3 small convivence stores adjacent. Bank ATM. Some souvenir shops also.

    Cons -

    • Should have two indoor comfortable chairs, not one. We knew there was no tv, but it would have been ansimple enhancement
    • The hotel could have provided more information -- a pamphlet, binder, flyer about hotel rules, amenities, etc. Hotel employee is very, very quiet. Shuts down at 9 pm even on Saturday. Beach itself, sea turtle snorkeling aside, isn't super pretty.
    • Lol Ha restaurant is just an overgrown beach bar with the most average food. Glad to have the other options but no fine dining or romantic settings. Taxi prices were astonishingly high along this coast. Lots of people coming to dive shops to get certified. Lots of Gringo tourists. No TV but that might be a positive. Poor internet. Very high prices at stores. This coast is having another problem with sargassum, seaweed invasion.

oh my goodness, this place is a snuggly little cutie curled into akumal. our little bungalow was sweet, a little vintage-basic, very cozy.

we were often confused as to services, where we could set up on the beach, and we sometimes got lost w all the little buildings. a map, or signs would have been great. the beach was very busy, lots of boats, snorklers, all kinds of activity.

We stayed here as a family of three generations over Christmas. The weather, setting, and facilities were perfect. The food prices are fair and the staff is wonderful.

    Ocean front

The adjoining door between our unit and the next one was paper thin. We could hear inappropriately loud music next door and screaming and fighting from that same couple. The baby was crying hysterically. It was terrible. No night watch person intervened. It went on die hours and we could not sleep. It was terrible!

First & Far Most The Staff & Employees 5☆. Location Perfect right off the beautiful beach and pool clean and quiet. Hotel is one of the original and still owen by family, if you dont mind non-exclusive its perfect,

Unfortunately the Beach is monopolize by Tourists Companies & Individuals keep MANY OF US WITH IN BOOWIES WHOM Respect The Sea Life due to UNEDUCATED INDIVIDUALS ...WHO DONT KNOW WHEN YOU stand on Coral killing it OR KICK ANYTHING IN THE OCEAN YOU ARE DISRUPT & DESTROYING LIFE !!! OCEAN life ...PLEASE EDUCATE Profits & SHOW RESPECT : We have been visiting Akumal Many Years when before we could snorkel out to the reef & see all the Beauty of the Reef & Grandfather barracuda & The Lg manta ray now the corral is dead & the Awsome fish life has move on away from this sea area its become a sad place for many of us who know what it was like yes the Turtles ? are AMAZING But they too will SO MOVE ON ...WAY TOO MUCH OVER THE TOP ACTIVITY IN THERE HOME LAND THEY WILL MOVE ITS A MATTER OF TIME. Again the Tourists Companies have Taken the Prime Beach for Profit. SAD.

Love the rustic charm of this place compared to the big, newer resorts. Love that it’s so much the same as I remember 30+ years ago, and although a little worn around the edges, it is quiet and in my opinion exceptional. The staff is wonderful! Even though there are many people that come from all around to snorkel in Akumal Bay, it’s possible to wander down the beach for a little more quiet. Sadly, though, the bay has suffered from too much love and hopefully the coral will recover.

We usually don't go back to the same place twice as we want to explore new places. But Akumal Caribe is such a great place for us that we did come back. We love that it is right on the beach, the size of the pool is perfect for our kids, the beach area is so peaceful - being surrounded by palm trees. Having breakfast with sea view and having different restaurants walking distance is a big plus.

The little cabana we stayed in is pretty basic, but the rest of the hotel (pool, being right on the beach etc) compensates for that.

the location is excellent. the beach is crowded mid-day with visitors but beautiful and uncrowded early and in the evenings. the pool is delicious. the staff wonderful. food at restaurant good.

    The location is beautiful

The beach is beautiful but you can't swim freely as most of the sea is a restricted area for turtles that you need to take a private tour to visit, there are even staff on kayaks checking no one crosses the lines, so the swimming is not as good as we thought

The location is perfect as it's right on Akumal Beach which is a great beach for swimming and snorkelling. The beach lounges are very comfortable and we were able to secure a great spot under a palapa right on the beach everyday and they are spaced well apart from each other. The breakfasts at Lol Ha were very good and we enjoyed many lunches at the main restaurant there as well. Our room was cleaned everyday by Manuelito and he did a great job. Manuel at the front desk was extremely helpful in arranging all our transportation to and from the airport and to the hotel we moved to in Tulum. We've been to Akumal several times before and usually stayed in condos, but since there was just the two of us, Hotel Akumal Caribe suited our needs.

We both like to read at night, but there was only one bedside lamp, but it was not a big deal. Also, it would be nice to have somewhere to hang wet bathing suits and towels out on the balcony besides draping them over the chairs.

Location was good right on the beach if you want peace and quiet.

Location was good right on the beach but bungalows were very rundown and outdated for the price.

    8ColonyPosted on: 3-8-2025

Hotel is beach front and secure. Attendants were waiting for us when we checked in much later than we expected due to travel delays. Filtered water was provided along with wifi. Close proximity to snorkeling and good food.

The bed was broken with noticeable depression on one side like someone very large or heavy damaged it (not necessarily something the hotel could help...). Very touristy area. Tried to stay away from Cancun with more people and all-inclusive experiences but Akumal was still more touristy than expected which people will either like or dislike depending on what you're looking for.

The location is perfect, and the restaurant was really good!

The bathroom and kitchenette areas are outdated.

Nice Location for my one night stay

Did not like the bungalows, not soundproof, with adjoining bungalow, needed black out curtains, as windows on 3 sides of room.

    7RebeccaPosted on: 1-20-2025

Right on the beach, however please note it is a highly touristed area due to the turtle sanctuary, so it is a rather busy beach.

How busy the beach was along with the rules associated with where we could swim.
