- Staying at the Chanabnal in the hills of Chiapas was a magical experience. Arriving at the inn, the visitor is first greeted by an explosion of colorful tropical plants since the inn sits in what can only be described as a paradise jungle. The main building, which includes the open air restaurant is comfortable and clean. The meals were exceptional. Freshly made chilaquiles for breakfast -- what a great way to start the day. And the natural water swimming pool, situated away from the main building and the guest rooms, is a very tranquil place. The inn is a great jumping off place for visits with the Kichan Bajlum Travel Agency to Yaxchilan, Bonampak, Palenque, and the waterfalls. The staff is friendly and competent. Of course, you could save a few dollars and sleep at the hotel in the town located in front of the bus station, which is fine if you are on a strict budget, but for the experience at the Chanabnal it is worth the extra cost. Although awesome in the photos, the rooms are even more spectacular in person -- and comfortable. From the train station it is just a 200 peso taxi ride. Fly to Cancun or Merida and take the Tren Maya to Palenque for a relaxing adventure at the Chanabnal.
- A spectacular place to stay when visiting the ruins. The staff was amazing and attentive, the bar personalized and perfect and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. The rooms are large with a "jungle feel" but comfortable high end amenities. The bed was very comfortable and the linens were first class.
- Out of town, in the midst of rainforest, where only bird sounds and howler monkeys interrupted the quiet. An elegant spacious building with large comfortable rooms and usable common spaces. Effective air conditioning. The pools were beautiful, constantly filling with spring water and set amid the jungle. The staff was pleasant, knowlegeable and personal. Best experience possible!
Cons -
- A little bit tired - needs some TLC.
- The rooms were a touch on the shabby chic side around the edges
- The first receptionist that was at the hotel barely spoke English and wasn't friendly or helpful. He was not able to recommend ANY tours that can be done apart from the one to Palenque and didn't try to find out anything, which was disappointing. It is also challenging when the staff at the reception don't really speak English. i understand that it's a different country, but as it is advertised as a 5-star hotel, it would have been nice to better communicate. The hotel itself was once lovely, but has since seen better days. I think for what it is, it's quite overpriced.I would have also appreciated a station with drinking water. We only got 2 small bottles per room per day and with a water station the amount of plastic could be reduced and everyone would be able to get some. The restaurant also had a lot of exotic food on the menu, including shrimp, salmon, curry and others. It would be nicer to have a smaller selection with fresh local food and more vegetarian food.

Beautifully located in the jungle, large park with a pond and a swimming pool carved into the rock, many animals, comfortable rooms, ethnic decoration, attentive staff, food is ok
Good size room. Lovely lake and gardens. Friendly staff.
A little bit tired - needs some TLC.
Gorgeous property with character surrounded by lush jungle and a pool. Massage available. Good restaurant and staff were great. We stayed in the presidential suite and it was AMAZING with a sis and own small outdoor pool. Well located close to Palenque archeological site.
The hotel was great at organising transfers from the airport for us and also tours/guides for the days in Palenque. We’d highly recommend taking their option for the private guided tour of the ruins and jungle as it was a highlight of our whole time in Mexico and a really unique experience. Room was great and a very good shower, comfortable bed and a restful night sleep. Staff are very welcoming and helpful.

The location of the hotel is in a secluded area of the rainforest. The swimming pool and the lake are a dream. The decorations and details of the place are also amazing.I really liked the environment, but I wouldn't stay again...

We have been travelling for three weeks but this was our favourite place. We stayed in a junior suite which was huge, well-appointed and had a balcony with seating. The place feels very tropical and has lots of trees and a lake and a cascading pool area. We ate dinner here and the menu featured a range of traditional Mayan dishes that were delicious. There were a couple of families of howler monkeys in the surrounding trees and listening to them in the morning and at dusk was incredible. Staff were all great and we would have loved to have stayed longer than 4 nights. Very hard to leave this special place right in the jungle. It was only 4km from the ruins, we caught a taxi there, but walked back via a very good footpath.
Leaving
When we booked there was no mention of breakfast in the tariff. When we arrived we were informed a continental breakfast was included. We were given fresh fruit, granola, toast and jam, cake, fresh orange juice and coffee or tea. It was a substantial high quality meal. The room we had was spacious and very clean. Water was provided each day. The staff were always helpful. The gardens are lovely. There were howler monkeys in the area but there were quiet during the night.
Nothing. :)
We were two couples who spent a week at the lovely Quinta celebrating our anniversaries. The location of the Quinta was excellent, a convenient distance from town and the archeological site. The check-in process was super smooth and we were able to make easy charges to the room (paid at check-out). The hotel arranged an amazing guide to the site (Mildred). We did the tour of the site and rainforest walk (highly recommended). The hotel arranged a bag lunch which was nice after a 4 hour tour of the site + heat. Our other days were spent exploring nearby water falls and enjoying the hotel amenities. The pool was perfect after a day of hiking and the birding by the private lake was a highlight every morning. The food was good and offered variety (we had most meals at the hotel). We our rooms were very spacious with great attention to detail. Always clean, good water pressure, and a very comfortable bed. The last item I will highlight was the service. Everyone was super attentive and extremely helpful! Loved the experience and totally recommend it!
A couple of suggestions to the hotel:-provide drinking water stations instead of plastic water bottles-a few board games or cards would be great to better enjoy the lounge area
Loved the Gardena md pool area. Really lovely jungle feel. The Myan food was delicious and our waiter Misal was just brilliant.
I think some elements of the service could have been better. The staff were good but for a 5 star lodge I would have expected a more personal service.
The garden with the pool is lovely. Actually having seen a family of howler monkeys on the property. Quite a luxury jungly feel.
I am searching for anything really. It was all fine.
A gorgeous setting, a comfortable, spacious room and a terrific staff
The garden and pools of this hotel are amazing. The entire complex is like a Mayan town in the jungle. The garden is huge. Pictures don’t do it justice. The pools (multiple) are cooled and so relaxing. We saw many rare birds, howler monkeys and a crocodile from the garden and pool. Room was very large and clean. Restaurantje was amazing. It can look kind of tacky based on the pictures, but in reality this hotel is very beautiful. I’m glad we spent two nights here, we decided to spend an entire afternoon at the pool here because it was so nice.
The hotel is really well kept and the staff & maintenance is amazing! Our dietary restrictions were well taken care of & the food itself was really tasty, which was hard to get as vegetarians in the region. The rooms also were really spacious and amazing, and made you want to spend time in them. However, would have to say that the hotel is on the more expensive side in general.
Highly recommend booking this incredible hotel with only 8 rooms while in Palenque. The staff is lovely, the rooms are big and very comfortable. The big plus is the pool area, built in the jungle and so peaceful. We saw a beautiful parrot while swimming and some monkeys in the trees in the evening.
Nothing, it was really a perfect stay for us
Lovely small hotel set in gorgeous gardens with a lake and swimming pools. We had two lovely large rooms across from the main building. Our rooms had lovely facilities and furnishings. We stayed for 2 nights and ate at the hotel each night which had a good menu choice. We had the continental breakfast which was enough for us but wider options also available. The hotel recommended Mildred Lucas for tour and jungle walk of the Palenque Archeological Zone. Mildred was amazing and we had the best guide and walk and I would highly recommend this for your visit to Palenque. We saw and heard howler monkeys whilst there so an extra special part of our visit too. We had a hire car and safe parking in the grounds of the hotel and we explored Palenque town a little too and lovely restaurants in the town available too. I would recommend this hotel and the small size provides a lovely feel and environment. We found all the staff here very friendly, helpful and professional. We would love to return.
Beautiful setting and good service
Felt a little bit weird that we were the only ones at the hotel
The Design of the hotel inspired by the Mayan culture and in the jungle
The neighborhood as it’s around with houses on one side and a ranch on the other, what makes the jungle effect less impressive.
