Pros +
- The absolute character in every part of the hostel. Such a lovely surprise seems it was only a 2-3 star. Loved the niches and nooks for reading or having some chill time. The ambience created by the uplighting at night- beautiful
- Character, cleanliness and cosiness.
- This is a fun lively space. I like how they kept so many aspects of the Jail. Rooms are basic but everything was clean with no issues. There were coin lockers which was convenient because I ended up reserving, leaving for a day, and coming back. It was nice to have a place to store my luggage.
Cons -
- lol, it was a cell,so no place for cuppa to rest or clock beside bed.
- A towel would have been nice.....
- It could have been clearer, but the problem was the guests who didn’t clean after themselves.

Quiet. Clean.

Different kind of place to stay, funny, corky. Good for 1 night stay. Staff was friendly and helpful. Easy access with PIN code. Shared kitchen was well equipped and plenty of room in the fridge even if was fully booked.
It could have been clearer, but the problem was the guests who didn’t clean after themselves.
Location and living area
Kitchen area and that some guests still hung out in the area that’s supposed to be quiet after the restricted time.
Authentic and historical. Well maintained and clean.

It's pretty awesome that the hostel is in the old jail, the setup and layout was well done too, location is great.Booking a double room to find no towels inc and been requested to pay for them is pretty rough though, these should be standard when paying for a double room . The toilets definitely could have been scrubbed a bit better as the same stains were on the seat and bowl for the duration of the stay.Overall stay was ok.
Nice setup with shared kitchen and outside seating area
Noisy in evening
Easy to find and very close to bus stop. Quirky. good kitchen facilities
Nothing to dislike really. A fun place to stay
Great location clean and good bed
Toilet stalls tinyNeed a fan in room
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights at the Jailhouse. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable, there was nothing else we needed. The kitchen was clean and highly organized. We were attending the Ed Sheeran Concert just down the road at the Apollo Project Stadium which was just 10mins walk so the location was perfect.
No complaints.
My daugher and I had a 1 night stay here in November when we went to Lewis Capaldi. The place is very quirky and has a bit of a backpackers feel, and although the room was very basic, the beds were very comfy and we had a bit of a giggle about sleeping in an old jail cell. The accommodation is a convenient walk to Wolfbrook arena, and the many eateries on Lincoln Rd.
We stayed downstairs and there was only 1 ladies toilet on that floor, which was very busy.
Easy to come and go.Parking was good except not enough for customers so people were parking very close. Several people neededGuiding to get out due to lack of space.
I liked the setup. The beds are comfortable. It is very quiet. There is a window and heater on every room.
The Hall between the rooms smells of the kitchen. If you get a bit fuzzy about smells it could be difficult.
Reception staff very friendly especially Sophie..clean spacious dorms ..ckean toilets snd bathrooms..outside space and generally a fun hostel.

Interesting property to stay in. Liked the sitting areas around the property. Lots of history on display. Kitchen well stocked. Liked the labelled box system for food on shelves.Room a decent size. Showers good.
Female toilet cubicles very tight for room.Fridges in kitchen very full. Trouble putting our salad bags in. Also lost food from it.For light sleepers, the building echoes. There is a curfew to help with noise reduction but sound really travels in it.
Authentic prison experience, fortunately doors are unlockable from inside
Description says extra long beds (>200cm) but I experienced standard bunk beds. Small and high-mounted windows led to poor ventilation and reduced outdoor brightness. Cells as well as community areas quite cramped. Everything very unpersonally with the fully-automed Check-in system.
Very clean staff were very helpfull no keys to worry about as main door and room to get in was all done by code
It was abit far out from Christchurch
Very unusual accomodation.Like actually being imprisoned.Cats were pleasant for the inmates. All in all an odd but interesting stay.
Ok for a brief stay.Noisey and echoed alot. But that would be expected.Had very little contact with yhe front staff.Automation is ok.But one one welcome,s during standard times would have made my stay more welcoming.
