    Pros +

    • Central location, great restaurant, short walk to botanical gardens
    • Convenience of on-site restaurant, spacious suite
    • Originally scheduled to stay for a couple of nights, my wife and I ended up with a serious case of the flu on arrival. We managed to extend our stay by an extra 3 days. This was a lifesaver for us and our dogs. The staff here are exceedingly kind and helpful, and I mean all of them. We have stayed at lots of places, at both ends of the spectrum but the Montreal is a whole other level of great. Beds, rooms, bathroom, balcony and basically everything else is top notch,100% spot on. Thank you so much for looking after us.

    Cons -

    • Someone visiting another guest on our hall somehow entered our room by mistake though our door was shut - that was totally weird. Restaurant experience was a bit odd too, though we had a dining reservation and only a handful of tables were seated we were not readily greeted when we entered the dining area though three staff were behind the bar. Then after we were seated it was again a bit of a long wait for water & a menu, & opportunity to order a drink. Then, several items on menu turned out to be unavailable and our first choices turned to second choices, which turned to third choices. Our waters weren't refilled, no dessert or after dinner drinks were offered - whole experience felt a bit haphazard - like the chef or owner was "away" or something ?
    • As above you guys did fantastic all around. If I had my way a couple of mugs in the room as opposed to the teacups and saucers would be more my style. Fat fingers you see....!

Staff were friendly and room size was spacious. Our room was on Montreal St and traffic noise all night. No Sky and chrome cast only worked occasionally. Only felt like a 4 star property.

Very good facilities, friendly and helpful staff, great location. A dripping tab was resolved very quickly with a room upgrade

The toilet was a bit dirty

Great location. I can walk to the Hagley Park and the Riverside Market easily. The view is lovely.Lovely staff, all the receptions and waitress are kind and helpful. The ground floor has a really cozy atmosphere to enjoy a cup of tea and dinner.Food is great.

The floor under the bed was uncleaned. There are spider webs on the tables and chairs outside. The cleaner went straight into my room without permission.

Beautiful room so clean and everything we needed

We stayed in room 100 and it did smell a little like cat pee. I think maybe the bushes outside the room it was a strong odour in the room. Also would be great if there were curtains covering the blinds to make it more black out as we had the street lights shining in throughout the night.

The room is spacious, the staff are friendly, and the hotel offers free parking—a rare find in Christchurch.

It gets quite noisy at night, and the windows do little to block out the sound.

    9PandayPosted on: 2-25-2025

Well located. Big room! The balcony was so nice! Modern room with very good amenities! Great parking space also.

    Nothing really

    10ScottPosted on: 2-20-2025

It was close to shops and restaurants. We had a junior suite which was huge.

We have stayed at the Montreal at least 6 times now, it's not the most opulent but has a certain Je ne sais quoi that we completely enjoy, the restuarant bar/outside/area is very relaxing and the food top notch, staff are always so friendly and accommodating the locale especially to the casino is marvelous, tons of carparking oh and always a pleasant fragrance to the place

    8MariePosted on: 2-13-2025

Great location, great parking, nice decor, friendly staff, nice food.

    9PaulPosted on: 1-23-2025

Great location, nice big car park and a great indoor/ outdoor bar/ restaurant

We probably wouldn’t stay in the tack room again, the road noise was pretty horrendous, but we will definitely stay at the hotel again

    7JenniferPosted on: 1-14-2025

Location was good. In a newer part of Christchurch with lots of new restaurants. The hotel restaurant is amazing! Even if I don't stay there I would recommend going. Lobby and front desk reception is wonderful. Free parking.

The hotel was a nice hotel but it did not feel like a 5 star hotel. Somethings that we experienced: water leaks out of the shower door so you have to clean the floors after use, screws fell out of the curtain when I closed it, cigarettes butt on the patio from prior guests, bed was not that comfortable with pillows being pretty flat, and our first room had a broken bed frame.

    10SommerPosted on: 1-10-2025

The size of the room, the styling and the block out curtains along with proximity to shops without being too close

    Nothing - it was outstanding
