    Pros +

    • Hotel room linen was clean and new. Good air conditioning. A supermarket is within walking distance.
    • Clean, comfortable and modern. Great location.
    • Perfect location, friendly and helpful staff, extremely comfortable beds

    Cons -

    • There seems to be not that many good eateries around by walking distance . Part of the neighborhood feeling unsafe with many graffiti when we walked. Lots of group tourist staying.
    • Was supposed to be 2 beds OR a King, and we got stuck with a King. Parking was expensive. They insisted that we use $35 Valet the first night, then we were allowed to move car to outside parking which was supposed to be free with room, but was $20 a night
    • The bathroom was dated and worn. The bedroom door was functional in case of a fire bur not what I expect for city priced hotel. The balcony (we were upgraded to a suite) had great views but had a sad looking picnic table and plain old concrete slabs - a lick of paint ans a few big planters would make this much better.

Location for restaurants. Room was big and bed comfortable.

The location was great with easy access to the hop on hop off city tram which is a must. It’s an easy walk to the shopping mall and restaurants The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The staff were wonderful.

The check in and unloading of the bags was a little awkward and not convenient when it’s pouring with rain. You will get wet. They have two parking options one outside near the hotel out in the weather which cost $25 which is not ideal when raining or valet parking for $35 a night which was worth it considering it was raining. For $10 extra per night it was a no brainer and they will go and get the car and park it away whenever you want. My advise is to call reception about 10 mins beforehand so your not waiting for your vehicle. Having said this we didn’t have a choice but to take up this option as the outside parking was already full by the time we had arrived.

The central location of Novotel Christchurch Cathedral Square made it an ideal location for our stay. The staff were both friendly and helpful and the room was neat and tidy. Good views from the room.

Comfortable, very clean, fantastic buffet breakfast

    Nothing I didn’t like

I like that the property is at the centre of the Christchurch CBD and facilities looks newly rebuilt.

There’s a weird vibrating noise inside the room. It’s like a vibrating phone or whatever but definitely not our device. Or maybe it was the HVAC creating some vibrating noise that we heard all night and it kept us awake for a few hours.

    Location

The air conditioning in one of the rooms was not working. We were a family of seven and had booked two Superior Twin rooms. We had specifically requested that both rooms be on the same floor or adjacent to each other, as we were travelling with three elderly family members. However, due to the air-conditioning issue, one room was allocated on the 11th floor while the other remained on the 4th floor, which was extremely inconvenient. The room setup was also unsuitable for a family of seven. While tea bags were provided, no biscuits or cookies were supplied. Additionally, the buffet breakfast experience was extremely disappointing. I have stayed at several Novotel properties in other locations and have never experienced such poor quality or service.Throughout our stay, staff repeatedly reminded us of the cost of items, which felt uncomfortable and unnecessary, as we fully understood that room service and additional orders incur charges. This approach felt embarrassing rather than hospitable.Overall, the service was unhelpful and did not adequately consider the comfort and needs of elderly guests. The room design was impractical, with the sink located outside the bathroom, offering no privacy when travelling with extended family.Accor and Novotel are capable of delivering a much higher standard of service. Unfortunately, this experience did not meet expectations, and I will not be choosing to stay with Accor again.

The location was great. The breakfast was nice with plenty of options.

The air con in the room didn’t seem to work properly. It was on 15 degrees but the room was hot.

Cups in room were not clean, no plates available

Staff was fantastic. Very helpful and informative. Close to everything and the room was comfortable

There is no sink in the bathroom ( there is one outside). No microwave in the room and the kettle was a very cheap plastic.

    Convenient location.

In room seems run down. Staff were not so polite. My family stayed for 2 nights while my friend stayed for 3 nights. On the morning of my checkout, my friend family and I met at the lobby to help load our luggages up the car. I was doing the checkout for the room and I repeated thrice the room number to the staff. The staff keyed in the wrong number in the system and he was like what room again? His colleagues heard and reiterated the room number. What disappoint me was that the “Indian” staff make a comment like holy moley, how many people is staying in 1 room? I feel that comment was uncalled for. Booked each night for sgd400 and two days prior, the price went down to $220. What!

Staff were lovely. Great location for looking around the cbd. Nice breakfast.

Our room was a little jaded but clean and comfortable.

    9SharifahPosted on: 12-17-2025

    perfect location.

We were initially a bit confused about where to stop and unload our luggage, as it isn’t directly by the entrance, but we figured it out later. For 4 people with 4 suitcases, the space felt cramped. (2 adults n 2 kids)
