    Pros +

    • This hotel was incredible! Everything from the moment you enter is the experience we'd been dreaming of. The service is impeccable and intimate, and it's an experience that anyone visiting Osaka would be lucky to have. The Onsen and gardens were lovely!
    • The location of Nanten-en is awesome. It's a bit out of the way, in a rural area outside of Osaka, but it's totally worth it. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful. It felt like a true 5-star experience. The food was AMAZING.
    • The garden and some very kind staffs.

    Cons -

    • Really, there was nothing I didn't like! The view from our room was fantastic. It is off the beaten path, but that's what we were hoping for; there are no restaurants around, so expect a 20-30 minute train ride into the city, or have dinner @ the Onsen :)
    • Only slight ding is that the hotel staff aren't available after 10pm. This is different from western hotels where you can contact someone at any hour. This didn't impact our experience, it was just different.
    • There is a gas smell that made my family members feel dizzy, including myself, and the hot spring contains Radium. The dinner and lunch were somewhat frugal compared to other ryokan.

the property was absolutely stunning. the meal that was prepared for us was one of the most memorable we while on our trip. the experience of the private bath combined with the traditional floor beds was just so cool.

I do not think I can name a single thing that I did not like about this property. The people were amazing and even getting to the property (which was a bit far out from Osaka) was easy.

excellent staff, beautiful and very peaceful location, very close to the station, very secluded and quiet. Appreciated the skincare products provided in the women's onsen. There was a little frog in the onsen area! Bring bug bite patches (or spray) as I got devoured the moment I arrived. =P

food was obviously curated with the utmost care and presentation, but some dishes were a bit bland? BBQ was excellent, though!

Beautiful, serene, restful place. Wonderful Onsen. Amazing food! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Everything met or exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend!

Absolutely fantastic place to stay. It's so convenient to get to, yet still placed in the middle of the mountains and great for getting into nature and relaxing away from the city. But you're only 8 minutes away from a smaller city and 25 minutes away from a larger city.

We left our hotel on Osaka's crazy Dotonbori to find a calmer Ryokan. We loved this place because of the old Japanese architecture & garden. It was our favorite hotel among the six we stayed in Japan (including Okinawa).

They have an old world waiting room that is charming, but has a serious mold issue. I stayed in there for an hour during our stay and had a headache for days afterward. I didn't think I was susceptible to mold, but regrettably cannot attribute this headache to anything else. Avoiding this room and this place remains our absolute favorite hotel.Oh, also there are very few eating options nearby.

The property was stunning. It is a traditional Japanese inn settled in Osaka’s Amami mountain area. As you walk up to the entrance, you are immediately greeted by staff who guide you gently, swapping your shoes for slippers and carrying all of your luggage upstairs. You are then given a thorough introduction to your room and accommodations, which was incredibly helpful for navigating our stay here. Dinner was served in our room and delivered in a multi-course manner. They accommodated my dietary issues (shellfish/fish) and made sure my meal was amazing even though it was different from the set-menu. We stayed in late-May, which made the hot spring perfect for the cooler evening weather. In regard to the hot spring, it is a great size for the property. The entire space is very clean and comfortable, making it an especially nice choice if it were your first-time ryokan/onsen experience. The staff made this stay comfortable and special for us. I wish I had stayed for longer, as there is so much to see just on the property and even more activities in the surrounding area.

This is a historic and beautiful ryokan just 40 minutes away from Namba station osaka. Amami village was very peaceful and serene. The staff is very attentive.Breakfast was good with amazing views of the garden. The kaisaki dinner / hotpot on the 2nd night was very good!

The welcome by the staff when we checked in made us feel special and valued as guests. The meals were generous and tasty and the staff serving them were top notch.

The shared bathroom sink was small and there was not any counter space.

Stunning traditional ryokan in a beautiful tranquil setting, delicious food, lovely staff plus an onsen! Wish we could have stayed longer to explore the walks and cafes & restaurants in the area, and just unwind in such a relaxing place. Quite the contrast to our action-packed week in Tokyo!

They made special food for me as a vegetarian and pregnant! It was an amazing stay, everyone extremely helpful nd friendly. The Onsen was awesome!

    Cannot think of any downsides.

Beautiful location, beautiful building, very nice and helpful people. It gives a perfect Japanse experience.

Breakfast is a bit early and the cleaning of the public bath in the morning is not a good time. It is too early to bathe before breakfast and too little time after breakfast before the cleaning starts.

    10AlexanderPosted on: 4-21-2025

Everything about this ryokan was perfect! The staff were friendly, courteous, and very accommodating. They can accommodate dietary restrictions. The facility was beautiful and extremely comfortable. The Onsen was so relaxing! The food was authentic and tasty. The town was beautiful, quiet, and peaceful. We can't recommend it enough! If you book a stay at Nanten-En, you will not be disappointed!

    Nothing, everything was perfect!

"Beds"not comfortable at all. Service was good but not worth it the price. I've been to way better places for 1/3 of the price.

Apology that I arrived late, the hotel still served us with excellent dinner and offered perfect service. We come with little kids and they were very helpful. It is very much appreciated. I would recommend to all visitors.

    nil. Perfect services.

This place is beautiful, and the receptiveness of the staffs is amazing. The food was delicious and the onsen is fantastic!

The hotel is like the pictures, very tradicional, clean and nice, what we expected. The place is quite far from Osaka, which I will not recommend if you’re planning to visit the most famous places. They ask you to arrive not late than 10pm which I don’t like it, we were delayed and they were a bit rude when we told them we would be a few minutes late, which we didn't like. In the end, we were able to arrive on time. And we paid for the dinner and maybe it is to our taste, but we didn't find the food tasty.

Amazing traditional ryokan with a beautiful garden and super caring staff. Very goos kaiseki dinner and traditional breakfats were very tasty and plentiful. It has hot mineral water source onsen (traditional male/female room separation) and it is open practically 24 hours! So you can go there really at any time you like, even at night, and relax. It almost never happened to us that there were more than 3 people at once and you get to enjoy the beautiful garden view from the onsen all by yourself. The garden is very well cared for and has a careful selection of flowers/trees that make the place photohenic from absolutely every angle. We visited at spring and it was full of roses and cherry blossoms. The rooms overlook the garden it's just really breathtaking.
