Hotel Nippon Colombo

The room had a very bad odour from the AC, probably from smokers in the room. Got sick from allergies and ruined the whole trip. However, the shower was nice and very healing.

- Pricier compared to our bookings in other Sri Lankan towns. - Bedsheets had stains. - No windows in one of the rooms we booked and in the other one they were locked while curtains were broken and impossible to roll up to get sunlight into the room. - Average breakfast.

The receptionist was helpful. It's my bad that I forgot his name :(. But he is in night shift. The location is good.

This 3-star hotel is good value for money.They have coffeehouse, restaurant and bar.Location is good and easy to order Uber. The building is also historical.The doorman was the best part of my stay. Always polite and smiling, willing to help and humble all the time.That is the guy which got all the tip in the end of my 3 night stay.

Worst restaurant I have been to in Sri Lanka. Quality of food is ZERO and service as well.Staff hung on their phones during shift (chefs and waiters) we tried it 2 nights and horrible both times. Ended up ordering Uber eats to my room.Breakfast is also horrible and coffee undrinkable.Worst part is the reception staff. Untrained and unprofessional. Just bunch of kids arrogant and impolite. No knowledge about the area or how much things cost. Were unable to give any advice nor exchange money. Eventhough it was black and white on the walk Hotel smells like cigarette and the clientele is not what I expected. I would not stay here again for 3 nights, maybe 1

The room wasn't clean properly( haven't vacummed) the wifi lacked connectivity, would suggest if there was a variety to choose from breakfast.

Their service was very poor. The air conditioner didn't work properly. The Washroom door was broken.

Staff was not nice. I thought breakfast was included which was only 2 dollar difference.. they didnt warn me in breakfast after that they said your room is not included and they charged me 20 dollar… unbelievable

We only stayed here for half a night after a late night flight, the check in process at 4 am was easy and the guy at the front desk was very friendly.

We messaged the hotel a few days before our stay to confirm the late night check in and didn't receive a response. There was no issue during our arrival itself, but it would have been nice to have some peace of mind beforehand.

Nice colonial style hotel. Helpful and kind staff. Excellent Sri Lankan breakfast buffet. Worse room cleanliness, should be improved.

Location was good, 2 floors of rooms w/lift w/cafe, restaurant & bar all attached. Hotel has a long history in Colombo which I liked - it has beautiful wooden staircase and framed local photos. Note there are 2 sides & car park rooms are quieter but not as scenic as street side rooms.

Breakfast was a little lax - yes they’ll toast yr bread & yum omelettes available if you ask. Kitchen also prepares the cafe food so I guess they’re often busy??

Could have been an option for a bit late check out. for 2 hours (3.00 pm instead of 1.00 pm) they asked for half day rent!

Disappointing Experience at Colombo Nippon Hotel

I recently stayed at Colombo Nippon Hotel for three nights, and unfortunately, my experience did not reflect the value I expected for the price I paid.Firstly, I was given two single beds pushed together instead of a proper queen-size bed, making it quite uncomfortable. Additionally, the in-room amenities were incompleteThe hotel's welcome note stated that room service was available until 10:30 PM, but when I contacted the front office, I was informed that room service was not available at all. This inconsistency in information was quite frustrating.During breakfast, I was well aware that my package was on a room-only (RO) basis and that I needed to pay separately for my meals. However, when I provided my room number to the breakfast staff, they appeared confused and kept going back and forth between the reception. It seemed as though they did not have an updated list of in-house guests, which should be a standard practice. After clarifying everything, the staff member informed me that my room was not entitled to breakfast, to which I agreed. However, the way they then asked, "Can you pay?" came across as unprofessional, even if it may not have been their intention. This reflects a need for better staff training in guest communication.At checkout, I handed over my room key early in the morning, and the front office staff asked me to take a seat while they checked the room. I waited for about 20 minutes, only to find out that the room check had already been completed, but no one informed me. During my wait, the only thing I could hear was staff engaged in social media conversations and personal discussions, seemingly unaware of my presence. This lack of attentiveness and professionalism was disappointing.Overall, my stay did not meet my expectations, and I believe the management should focus on staff training and improving service standards to provide a better guest experience.

The heritage hotel building, its café and the food.

The rooms and beds need to be cleaner. The towels should be cleaner as well and there should be more toiletries in the bathroom, for example, toothbrush and toothpaste.

Within easy reach of city centre. Nice coffee shop also bar.

Our room nice but the blind was kept over the window so it was rather stifling

Our experience at the property was extremely disappointing. Despite sending an email prior to our arrival to request an early check-in, we were denied access. From 4:30 AM to 7:00 AM, we stood at the front office, pleading with the staff, who were extremely rude and unaccommodating. We even requested just a place to freshen up before leaving, but they refused. This was by far the worst experience we’ve ever had, and we would never recommend this property to anyone seeking a pleasant stay.
