Taj Samudra, Colombo

The location of the hotel is great, right infront of the ocean. The staffs were very helpful. The restaurant food was delicious. The view of the ocean from the room was mind blowing.

Breakfast was good. A good mix of Srilankan, Indian and Western food.

Hotel was worn down and aged, in and out.Owners and Taj should support the hotel team with a proper do over, so occ stays up, rates go high, and Taj Samudra can thrive.No money, no honey.

Although it was a short stay, we truly had a wonderful and memorable experience at Taj Samudra. Every staff member, from the front desk to housekeeping, is consistently friendly and helpful, making us feel genuinely welcomed. The senior staff members were highly professional and very friendly all around. The food is great and location is also excellent with easy access to Colombo seaside. We’re already looking forward to our next visit.

Nothing to mention.

The staff were attentive but not obsequious.The room was a Taj Club room and it was the perfect size - big but not too big that you feel overwhelmed by the space.Breakfast was delicious.

As the Taj Club rooms are non-smoking, while staying there some other guests in other rooms decided to smoke which did leave a rather unpleasant smell for a couple of days, but the property attended to the matter immediately and with their jasmine air purifier, the smell was gone.

The guys working at the gym and pool lurking around and looking women up and down when they enter and exit the pool.

Amazing luxurious interior but the location is the best (alongside Galle Face hotel). Taj is BETTER located than the ITC hotel and especially Shangri-la but I really like about Taj is that they have created greenery within the hotel grounds making it quieter and more secluded too. This is great for a genuinely exclusive feel! Room and the large bathroom are amazing with their luxurious, interior fittings and great customer check out service provided by Anjalee who suggested that I could keep my baggage while I walked around Galle Face Green for a couple of hours before recollecting my belongings to finally go. Superb at the value price I paid! I'd like to go back and highly recommend this hotel and Galle Face hotel are chosen over the Shangri-la as Taj is much nicer, nicer grounds including parking and far better value than Shangri-la!

A minor issue but I had to ask for my welcome drink when checking in. As the checking in process begins, the welcome drink should have been ready and presented to me as I was hot and thirsty soin after arrival. This is important because the welcome drink given quickly helps to mentally settle into the hotel more quickly. .. this is the ONLY point for improvement! Everything else was breathtakingly good!

Memorable stay at Taj Samudra. Got upgraded to a club level ocean view room on checking in. Room was spacious and was very comfortable. House keeping staff were wonderful. Breakfast was good with a lot of varieties to choose from. Location was great facing the lovely Arabian Sea. Situated very close to tourist areas including the Dutch hotel shopping precinct and One Galle face mall is walkable. Overall a memorable stay with the family.

The restaurant could do with a makeover creating more space for people to walk around the buffet spread.

Central Location in Colombo

Rooms are not clean and mould in rooms. Doona is dirty and never replaced in years.Food is generic and tasteless either low quality.Too many supervisors wearing black in dining areas ignoring paying customers and disturbing their dining experience.It is more like a three star hotel quality in every possible way. Not worth for the money.

We liked the size of the room and very pleased with the cleaning services and the chef who was a whizz at dosas! The waitressing was excellent too!

The staff should learn to give equal importance to guests.While my husband who is white was wished & greeted every morning and pleasantries exchanged, the interaction towards me being Asian was like an afterthought or even ignored! We also did not like the way the way most supervisors treated the waiting staff as if they were nobodies- being charming and polite to your own staff is equally important! Also, many side dishes were served cold be it dinner breakfast or lunch and we had quite a few meals there

The location in Colombo is very nice. The grounds are excellent... so green, and extensive. It is away from major traffic, so good air quality. It is near the sea, so u can walk out to the sea area, and enjoy clean air there. It is easy taking distance to Colombo Fort. The gym is GREAT, the pool and pool area very nice. The rooms were very good. The mattresses and bedding very nice. The Indian restaurant the prices were very good, and the service GREAT. The lobby bar prices were ridiculously high. It is interesting and comfortable. Overall service is great.

Sri Lanka air pollution, in general, is HORRIBLE. They used to be 100% renewable electricity, but they needed more power, so coal is #1 now. They have MASSIVE UNLIMITED solar energy, but aren't using it. They just had canceled a $1B wind energy deal w India, due to the corruption of the past government. They have very old Russian rail engines, and busses, that are MASSIVELY polluting. The old trucks are terribly polluting. There are a lot of diesel autos, and two- cycle 2 and three wheeled vehicles, that are noisy and VERY polluting. They don't require pollution controls for any vehicles, so all cities have HORRIBLE pollution. So, traveling in and around Colombo, are AWFUL due to the street pollution. It doesn't matter if you are in a car w the outside air off, the pollution is so bad, you still have to breathe vehicle exhaust constantly. Tuktuks are a nogo, as you are in an open air vehicle, breathing exhaust constantly.This is why the hotel is in a great location, with clean air. BUT, you are trapped there, with the only healthy place to go, is the seaside. The wifi was good, overall, but occasionally was slow and intermittent. If you are not using it for work, it is good.
