Clean but small room

Toilet doors locked during the night by mistake and the other open one was far from my room

Excellent location, clean pool, spacious kitchen and bathrooms. We stayed in a different hostel for a few nights in Cairns first and then moved to this one. We regretted not just booking YHA to begin with.

Good location, good value for money with the dorm en suite rooms, loved having the pool to dip into and kitchen facilities so we could cook.

I wasn’t able to find a space inside with air con as there was no seating in the reception area

The availability of a pool though I didn't end up using it, the facilities are oxidised due to humidity but everything was great and seamless.

There weren't the usual fellow backpackers in that place but they seemed nice.

Toilets were spotless, room was spotless, staff were super friendly and helpful.

Laundry room could’ve done with an upgrade and room wasn’t huge.

Excellent all round: staff, location, facilities, use of space, wifi ...

The bed and pillows were firm, blankets provided. Love the white towels. Kitchen was fully equipped, neat and tidy. Convenient location, opposite Cairns Central Mall which has Woolies and food court. Rusty's market for local fruits was one street away.

No hangers or rack for hanging out clothes in the ensuite room. Bed is not Queen size as stated, it was a double bed with bunk beds. Only body wash provided even though was stated toiletries in the app.

Bad

I booked one night at this hostel/hotel and, due to my financial situation, I brought cooked food for the entire week. This food was essential for me, especially because I am gluten intolerant and cannot easily replace meals.I stored one bag of food in the fridge and another bag in the dry storage area. Later, I was informed by reception that my food had been taken/used because that area was marked as “FREE FOOD”. However, this was not clearly explained at check-in, and the sign was not obvious or clearly visible. This is not a standard practice in most hostels, and I was never warned that personal food could be taken by others.When I raised the issue, the staff:Placed the blame entirely on me instead of taking responsibilityOffered no solution or compensationRefused to store my food safely at receptionShowed a complete lack of empathy, despite the food being new, clearly personal, and necessary for my dietary needsAs a result, I lost a significant amount of money, was left without food, and felt poorly treated by the staff. I believe this situation reflects poor management, inadequate communication, and unacceptable customer service.Given the circumstances, I am requesting Booking.com’s assistance and a refund, as the stay did not meet basic expectations of care, safety, or reasonable service.Thank you for your attention to this matter

Central location and very clean with very cooperative staff.

Shared kitchen facilities; unfortunately for us, some of our food taken from the fridge.

Keen still to use the pool. Rusty's market so close and kitchen to be used.

Sour about the grade 2 cyclone scare, well organised though.

Well I was kicked out with the notion that I was using yha as a crises place but I wasn’t When I first arrived I stayed for 1 night then I pet sorted for 1 week then I went back to stay their but was kicked out as suppsibly I was using it as a place to stay in emergency but I’m holidaying up here I have reciects to prove it with what I have been doing my last person pets I was looking after rang to pay for 3 night accommodation but I didn’t ask her too I have my own money she was just being nice but I was kicked out over it I’m from Brisbane I’ve lived in my unit for 15 years I have a degree and working on my masters I can barely walk and was kicked out the reason I chose that yha as it’s close to my train when I leave. As I can barely walk

Its nice to have a cheap option for a night when you're on the run to the next thing and don't need top of the shelf stay. Its a 15 minute talk to the city, room is big, bathroom is ok. For the price, great value.

I think the bathrooms could have been cleaner, and toilet paper checked more frequently, as one of the stalls had missing toilet paper. But considering that its shared bathrooms, I can understand this happens and was not a big problem.

Dirty, no actual backpackers staying there, people were living there with their families. Felt like a motel. The rooms were tiny. No lift

Super convenient location, near the Central shopping mall, the marina and Cairns railway station. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Rooms were decent and comfortable.

Cleanliness was the biggest issue: shared bathrooms and the kitchen were never really clean. I understand a lot of people are using them but it wasn’t always pleasant.

Excellent location. Good value for money. Very helpful staff.

No lifts. Was very difficult for aged parents to walk up and down the stairs.
