- Shuttle to main town, pool was OK , when it wasn't raining??
- Is nice, the toilet are clean enough, they have shuttle bus for free to get you closer the city. The fact that is not in the middle of the city is a plus because is more quiet.
- The staff were great, all were backpackers themselves, and friendly and helpful. The rooms were fine, good air con systems and a bathroom in the room and lockers. The kitchen/communal living space is all open plan and open to the outside which is good for air circulation. The pool area is nice, lots of space to sit and relax on the picnic tables, next to the pool, in a hammock, on the grass...

- Pay for internet ? This is 2015 ?? Breakfast is toast and coffee ? Why even bother to say its included? You can get that in the free kitchen ? Minimal plugs to recharge things ?
- The kitchen could be more clean, but is fine overall.
- I've stayed in hundreds of hostels all over the world and never had my own 'kitchen bag' which had 1 plate, 1 dish, 1 knife/fork/spoon, 1 mug, 1 plastic cup, and 1 tea towel. I can kind of see what they're trying to do... like you wash up after yourself immediately and then keep your stuff together. But it's easy to get confused or misplace something and someone else take it etc. and then they charge you? Idk, just seemed a bit useless to me and annoying. It's kinda far from Cairns downtown - they have shuttle mini bus thing that does frequent runs there and back which is good, but it looked like the thing was falling apart, and then it literally did stop working after I was there two days so couldn't use it anyway. Local buses will take you into downtown but it's a 5 minute walk away and they're not super reliable.

Really good stay, satisfied and happy. The evening games like bingo, beer pong and karaoke were super fun. I think that's a very good idea to keep everyone engaged. The rooms are normal comfy and enough space + lockers (bring a padlock or buy one at the front desk), there is airco and clean sheets + pillow. Showers and toilets are good enough, warm and cold water ofcourse ??Pool area + volleyball and even a cute place to chill at + hammocks, a bar, smoking area, kitchen to cook, place to eat, big television for some games and watch movies is all there. Even board games!Very very friendly staff! I want to especially thank Slawek for the great service and quick help. Eleonora for the safe quick and nice shuttle bus drives (with good music). And Lordina for always smiling being a very good staff member and helping without flaws (in my opinion).Everybody who needs a place to stay in Cairns should really visit Summer House!
I liked the staff who were really helpful and friendly. The vibe is nice
It’s outside the cbd so I counted on the shuttle but the van was broken down
Love the cleanliness and the space. It has different activities to do socially. The staff were great and helpful.
The outdoor place around the pool area and the volleyball court was a bit bushy. Needed a trim
On the plus side, they offer a shuttle bus to the city center that runs every half hour, which is pretty handy. The common areas have a good vibe with lots of people socializing. The staff at the travel desk are very helpful, and booking tours through them is noticeably cheaper than outside. It’s also less than a kilometer to the esplanade, so you can easily run there and enjoy a route along the beachfront.
This hostel is located about two kilometers from the CBD. The soundproofing is quite poor—you can easily hear people talking loudly or playing music in their rooms at night. It’s also a busy place: the kitchen and common areas are often crowded, and the washing machines are almost always in use. Grocery shopping isn’t very convenient either, as there aren’t many supermarkets nearby.
Excellent hostel, very sociable, nice pool, excellent air conditioning in private room, room very clean and comfortable. Good walk in fridges to keep food cold. Fantastic to have free shuttle bus on 30 minute rotation taking you down and back to central town.
Kitchen was quite small relative to overall size of hostel so very busy during main cooking times and hence was often not very clean. First shuttle bus seemed quite late departing at 0810 each morning given meeting time for our diving boat was 0830 from Marina so a bit stressful to make sure there was a space on the bus for 4 of us.Because the hostel runs a parallel pub on site, they are very strict about no drinking of any other alcohol on site other than that purchased in their pub.
The half-hourly free shuttle to/from downtown
Stayed in the ensuite. It was clean. I didn't use the kitchen or any of the other facilities so can't comment on that. Staff were courteous.Close to the esplanade.
No ventilation in bathroom. Water pools on bathroom floor from the open shower. Insisting guests leave air con on at all times and threaten fines if windows opened. Not everyone can sleep with aircon on.
Outdoor pool with hammock and bar was cheap. Good value
Overcrowded, the bathroom wasn’t clean, too much noise during the night. Kitchen too small for the amount of people …
Has a nice pool and showers were clean
No curtainsIts not possible to have a good sleep in this hostel. There are many people who stays long term, their work shift and timing is usually off. So they come in the room at very late, make a lot of noise. Also when someone checks out, you have to bring all your beddings to reception, that means you will wake everyone up that morning
The staff are very friendly and helpful, the location is really good just less than 10 minutes until the Cairns Airport, close to a bus stop with a bunch of bus lines to the city and other suburbs of Cairns. The free shuttle to the city is very convenient, running every 30 minutes during almost all the day.The structure is really good, with a pool, ping pong table, living room, tables for having dinner and lunch with other hostel mates. Also there is a laundry, but I didn't use it, once I just stayed for 5 days. The beds are comfortable, it surprised me because usually in the other hostels the mattresses are very thin. Also, the locker is big, which gives us a lot of room to store our things, I could empty my luggage and put all my stuff there. The cold room and the freezer to store the food is big.The shower had hot water and was easy to manage the quantity and water temperature.
The kitchen is the only place that I didn't like in the hostel. Very messy and busy all the time. Hard to find a space to cook and use the stove. Also, the toilet sinks were very dirty with a lot of hair, but it's more a bad habit from the other disrespectful guests.
Friendly staff, nice pool and bar area.
Could be noisy but it’s a hostel
The staff at reception who checked me in and out (Javi and Carmen)were super nice and helpful! There is lots of fun activities everyday to get involved in both in the hostel and out in the botanical gardens and elsewhere! Good place to meet people and make friends! Good bar aswell! They have a regular bus that gets you in and out of the city to the hostel which is great! ?
Nothing, my stay there was super nice and chill
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 10/10I had the best time staying at Summer House Cairns! I was in the 8-bed female dorm and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The room was clean and comfy and there are lockers for your personal stuff. There was always something going on making it super easy to meet new people and really enjoy the Cairns vibe. The free shuttle to town was super convenient, and the overall atmosphere was social, laid-back, and super welcoming.Huge shoutout to Carmen and Alisha for making the stay extra special! They were always helpful and friendly, helping me out with finding my way around the place and helping me with extending my stay.If you’re heading to Cairns and want a fun, social, and well-run hostel, Summer House is the place. I’d go back in a heartbeat!
The location was good and you can walk to it from the airport. They offer shuttle buses down to the main area twice per hour which is good. Nice hot chocolate from the machine for $3 too. Showers were decent and good size of bathroom. The co-living area is nice too, with tv, couches, pool/ping pong, swimming pool and areas to chill.
All the things I liked were negated by the bad experience. I found the staff to be slow and not very helpful or friendly. The hostel has a lot of long term residents and seemed a bit cliquey. I think for younger backpackers it might be better but not ideal for older digital nomads. My room was dark and pretty messy and in general I didn't really enjoy the vibe of the place.
Great atmosphere and really good activities. I booked a couple of tours at the travel agency at the reception and Carmen was really helpful in the reception for everything I needed during my stay.
The kitchen could be a little bit cleaner.
Expensive, loud, random stuff happening in the hallways at all times of night. Wasn’t super clean. Value for money wasn’t there
I had a very smooth arrival in Cairns. The reception is 24/7 open so arriving at night from the airport was no issue at all. The hostel has a lot of facilities such a swimming pool, beach volley, a bar so is a great place to socialize, but also has quiet corners and quiet times in the evenings are respected. There is a shuttle of the hostel available every 30mins, to take you into the center of Cairns. There is a travel agency inside of the hostel where you can book tours. Hostel is tidy and gets cleaned very regularly throughout the whole day.
Nothing, everything was great :)
