The Vulcan Hotel is an Art Deco style hotel located in the Ultimo district of Sydney. It is within walking distance of the Chinatown and Glebe districts. The hotel came with breakfast which included yogurt, oatmeal, breads, fruit, (typical "continental" breakfast). The room was a bit on the smaller side (not a big deal) with a microwave, fridge and electric kettle.Easiest way to the sightseeing / shopping areas (George St, Queen Victoria Building, Circular Quay, etc) is to walk to Haymarket transit stop; or walk to Chinatown stop and visit Paddy's Market, a shopping and dining experience. There is a shopping mall about 5-10 minutes away to the southwest in the Glebe area and shopping / restaurants to the north towards Darling Harbour. Friends in Tassie told us you can't go wrong eating in a shopping mall as there are various options and the food is good. They were right.
The Vulcan Hotel is a little far away from the tourist happening areas. Count on at least a 15-minute walk to the tram stops. Plan to do a lot of walking if you stay here.
Nice staff and owners. Overall clean rooms and hotel. The proprietors were very nice and comforting when we met.The staff was very pleasant and helpful when I asked about sites to visit.
1) Bath area was very small and one kept bumping into the bath area glass partitions. Further, with no hand shower in the bath made it difficult to have a bath comfortably.2) Old wooden window frames in rooms made it look like a bit too old a property. Wish they would change it to more modern style. No direct sunlight or ventilation.3) High room rent for the facility made it less appealing.4) They did not replace the handwash soap when they cleaned the room.
I have now stayed at the Vulcan 3 times and cannot fault it. It delivers value for money, great customer service and is in the perfect location for me (near Central Station) when I visit Sydney. It's not flash, but it's clean and comfortable and meets all my needs when I need to attend something in Sydney.
Good Location, staff members are very friendly and helpful,
Smells bad if you open windows
The location is pretty good. It's central enough to get to the main transport hubs quickly (about 5-10 min walk to Central), but far away from all the traffic and noise. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We arrived quite early (around 10.30 am), and the staff let us check in around 11.30 am, which was very nice of them. We were exhausted from the early flight, so an early check-in was very much appreciated.
The bed was a bit smaller than what we expected, and also it wasn't particularly comfortable. There are also not that many power outlets in the room. I'm used to having at least a couple of power outlets next to the bed, but in our room there weren't any. Finally, the rubbish bins in the room are a bit too small. If you're staying for a couple of nights, it won't be an issue. However, we stayed for 5 nights, and they filled up very quickly.
It was central to UTS and quiet in the room
I always prefer a ceiling fan rather than an air conditioner if possible.
Good Location and Cozy Place. Close to Chinatown and central station. Staffs are very nice and friendly.
The staff were so friendly and helpful and I really appreciated their service. The room was very clean and comfortable:)I would definitely recomeend and/or return if needed to stay in the same area.
Clean and in a great location
The bed was very uncomfortable, the air con rattled and as I was on the ground floor could not leave the window open
The staff was very generous, particularly, Cheska was super friendly, she taught us the spots at Sydney to watch fireworks and enjoy the city. We were also able to leave our baggage for the day. The breakfast yogurt was delicious.
great location, room clean
breakfast wasn't very good
My stay at the Vulcan was very nice! The staff was pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was tasty. The nightly HH was a nice touch for a wary traveler who didn’t want o venture far the first day. :)
A little sleepy atmosphere if someone is looking to make friends as Theres isn’t really a bar at the hotel. But that’s a small bit from an extrovert. The hotel was fantastic!
The free breakfast was quite good and they gladly accommodated my GF dietary needs. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The building itself is a beautiful old heritage piece, quite well restored.Shower pressure was good.
The bed was very uncomfortable, the pillows thin, and the room quite small.
I like the location, near the city. You just walk and that's it
Our room is hot, even if the heater is off. Our room is in the very back and no view at all through the window
The hotel is a beautiful Victorian style building in a quite neighborhood about 10mn walk from the lively Central Station. The room was cozy and the bed confortable and everything was very clean. The double window also gives good acoustic and thermal insulation.
The room was narrow you can't open a suitcase properly and the closet is too small for 2 people. The bathroom was always too cold because there's no heater in it and it was winter time.Even though breakfast is included you will not find eggs or hot food and you need to pay extra for a proper coffee instant one is available they call it cold breakfast so you will have bread, cheese, yogurt, ham, some fruits and cereals the only hot thing is water for tea bags and instant coffee. Also the room is equipped with a smoke detector that emits a small sound and light every few seconds even though it is small but it might disturb when trying to get asleep.
I booked the Vulcan for a work trip and choose to extend it for the weekend. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the staff are lovely and were very helpful with all my requests.
