Pros +
- Location, safe place, contental breakfast.
- Excellent location! Near everything in the port, including the cruise ships. The price was affordable. Storage for suitcases for early arrivals. Free breakfast & wifi. Very friendly, helpful staff. There is a bar & restaurant downstairs.
- Great location. Fabulous friendly and kind staff - they were observant and acted before being asked. The whole team worked well together even when it was seriously hit and seriously busy. Great atmosphere inbthe pub and food is fun and enjoyable. Breakfast fresh and generous.
Cons -
- No television, no air-conditioning but didn't necessarily need it that day.
- The building is in serious need of maintenance & updating! No AC (use ceiling fan & desk fan). Bathrooms are shared. Night noise from sports club across street & sometimes loud music from near by restaurants. The hotel is hard to find.
- Room and lounge is hot and stuffy when the weather is humid, despite the fan. It would be great to create a cross / through breeze by propping ooen doors. Bed was reasonably hard and a bit lumpy. Noise on street - bins and reversing beeps - after pub closed. Bring ear plugs!

Cozy, clean and prime location
This hotel needs to add a/c. At least portable. The room was hotter than the common areaThe ceiling fan helps a bit but it was ridiculously hot around 10 am. So sorry to say but it was unbearable.
Location
Very steep stairs to get to roomNo air conditioningNo tea and coffee in room
Location was close to where we needed to be
Shared bathrooms and people slamming doors. The noise was loud from the pub understandable but we were told music would be off ftom 11.30pm and it was. Just take ear plugs if you want an early night.
Really enjoyed the history of the place and the vintage decor. Really close to main attractions (Circular Quay, Sydney Opera House, etc.). Staff was excellent in helping us with a couple issues.
I would definitely recommend giving guests two keys from the get go. The reason why is a family member was in our room and just wanted to relax (she's a bit paranoid about a few things and wanted to hang on to the key). I said that's fine I'm going to explore the city a bit and come back and just knock on our door). One of our international phone plans wasn't working so I had to take the phone for GPS. Anyways, when I got back I totally forgot there's an outer door right before the rooms that requires a key so I was stuck (I had to get staff). Maybe remove the lock on the door right before you get to the rooms.. Also, both my mom thought she was locked inside the shower room. Turns out, you have to really grip and twist the door knob VERY HARD (had to get staff). We felt like idiots. Maybe tape a note on doors that are hard to open or WD40 or something. Still we loved our stay there.
Fantastic stay, staff were awesome. Beautiful breakfast and facilities were extremely clean. Only suggestion remove dressing gowns from listing, and potentially consider an additional portable fan in rooms. Awesome stay, will definitely be back!
All awesome!
Fabulous location. Amazing staff especially Mark, Ellie & the lovely lassie in the bar (sorry I didn’t get your name.) Would definitely stay again.
No air con (it was very hot) but understandable as it is a heritage building.
Location, layout design decor of pub, staff were great and food was delish! Loved the artwork and quirky details like cockatoo lamp. Felt the history of the place.
No aircon in shared areas or in bed rooms. We slept terrible due to high temperature and i developed a heat rash over 2 days of sweaty discomfort which sucks.
I loved the old pub style. I was so cool to stay somewhere so old but in such good condition. The breakfast was simple but good and the staff were friendly and helpful
Location, atmosphere, friendly staff, value for money
The pizza wasn’t as good as I hoped!
Disappointing
70 years carry bags up 35 stairs
The food and staff at the bar directly below your room was super nice and professional. Very helpful in every aspect. Also, the location was unbeatable.
nothing, maybe it’s amenities were a little old but still clean and perfectly functional
Excellent location for a Sydney tourist or businessman - close to CBD and circular quay for ferries and public transport, walkable to major sites, the rocks is one of the nicest night areas in Sydney and has very peaceful sections. For price, extremely reasonable, suspect it’s cheaper due to shared bathrooms however this is due to the heritage design and half of the available bathrooms are a single shower and toilet combo that is fully lockable and basically a private bathroom. Other patrons quiet and polite, excellent common area that is heritage design and very decadent, free port at night and breakfast that was delicious, rooms adequate but small. Pub below was loud til midnight as you would expect, but the sitting room was open til midnight and it was no hardship to stay up playing chess and drinking port. Most other guests seemed older and were polite and nice to us considering we were a young couple
Excellent location, amazing and superfriendly staff who made us feel like guests at a friend's place. We also loved the pizza and beer at the pub. Although the bathrooms were located far from the room and the room was small, the shared dining room and kitchen were lovely and very useful.
The facilities and furniture in the room were a little old and hard to use during a long time stay.
Location great, right in the middle of The Rocks, and close to where we needed to be for our cruise ship departure. Easy walk to the bridge and Opera House, restaurants aplenty, although we ended up eating dinner in-house. The whole area is lovely. Basic breakfast but pretty much what I usually have anyway. Shared bathrooms which were very clean and not a problem. Smallish room but it is over 110 years old. Loved the place. Close to the railway line which takes you to the airport. I was surprised at how quiet noise wise the neighbourhood actually was, considering the location. Would definitely stay there again.
Not much, except there is no lift, and the stairs are windy, which is not good for older folk like me. However, the staff carried our bags up and down for us, which was most helpful. Also, we weren't aware that they didn't OPEN until 10 or 11am, forgotten which, so we were lugging our cases around the hilly neighbourhood until then, after an early arriving flight. I was aware we couldn't check in early, but not that nothing would be open until check-in time. Apart from that small detail... Also it would be handy to know where the street elevators are (GREAT things!!!) so we could have gotten around easier with luggage. Probably more a local problem than the accommodations.....They were so hidden...but handy when we found them!
The location was excellent. Our room and shared bathrooms were spotless and there were more bathrooms than we expected amongst the 8 rooms so there was never a problem having a shower etc. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. We had to leave early on two mornings and they left breakfast out for us especially.
On first entering the hotel it looks a little grotty but we soon realised that this was part of its charm. The music on Saturday evenings goes on until midnight but we were well prepared with ear plugs.
The location was fantastic and to stay in one of Australia’s oldest buildings was exactly the experience for after.
The hotel has a beautiful charm to it. The staff were super helpful and kind. We also enjoyed the pub and the food was great.
The staff were friendly, kind and helpful. They offered to look after our bags, provided a 10% discount on food /drinks. Breakfast was included also. Fantastic!
