    Pros +

    • The openness of the space, gorgeous decor and aesthetic.
    • Quirkiness. Breakfast menu. Bed
    • Lovely, clean, good facilities. Friendly & very helpful staff

    Cons -

    • You need to install a basic kitchenette, that's the only thing missing.
    • Service. Asked to leave the pool 20mins before a 4pm private function - no prior notice even when we asked if we could stay late. Bath right where the door opens. Air con time limited. No room service. No in room bathroom amenities. Not worthy of a 5 star rating nor the price unfortunately.
    • Cost for the one night- as it was Valentine’s Day, the rates were double what it would be normally so disappointing in this regard

Fabulous room Very quirky hotel Looks nothing from outside

    Slow service at breakfast

Great location down town and wonderful in room espresso.

The windows allow a significant amount of street noise.

    6AndrewPosted on: 2-17-2026

Great vibe about the place and a fantastic central location.

The room was not sound proofed. Constant sound of footsteps / high heeled shoes on the hard floors from the neighbouring room and higher floors.

    10DanielPosted on: 2-16-2026

The bed was absolutely amazing. The hotel was in a great location, a short walk from the central station and plenty of good spots to eat around.

We always stay here when in Sydney - funky, great facilities, best beds and located near amazing restaurants. Spice Alley is a few steps from the door and such a great place to use as a base for exploring Sydney.

    Everything

Straight forward check in - took c/card details. Did not realise they took deposit and were slow to refund. Emailled back and forward after we left, still took 24-36 hours to get money back. Which meant daghter had no funds on next destination.

As above. If reception had room service menu it would have allowed us to see if there was suitable food in hotel. As it was we had to go to room, decide, then come back down again.

Decor, building and cleaning and hospitality staff were great.

Reception staff and only having one parking key to share with other patrons

    Bad

This hotel has really fallen off in recent years, since becoming part of ODE. Staff attentiveness, we had drinks forgotten about, and little things like coffees arriving in room in takeaway cups.

The location for us was great. Restaurants at the doorstep, public transport just a short walk and a metro supermarket in walking distance.Staff were all friendly, room was amazing, and the 24hr rooftop pool became a favourite zone for a bit of downtime.Definately check out The Old Clare if planning a trip to Sydney.

We had the loft room, was great to have the little extra space when traveling with the teen.

Not loving the trend of bathrooms with glass open to the bedroom, but otherwise fab.

    7DanielPosted on: 2-1-2026

    bed was comfy

The hot water in the shoer took an age to kick in each time, wsting a lot of water. The pool party belting music wasn't expected and to pay and not be able to use the pool was dissappointing the parking situation is painful. More due to the fact the door to the elevators on 5B was broken so we had to use the fire escape. Happended the next night too. Whilst it is not the responsibility of the hotel it is not lost on me that we pay $55 a night and that the hotel profits in some manner. All in in all these little things add up to not wanting to come back

Beautiful old building that has been refurbished to retain its charm but with a fresh look.

    Nothing!

    6AlexandraPosted on: 1-27-2026

The area was convenient for getting to places. The iron was quite good and functional!

There was no attention from hotel staff and receptionists seem to be nowhere to be found most of the time, and when they did, they seemed a bit clueless. Our room was on this extremely busy road so it was quite an ugly view and was quite loud - something you couldn't see from the photos online. The hotel was quite tired. The hairdryer was extremely old and small and was very hard to dry long hair with. The entire hotel was very tired and in need of a renovation.

    3NataliePosted on: 1-26-2026

The property was gorgeous. A beautiful rustic feel and I loved how the incorporated the history of the building within the styling of the hotel. Very comfortable beds and clean rooms that are situated in the middle of the city and right next to spice alley.

Unfortunately the staff and overall guest experience was very poor and I’m not one to leave a bad review. The hotel phone and front desk is poorly monitored and the pool had events on so we were not able to use the pool at all. We weren’t informed of this until we checked in. Check out was also difficult as the staff member didn’t provide us the key to get to our car so we did a lot of unnecessary back and forth. We were offered a free room upgrade for the inconvenience which was a lovely gesture but the mixture of the experience was an overall disappointment. Maybe just an off day I hope?

Very comfortable. Great location. Modern feel.

Parking was a nightmare. Wrong instructions, no idea where to park and where not to park. Token to and from reception not good.Won’t stay again if we drive.

    7SamanthaPosted on: 1-22-2026

Great location, very central and well connected, and surrounded by places to shop and eat. Beds and room were large, clean and comfortable. Decent value for money given the deal we got for the room.

Please be aware even rooms with two separate beds had frosted glass toilet and shower. We couldn’t access the rooftop most nights (even once when it said it was open, the lights were off and no staff were around). I would say more 3 star hotel in terms of service and amenities.

    6KatePosted on: 1-19-2026

The room was a great size and the beds were really comfortable! Location was also great and the team gave some great recommendations on where to eat/drink nearby!

The bathroom area in the room was lovely, but was probably more designed for a couple, rather than friends travelling together. It was pretty see through (just a portion of frosted glass, rather than a curtain or similar), so you didn't really get much privacy.
