About

After a mammoth refurbishment of every room with a total redesign of the hotel concept inspired by interior design heros, Chada, The Clarence Hotel has opened December 2024, as the most modern and chic boutique hotel in Sydney. It's left it's past behind, and has created a colorful and cozy concept that will have you extending your stay and feeling like home. The local neighborhood is a flourish for foodies, and so central that it's a walk to all Sydney has to offer from business to attractions. Each room features a table, hanging space, and laptop size in-room safes. There is a refrigerator, mini-bar, tea/coffee making facilities, and a luxe private bathroom with shower. Reception is 24 hours and we have luggage storage facilities.

    Pros +

    • Conveniently located within a 7 minute walk of Wynyard railway station the Clarence hotel is in a good place for tourists staying in Sydney - a few blocks down the road is a laundry and close by there are several restaurants and cafes. Circular Quay is about a 15 minute walk away as are many other useful amenities. The hotel has recently been modernised, and although it is an old building the rooms inside are fresh and new. However they are very small! Our room (604 ) was no more than 9 feet wide with a small window partly obscured by the end of the double bed. The bathroom was also tiny - indeed so tiny that it was impossible to sit straight on the toilet! The room was well fitted out with a 5-foot comfortable double bed, good lighting, a flat screen TV, a small fridge, an ironing board and iron, plenty of plug sockets, tea and coffee facilities, a small table and seating area, but only a few hooks to hang your clothes on and no wardrobe. There was a bit of space under the bed – but nowhere to put your suitcases at all. The free Wi-Fi was good and relatively quick, and the bathroom shower was efficient and actually quite spacious. We paid over £100 a night for our room which did not include breakfast (the hotel has no restaurant). I could not really recommend the Clarence hotel because we spent four nights here and felt that our bedroom was almost like a prison cell without a window. There is 24-hour reception and we were always warmly greeted in a friendly way but the rooms are simply too small.
    • Nothing really, after the disappointment with the room. Will never stay in this hotel and will freely speak about my experience to people I know not to stay there either
    • Easy to check in and find. Brand new bathroom and beds. Clean and fresh room.

    Cons -

    • We were given a hotel breakfast voucher only to find out that it was not included. 🙁 we were led to believe it was included in the price. A shock. Also the room had a not so nice aroma. But the worst was the air conditioner noise and foul air.

    • My room was a shoe box, no windows, not much room to move about, very disappointing experience. No value for money.

Easy to check in and find. Brand new bathroom and beds. Clean and fresh room.

Bed sheets didn’t fit properly. The bare matress was exposed at the end. No conditioner in the bathroom left.

    Good

The bath towel was not clean. The accommodation didn't provide parking, nor did it offer any discounts. We ended up paying AUD 285 for parking for two nights, which was a terrible experience.

Friendly staff & great central location for exploring Sydney CBD. Everything within walking distance! The room and facilities were very tidy and modern. Nice coffee machine in the room too, which was a bonus.

I did find it a bit noisey on the Saturday night with the Pub nearby. Also I noticed the beds were not made properly when my room was "refreshed."

I liked checking out and moving to another hotel

Yes the room was a single bed , but that is all that could fit into the shoebox size room .

Location, the staff and breakfast next door was good

The room was VERY small especially with luggage and bags and nowhere to put them.

All the bedding and furnitures were almost new and very clean and tidy,Great location, heart of Sydney CBD, very close to everything.

Great location and very friendly helpful staff. Also nice to have a coffee machine in the room.

Room was quite small but sufficient for a short stay.

    10CherylPosted on: 1-5-2026

The room was not overly big but it had all the comforts we needed - the bed was super comfy and the shower was awesome. We stayed on Level 5 and there was no noise so we were able to sleep exceptionally well. The location was perfect as it was easy walking to everything we needed to see and do in the CBD. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

The positioning of the TV in relation to the bed made it difficult to watch comfortably but this would not deter us from staying again.

The staff were lovely and could not have been more helpful. The bathroom was a good size although lacked space for washbags/toiletries. The breakfast is provided at an adjoining cafe and is not the usual hotel buffet but limited menu. However, they had toast and eggs, which was all I needed so I was happy.

The room was dusty, especially at higher level, for example the statement light fitting. The carpet was ragged but my room was a wheelchair room so that might account for it. The curtains are not blackout. When I arrived I had been allocated a top floor room lit by a rooflight with an inadequate blind. (I was moved to a larger room downstairs, which I was grateful for.) The bed was not comfortable and the pillows were hard. Outside the building looks poorly maintained with vegetation growing out of the walls and what looks like a boarded up shop front.

Convenient location, with friendly staff who were able to assist when needed. Room had everything I needed for a short stay.

    Ckean comfortable

Could use more hooks, places to hang things. Coffee in lobby would be a great addition.

Stunning bedroom, clean and tidy hotel. Very quiet

    Location

No ice, noisy street at night

    9MoniPosted on: 10-31-2025

It was a very nice, clean, refurbished boutique hotel. Very quiet, didn't hear any other guests at all and the room was even bigger than I originally anticipated. For 2 people, it was amazing and very worth the deal we got by booking in advance.

This is not so much on the property at all, but for me as a traveler I like to be a bit closer to the action. Don't get me wrong, The Clarence is still pretty close, but will requiring some walking around to get to the most convenient Train station.
