    Pros +

    • Location, access to public transport, value for money
    • The price was amazing. Such a clean facility. Great location! Pool was great and rooftop sun bathing areas. Communal kitchen was nice. Thanks so much!!
    • great location, handy to Central Station and Light Rail outside the door. Great view over city from our room.

    Cons -

    • No hand towel or face clothes in en-suite
    • Pool quite small and not deep. No TV in facility. Another person snoring in room (but it was shared and you get that)
    • Lifts were appalling, we were on 8th floor, so wait was awful. Then on our first night there we got stuck twice in one of the lifts - a horrid experience. Lift was out of action earlier in the day and I don’t think it was repaired sufficiently to function properly. Not impressed with Reception staff who asked us for our passport. We are locals and have never been asked for our passport in the 50 years we have been staying in YHa’s throughout Australia. Staying in an ensuite room in Central YHA is unfortunately no longer a cheap option and in future we might consider staying in other cheaper hotel accommodation. We did all the online check in before we got there but we still spent ages at reception having photo taken, receptionist couldn’t find our email address - we have been using same email for 20 yrs! One of the cups in our room had chip in it - this is itself is a health issue. Only 1 coffee stick supplied for the two of us. Standards have definitely dropped since we first started staying at this YHA. Huge cobwebs on inside of windows in our room, looked like the haunted house as they had obviously been there for a very long time.

Friendly and helpful staff, Rachel on Reception, was lovely and sorted out a bottom bunk issue on arrival.Central location and a cafe next door. I would recommend a stay at YHA Sydney Central when visiting.

Great location, good kitchen, good bed.

Very expensive, nearly double the price of the other the accommodation I have stayed at recently. No bench to put your luggage on. Noisy neighbours. No face washers a must for liquid soap.

    10MareikePosted on: 2-15-2026

Very clean property. Bed is comfortable, has curtains, a light and an outlet. Big lookers and rooms have space. Temperature was good.

Too expensive. 60 euro for a hostel bed is crazy. However it was in line with other prices that weekend.

The location is very convenient to central station. The rooms and facilities were all very clean and modern, and the staff were lovely and very helpful. I would stay here again.

Location is very central and the haymarket station is just right in front of the entrance of hotel. It is also only 100m away from the Murray bus to Canberra.

    The breakfast is too basic

    10SamanthaPosted on: 2-14-2026

The breakfast was ok . Pool was good

The breakfast could be better more choices with berries also and better orange juice

This was my first time staying in a hostel and I was only there for one night but I had a good experience. The location was so convenient with a tram on your doorstep and the train station a stones throw away. I started in a 4 person mixed dorm on the top bunk and I liked the charging sockets and bed light available, as well as the clean neat bedding. I slept very well.

The excellent customer service from staff excellent facility conditions

That i only stayed the one night while I was in Sydney

Cupboards in the rooms and the number of persons big screen and tables and kitchen.

I had the top bunk my feet at that time were aching .

Private room was perfect, it was hotel-like quality but with all the hostel facilities that make a stay more practical (kitchen, washing machine…)

    all was good!

    10CristinaPosted on: 2-12-2026

Location is great! Tram station for Circular Quai right in front of the hotel, Central station near by. Connected with everything you need to go. Haymarket with food court at 500m.Clean bathrooms, nice accomodation for traveling on budget,

    Everything as expected, no complaint.

    8CharlenePosted on: 2-12-2026

It is right in front of the central station and the L rail, so convenient location. Staff were very nice and after checkout we could leave our luggage in the locker room until our flight time. We could also use the common shower to freshen up before going to the airport.

It was really noisy, especially early in the morning when all the students were getting ready, going in and out of rooms and common bathrooms. The noise of doors closing continuously, woke us really early.

    9AlisonPosted on: 2-11-2026

It was clean and quiet. I arrived late and left early so I didn’t do much more than brush my teeth and crawl into bed. The beds are not made, so with the light of my torch I tried to spread out my bottom sheet up on the top bunk. The beds are quite comfortable and easy enough to get up to.

They didn’t have any towels left when I arrived. Seriously guys get your act together.

Cleanliness of room and bedsFacilities - kitchen facility for cooking and place to eatLocation to central station as we just walked to get on the train to the airport, also close proximity to stores and eateries.

There was no towel for me to bath with that evening on Sunday. Reason given was there were no more towels. I feel since you know how many people have checked in, you would have the towels in their rooms. that was the only disappointment.

    8GioelliPosted on: 2-9-2026

    Pretty much everything

I didn’t like that the entire hostel worked only with key cards. I lost mine by accident and couldn’t even use the elevator or the stairs to ask for a new one. I also think this system could be dangerous in case of emergencies, since without the physical card you can’t access any area.
