Pros +
- really central location. seconds away from the metro.the room was large and the bed was comfortable and clean.
- Great central location. I needed to work the next day in Surry Hills, so I couldn't get a better spot. The room itself had been renovated, so it's a lot more up-market than I was expecting from pub accommodation.
- The staff were exceptional, informative. I left my wallet at the bar and they immediately ran it up to my room with everything in it. Lovely humans
Cons -
- the bathroom shower floor had cracked and had come away, revealing dirt and looked unpleasant. The taps were loose and wobbled when used.
- Because the pub downstairs is open to 4am, and I was on Level 1, I would recommend ear plugs or similar if you are staying there because there was a definitely a bass / drums combo coming through the floor in the wee small hours.
- Drainage for shower. I just felt bad I had to use the towels to soak up the overflow and didn't want to create more work for staff

Location very close to Central Station. Good recent renovation
One room ( which I declined) had no window. Rumble from nearby trams ( though I slept through it).
Absolutely nothing.
Worst experience ever!!! Don't waste your money and save a big headache. The place IS NOT a hotel it is a PUB with some rooms on top. When we arrived, the place was CLOSED and when we managed to talk to one of the personnel from the PUB, he left us outside, in the street! With a terrible attitude told us "You're not allowed to enter, the hotel is closed. Come back later when we open" and closed the door leaving us literally in the street with our luggage. We called Booking.com to cancel the reservation due to all the above, they contacted the "hotel" (PUB) and they refuse to assist in anything, not even allowed us to leave the luggage in the front desk and come back later. Of course, they don't have a front desk because is a PUB, not a hotel. At the end, had to look for another place to stay and accepted that we just lost around $700. To me, it felt like being scammed!
Great location, there is a lift ?lovely lady helped us with everything and allowed us to store our luggage before and our stay/check in/ check out times. Very helpful and friendly. Would recommend this accommodation to anyone looking to stay near Central Station.
Location. Affordable.
No view.
Great location transferring from airport by train & station the next day. Very happy with room and thankyou for tea, coffee toiletries & bottled water. Will definitely stay with you again. Thankyou
The Royal Exhibition Hotel has been renovated to provide modern comfort but the furnishings and finishes hark back to the days of old. Lovely large wooden heritage cabinetry provides plenty of space for your belongings. Perfect location for easy walking access to a large part of central Sydney.
The double glazing in our room was compromised by one missing interior panel on one window. Doesn't sound like much but the effect is to reduce the noise isolation by 75 to 90 percent if my rules of thumb from many years in audio still hold. It's a noisy area. Central railway a stones throw away. Pub across the road is open 24 hours. The Eastern Suburbs light rail curves around the corner so close to the hotel you could almost touch it. Even after the tram stops for the wee hours the pedestrian crossings continue to beep almost continuously all night. Maybe check re soundproofing if you are sensitive.
Great location adjacent to Central Station and public transport, in particular the light rail (tram). Very helpful and accommodating staff. Keypad entry to hotel and room worked very well with no key required. Everything worked in the room. Comfortable. Meal available on-site in the Bistro
Noise from other venues and the tram maybe an issue for some but ear plugs were provided. Unfortunately channel 2 (ABC) didn't' work well on our TV in room 5.
Comfy and clean beds, great location, very kind and fast working staff, easy access for travel and places to eat, working aircon and great curtains that block all lights.
I did notice a few small roaches, the lamps in my room didn't work and chairs in the room are very old and the leather is peeling off them. Very minor things though.
Very convenient location, good value for a comfortable, well kept bedroom right next to Central Station.
Good location for those using train. Handy to have reasonably priced pub food at same hotel. would definitely stay again.
Room next to light rail turning point and also beside timed pedestrian crossing so was noisy. If I had realised would have used ear plugs
Access to the hotel was easy from the Central Train station. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was hot. The room did not smell of smoke, which was my biggest fear when I saw the hotel was above a betting bar.
The windows to the outside world were filthy (and permanently shut). The sink was cracked and the steel parts of it were rusty. There are train tracks immediately outside the room and they are busy most of the day and night so noise is an issue. It was also difficult to find out where to check in.
The position was great, next to Central Station and the light rail. The price was excellent The restaurant in the hotel had affordable. Pub style meals. The rooms were spacious Daily bottles of waterGenerous tea, coffee offerings.
It was a little noisy but tolerable. The shower was just warm.
Spacious and stylish. Excellent location.
No fan. No sustainable toiletries.
It was handy to what I needed.
The floodlight outside my room meant that I could very nearly read without a light at midnight. It was noisy until aboiut midnight.
Location from Central Station and Surry Hills.
Attitude of staff. No real reception very blasé. The room was situated on Devonshire Street right on the Sydney light rail and was very, very noisy and actually vibrated up until 2 am. Plus there is a strong lighting system outside to highlight the features of the hotel which was also keeping the room very light. I knew of the light rail system and requested a room away from Devonshire Street which was totally ignored on booking in. Windows not really 'double glazed'.
Clean and silent, close to the public transport.
I've booked with you guys a bunch of times. Being a roadie I need a convenient place to stay between gigs and you guys are always fantastic. Comfortable and clean, great location and great prices. I'd stay with you guys rather than an overpriced hotel any day! Thank you for everything!
