    • Great location, cold beer downstairs, great fish n chips. Don't miss Bourke St bakery at the end of the block!
    • Nice quiet room
    • They kindly let us store our big luggages for a few days. A BIG THANK YOU!

    Cons -

    • Construction on the road in front. Temporary, daytime only, when finished the rail will run by the hotel. An excellent upgrade to look forward to.
    • Grubby rooms with very ordinary staff.
    • The rooms and bathroom facilities need a little bit of attention but this is a minor complaint, sort of adds to the rustic, lived in feel of the place.

Price location and the history of the hotel price was fair for the standard.

The Shakies is in a great part of town and the pub itself is excellent. Great food, great vibe and friendly, helpful staff.

The rooms and bathroom facilities need a little bit of attention but this is a minor complaint, sort of adds to the rustic, lived in feel of the place.

Good value. Dinner was convenient and tasty. All the staff was very nice and helpful.

Shared bathrooms while clean could use some serious maintenance.

    4KanePosted on: 11-6-2024

    Location

Everything is broken in the pub - toilet seats, windows jammed, TV doesn't work, power switches, bed squeaks when you roll over etc

the bed was comfymanager is lovely and helped with our bags

night staff were rude when I asked for water at the barthe pillow had what can only be described as mould.all around dark and dank!music down stairs was too loud for me to sleep any time before 1am

Amazing location only around 800m away from central station and close to the stadium I was attending. Check in at 1pm which is so convenient, friendly and fast staff check in was so smooth. There’s one bathroom and two shared toilets, the bed is new and comfortable and rooms at airconed.

Can we quite loud for anyone intending to go to bed early as there is a pub on the bottom floor that’s open to 12am and the furniture is quite dated and old (apart from the bed) but that’s all shown in the photos.

I booked a room here at the very last minute after my flight was cancelled, so the fact that they were able to accommodate me at all was great! The price was very reasonable for such short notice and it was about 15-20 minutes away from the airport by taxi. The room I stayed in was very spacious and had a Victorian feel to it, much like the rest of the hotel. I had problems initially paying with my foreign card but the staff were persistently helpful and eventually managed to sort it for me. The venue is mainly a bar/pub with bedrooms above, which is nice since you can relax and get something to drink when you arrive; and although I was worried that it would be noisy with a bar underneath, the bedrooms are actually very quiet.

I have to warn any travellers coming in from overseas that the power sockets in the room are too low to the ground to accommodate a travel adaptor - I had to take mine to the tea/coffee station in the corridor and unplug the kettle to charge my phone. I think the bathrooms could be a lot cleaner, but everything in them worked.

Location closed to Moore Park and rugby. Very convenient

No en suite, but I guess heritage protected. Predicates against many female guests.

Very Deco and rustic. Great bones, great location and bed was comfy. Great food and beer! Staff were friendly, and did I mention my steak was perfect?

Over all clean, maybe the bathroom could do with a better cleaning under the wooden grates. There's a few stairs to room. 2 toilets, one bathroom which is shower over bath. Air-conditioning in room. Kettle outside room. No fridge.

Location was ok - only possible benefit.

Honestly the worst location I’ve ever stayed in. I had the great displeasure of having two nights accommodation when I needed a room in the area.Rooms were dirty and furniture damaged. Bed linen were stained. Bathroom windows are literally non existent. Not even a fly screen or privacy curtain - anyone can see in or out. Bathroom and toilets were foul. Contacted Booking.com as I had serious concerns about my stay and my safety with no response. I literally sat in the room wide awake for two nights because I had no where else to stay and was not comfortable in this accommodation. Staff were unhelpful. No details about anything besides showing me my room. No check out details. Luckily a cleaner was around to take my key as soon as I could leave - otherwise who knows what I would have done. For $180(!!!!!) a night, a hostel would have been leaps and bounds above what is ‘offered’ here.

Perfect location. 5 minute tram ride to entertainment quarter, same for Central Station. Lots of places to get food nearby. The old fashioned rooms were a bit different.

Love the location, the bar itself was bustling and a really cosy vibe - the room decorations were eclectic, very old style, AC in the room, comfy bed

The shared bathroom was dirty, scummy sink, clogged drain in the shower/bath which was also grimy all over - expected more for 180 per night. The room was fine, a bit loud with trains outside but you have to expect that. Never got given a wifi password

    Location. That’s it.

Old, tired, dirty, neglected, musty smell.

Classic old pub with fabulous upstairs accomodation that you rarely see in cities. Lovely team, I hope nothing ever changes. Shower was amazing

    Nothing!!!

    Convenient Good price

Communication, the phone number isn’t connected and I needed to contact them about dropping my bag of early but no one responded to email / facebook message / instagram message. They need a way to be contacted, it’s 2023, not BC
