Pros +
- Beautiful hotel with lots of amenities and helpful staff
- In the heart of a historic district, many restaurants and site within walking distance.
- Great location within the castle walls. More touristy than we thought it would be but makes sense.
Cons -
- It was tough to get a taxi to drive us to the hotel, the road was very, very narrow, and some cars could not make it to the top of the hill where the hotel is located.
- The rooms had mold in them - very visible mold. There is almost no air circulation in the bathroom when you shower so the steam doesnt evaporate for hours. Didnt feel 4-star.
- It is at the Castelo and a little difficult to get to. Taxis only, no Ubers. And only small taxis. And then they can't take you all the way up. It was a little challenging. Our taxi scraped his mirror while taking us as the streets are so narrow! I liked the hotel but I would find someplace more conveniently located the next time.

This place was a wonderful surprise for us: not only that we felt the castle vibe, but we've had the best breakfast ever during our traveling experiences, and the peacocks walking in the yard and posing to my camera was like a dream come true. Unbelievable experience, I recommend this amazing place for everyone, being proud that I've got an opportunity to stay here. Wish to come back for sure!
Beautiful hotel, lovely breakfast and staff. Comfortably appointed.

Amazing grounds beautiful property and wonderful ppl would definitely return
Only negative I could possibly think of is the steep walk up
Comfortable, great breakfasts, lots of character, helpful staff, the courtyard peacocks!
This is a lovely historic building. But if you use a driver not a Taxie to pick up,or deliver be aware that drivers are not allowed in this area. Taxis are. The hotel drove us to where we need to be but…. It is very good choice, just remember this hotel is up hill. Lovely breakfast!
Henry (front office) was wonderful before and during our stay. Included with our stay was a taxi from the Lisbon airport, Happy Hour snacks and beverages, and a full breakfast. It is located in the oldest part of historic Lisbon.
The hotel is charming, with a lovely courtyard and breakfast room. Occasional peacocks too! Staff were always helpful and I loved that the hotel arranged to pick us up at the train station upon our arrival to Lisbon. We liked the location just outside the walls of the castle, some might find other more central locations better.
Nothing, I would return in a heartbeat!
The entire experience was excellent. Breakfast was available until noon. Which is unheard of! The rooms are spacious, quiet and comfortable. There were also many dining and shopping options very close by. If you are looking for a beautiful hotel with tons of charm and a wonderful staff look no further this is your hotel.
The hike up. We found it to be much easier after a glass of wine!
Lovely location with friendly peacocks and staff alike. Comfortable and historic hotel, right next to the Alfama sights
AC could be a bit better, otherwise all good!
Lovely oasis almost inside Castelo Sao Jorge. Wonderful staff and environment with many extras such as a bottle of port in the room, espumante at 6 and endless pastel de Nata. Our room had a view of the castle peacocks. We were well taken care of and very comfortable
Peacocks are loud but window block noise we’ll
Breakfast was good, staff was very helpful, and my room was very nice and comfortable. This building is over 250 years old, so it has incredible characteristics and charm.
The hotel can be a bit noisy - specifically people in other rooms moving chairs around on the wood floors. The hotel is at the top of the hill above the Castle, so if you don't have a car, that means hill walking every day. If you want to be closer to more restaurants and shopping, I would suggest staying in another area.
It’s directly at The Castelo do São Jorge. A beautiful historical area filled with history and amazing architecture. The Hotel is comfortable and feels like you are a guest at the castle, complimentary Port wine, the breakfast is wonderful, and the staff is friendly and helpful.
It’s a bit challenging to arrive as the streets are very narrow and frequently taxis refuse to take you directly to the Hotel. Only Taxis and locals may drive those narrow roads. Unfortunately there are a vast number of unscrupulous taxis.
The beautiful atmosphere and grounds. Loved the location which is adjacent to the castle which was a highlight. Complementary port in the room. Very clean and comfortable bed and nice bedding. Good shower and pressure. Beautiful hotel with a lot of character.
The only thing I would say is I didn't like the shower curtain but that is it! Staff was great!
Loved the hotel and room. Very comfortable
The location was up a steep hill and a bit out of the way. Most users do not go right up to hotel so u have to walk up hill
Everything. The staff, the room, the port each day restocked. Evening drinks and tea, coffee and pastries available all day. Location was perfect for us being right by the castle and quieter part of the city, especially at night
Nothing, everything was spot on.
We loved the charm of the castle & location, the amazing breakfast and friendly staff. We also appreciated the comfortable bed and water pressure.
Beautiful property! I loved our stay here in the Alfama neighborhood. The beds were so comfy. The AC very nice. Has an elevator and the breakfast was perfect. It’s a bit of a walk up hill but you can grab a taxi if you need to. But lovely stay. It’s actually above the entrance to the castle. Great to spend the evenings there watching the sunset from the castle outdoor cafe. Also so close to the 28 tram line and Saint Antonino church and a pastel bakery with the same name (Sant Antonino) - the best! Grab one on the walk down the hill.
It’s a bit of a hike but the ambiance is worth it
