Pros +
- Nestled in the heart of Chiado, The Ivens reimagines the adventures of two Portuguese explorers, with wildlife-inspired interiors that feel like a distinctly personal, luxury stay. From the moment we arrived to celebrate our engagement, the experience felt thoughtful. A bouquet of flowers, chilled champagne and delicate desserts set the tone. Our room struck a balance between refined luxury and easy comfort, with soft linens, lighting and everyday essentials that delivered a sense of calm after a day wandering Lisbon. We toasted to the occasion in Rocco, the hotel’s sprawling bar, which draws both locals and travellers - It was spirited without ever feeling loud. The negroni sours were a highlight and a definite must-try.Breakfast the next morning was fresh, generous and served with that effortlessly warm Portuguese service - thoughtful, convivial, but never intrusive. What distinguishes The Ivens is its blend of stylish design, intimate luxury and genuine hospitality. It doesn’t shout luxury, it embodies it in thoughtful touches, a spirited bar scene and the feeling that this is a place to celebrate life’s moments - big or small. In Lisbon, there are many beautiful hotels, but few offer such a seamless mix of place, personality and luxury.
- I selected the hotel online so didn't know what to expect and it could have not been better. We arrived very early and the wonderful front desk guy upgraded us and made sure we were very comfortable.
- Breakfast was expensive
Cons -
- We could not get into the restaurant (we didn't have reservations, and they made no exception for us even though we were guests of the hotel.
- Rooms could be more comfortable in keeping with entry , reception and restaurant.
- Everything but the staff were exceptional

Incredible staff, very knowledgeable and friendly and helpful. Great rooms and great location. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Lisbon
Everything but the staff were exceptional
the hotel was amazing, having worked in the hotel business for 35 years, I can't believe how awesome the hotel was, from the moment we arrived, the staff was friendly, helpful and wonderful all around.
Your restaurant Rocco wasn't able to seat us after we had a terrible meal elsewhere and they didn't seem to care that we were guests of the hotel. So we weren't able to even rate the food as we were only allowed to order cheese plate!
Everything! Dinner at Rocco’s was excellent. Complimentary breakfast was amazing. Gastro Bar was the most wonderful bar/experience I have ever been too. Concierge staff were so helpful and the guys helping at the front entrance were awesome. The designer who designed this place requires an award. Safari, jungle, whimsical, vintage all tied up in a pretty bow ?.
Loved everything! Will highly recommend.
It’s stunning there is an amazing bar called Rocco which served amazing drinks and excellent food and wonderful breakfast room - service was amazing
No outside space
Restaurant and bar amazing
The room was small and minimum for the cost
Although it was the first time we had stayed at this hotel, we felt at home, but with all the comforts of a 5-star hotel. It starts on arrival, with the friendliness of the valley car park, followed by the moment we entered the hotel. Not only is the decor phenomenal, but you can smell the great atmosphere. All the staff are welcoming us with huge smiles and one detail I loved was their uniforms. Completely different from what we're used to, bold, original and perfectly in keeping with the decor. They upgraded us to a premium room which was fantastic, huge with lots of natural light and unique details such as a Porto and an apple and caramel tart.Breakfast at Rocco was great, not just because of the food but because of the decor. Despite having a varied buffet of excellent quality, we opted to order a la carte. We had the seasonal vegetable frittata, the blinis with smoked salmon and creme fraiche and the avocado toast, which were divine. We only stayed one night, but the experience was incredible, both in the way it started and the way it ended (with the added bonus of having a couple of bottles of water and a card in the car)!
Very good location An exceptional welcome All the staff were very kindVery good breakfast

Best hotel in Lisbon. A charming, perfectly located hotel that comprises good taste, confort and impecable service level. The Ivens is also home to one of the trendiest restaurants in town, where you can have an amazing food experience. Hope to be back soon!
I have stayed already 3 times at The Ivens, and we can't get enough of it. The experience my wife and I have had there has simply gone up at every visit. Everything is just magical and well thought through. Great service, beautiful rooms, attention to detail, treats here and there, kind messages that make you feel good. The Acqua di Parma amenities is the novelty this time. Love their products. The shower, the pressure of the water, the bed and linens, the really puffy slippers (never seen elsewhere)...all exactly how things should be. I cannot recommend enough this hotel. And then there is the restaurant at the ground floor with an amazing and simply gorgeous cocktail bar. Amazing food, great service once again. And the breakfast is just another experience in itself. I recommend having it outside, in the "winter garden" / covered patio. All has been made for us to linger and relax.
Nice lobby.
Deceiving room. Paid extra for a “balcony” with a “city” view. Balcony was unusable. Meaning it was two feet wide and no chairs. The view was just the building next to it. The price just was not even close to worth it.
The hotel was great. The location was excellent. The staff were accommodating and extremely helpful.
I would have preferred more hanging space for our clothes.
Location and elegant room. Great bathroom. Everything so clean. Service was fantastic.
The hotel is just beyond expectation. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The decor is just absolutely gorgeous. This hotel was definitely worth the stay.
The room was not available at check in time, so we had to wait extra 40 minutes in the lobby. We also have to call the reception for wifi problem. The IT staff had to enter into the room to fix the issue.
Super centric in the city. Amazing decor. Great and vibey bar. The team is super helpful. It’s super clean. Lots of amenities, generosity and gestures.
Rooms could be more spacious
Great location, Lovely hotel and most staff were friendly. Although the rooms were quite small, the quality of the furnishings, bedding, toiletries etc were great. Lovely little messages and gifts throughout our stay which were nice. Great double glazing - really quiet at nights. We ate in Rocco a couple of times during our stay and the food and wine was great, we did only eat at lunch time though as the evenings were way too busy for us.
There is one main thing that could have been better, but it is a big thing for us. Rocco is joined to the hotel (review for that separately above). Unfortunately, this is the only option within the hotel to have a drink in a bar. Out of the four nights of our stay, we tried to get a seat here four times. Three times there were no seats at all as it was too busy so we asked if we could take a drink to our room - On the first night we were allowed to take a bottle of wine to our room after much discussion and had a couple of wine glasses however, on the other evenings we were advised that we could only take a drink to our room in a paper cup! Instead, we visited a very friendly bar down the road and bought a bottle of wine from them instead and took it to our room. Whenever we go away, we really like sitting in the hotel bar either before we go out or when we get back to the hotel and not being able to do this did detract from the stay. The only other point would be to say that although the rooms are really quiet from outside noise, whenever anyone left their rooms and shut the doors, the wall shook and it was very loud, although we did get used to this.
Staff is so friendly, and the pickup service is useful, the staff also recommends good restaurants for us.Thanks a lot.
The room is a little bit small due to the historic building itself.
