    • Fantastic location near central cologne. My room had a small kitchen and a nice bathroom.
    • Breakfast was pleasant
    • Close to the train station, decent facilities and room

    Cons -

    • The room I stayed (room 9) in was significantly less nice than the pictures of the hotel led me to believe. There was no AC in the room and 2 nights of my stay the room was over 80, maybe even 85 degrees. There was only a small fan provided to stay cool.
    • Difficult PIN code entry with poor lighting to see the keypad.Poor lighting in the roomVery small room
    • Small room, small shower, the instructions were a bit confusing so I lost the breakfast.

For the money, and the proximity to the central station, it’s the best place to rest your head for the night. Very comfortable.

Couldn’t find the light to the bathroom.

Breakfast was excellent. Our bags were transferred to our room while we shopped, awaiting our room being readied. Decor lovely! Location perfect, close to train station, but quiet and felt safe.

My husband hit his head on the loft ceiling. No tea making in the room, that was a problem.

The property was in the best location in terms of proximity from the train station and the nearby restaurants. The staff were respectful and attentive.

Great location, lots of shops and food places

Didn't like not having tea and coffee making facilitates. Would also benefit from better pillows and new quilts. Breakfast was beautiful lots of selection

The property is located on a street adjacent to Cologne’s central station — very convenient for traveling to and from Düsseldorf. It is also very close to the cathedral and the main shopping streets: it was lovely to take my time for an evening stroll and return comfortably to my room without any worries. The staff are very helpful and kind; the breakfast, although with a selection that wasn’t particularly wide, especially regarding coffee, was good and wholesome.

The room was incredibly small: 11 square meters, with no wardrobe and no usable desk or table. In practice, one could only stay in bed. Furthermore, being located in a building separate from the main hotel, it was necessary to go out onto the street to reach the breakfast room and for check-out. This is objectively a significant drawback, at least for the standard room I chose: a “standard” objectively suitable only for an overnight stopover. I assume other rooms in the hotel are larger. Otherwise, little else to note — the place was clean and well-maintained.

The lady at the front desk was rude and entered the hotel I was confused they have different buildings and the reception in a separate building to the ?

I liked so many things: the location near the Hauptbahnhof, the friendly reception, the thoughtful decor were all wonderful. The breakfast was the BEST! I’m sorry it was at the end of my trip that had included too much food.

I wasn’t sure why I had to establish a PIN code instead of using my key card. (NOT a big complaint)

Room was OK, bathroom a bit slippery, very good breakfast.

Need to read check in instructions. Check in was 100 yards down the road on the opposite side.

    8MauroPosted on: 8-19-2025

The breakfast was vary varied and exceptionally good. The location is excellent as you can walk to the Cathedral in less than 15 minutes.

The room I was given (no.2) is very compact (no wardrobe, but not an issue as I stayed only a couple of nights) and one can hear the main door being slammed every time a guest goes for breakfast from 7am.

    Room is clean. Good breakfast

The room felt dimly lit, with only a single warm light and a warm-toned colour scheme that made it appear even darker. The room is in different building across the road from the main one . That is ok. But it didn’t have any kettle or didn’t even keep any water in the room. When we requested a kettle, the manner in which it was refused felt unnecessarily sharp. We need to pick up a time slot (7-8or 8-9 or 9-10)for the breakfast which is in another building. We reached at 7.30 This made us not able to enjoy the breakfast though it was good.

    Vintage outlook

Sure! Here's your review rewritten with correct grammar, clarity, and a touch of satirical flair:---I know I was alone and it was just for one day, but that doesn’t mean the room had to feel like a glorified broom closet. There was no closet, by the way—so perhaps the room was just setting the tone.Amenities? What amenities? No water bottle, no coffee, no slippers—unless you count the confusion upon arrival as part of the "experience." You don’t actually go to the hotel you booked; no, you go to a different hotel where the reservation is handled. Like a secret mission, but less exciting. Now, the room itself? It's located right in front of the floor entrance. Yes, the very entrance—meaning every person coming and going gets to slam the door like it's part of a rhythm section. And if you’re not alone? Good luck! Only one person can enter at a time, since the password-controlled door opens directly into the hallway. The other person? They'll just have to wait... awkwardly. The air conditioning? Forget temperature settings—it only offers vague emotional choices like “Too Cold” and “Too Warm.” Because why have numbers when you can have feelings? As for the decor: a clash of eras. Vintage furniture meets modern gadgets like it’s trying out for a time-travel sitcom. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t work.Honestly, not ideal for a solo traveler—unless you enjoy brushing your knees against every wall. The toilet and shower are so tiny, you might find yourself reconsidering hydration just to avoid using them.Breakfast? Functional at best. One fruit. Limited bread. Salami options so thin and few you might think they were sliced by regret. And as a final twist of design mystery, there’s another room right in front of the breakfast room—because who doesn't want someone watching them butter toast?

    The location and the breakfast

The size of the room (too small), no closet to hang your clothes, the lighting could use some improvement (inside the shower you are basically in the dark) and the shower was really small.

    7VeronicaPosted on: 7-6-2025

The hotel was easy to find and very convenient for Cologne station. The room was comfortable. As the Hotel Domstern is a satellite building for the Hotel Domspitzen, there are limited facilities on site and reception and breakfast is available at the Domspitzen. The breakfast was excellent although you have to book the timing for breakfast in advance.

There was no tea or coffee available in the room or at the premises at all, which is disappointing, given that the main hotel is separate and a few minutes' walk away.
