    Pros +

    • It’s not a hotel , it’s some kind of concept idea that has a certain value
    • Lovely hotel, great staff. Very comfy stay. Really enjoyed the building as well, breakfast in the converted chapel was a lovely experience
    • Fantastic, clean modern rooms. Staff where helpful and very friendly. They answered mall my questions by email very promptly.

    Cons -

    • Because it operates as a concept hotel , it forgets to be a hotel . The creators are in love with their concept but forget about what is good for the guests . Example , there is no drinking water in the room but there are two empty bottles that the guest has to go and fill up themselves in the lobby … imagine you are ready for bed and need a sip of water … put back your clothes on and go to the lobby ? Why not fill up the bottles for the guests before rhey arrive ?
    • Lack of parking but we parked at the Novotel for 21 euro per day, you must pay in cash.
    • Staff was friendly but very busy.

The staff at Hopper Hotel St Josef greeted us with a smile. We enjoyed everything about the hotel. The generously appointed room with gorgeous large windows facing the quiet and serene courtyard. We look forward to our next stay.1

    We liked everything

The location is great, easily accessible by public transport. The building has history and it van be felt, the room is cozy, cute, well equipped, the chapel (breakfast place) is simply amazing. The staff is amazing: kind, helpful and intelligent

The toilet's door is a glass one, which works as bath door too, technically not so much privacy offered (which was fine for me bc I traveled with my sister, but can cause trouble to others). The sheets were full with hair pieces, dust (still ironed and fresh, it's clearly the laundry's fault)

Your staff are super friendly and helpful. The lady, Valenia (I hope I spelled it right) in the kitchen is super courteous and she runs everything efficiently and keeps the place clean. All the front desk staff are great - kind and patient. A shout out to Andrés and the lady (whose name I cannot recall) who works night. Andrés assisted with getting a doctor's appointment. The breakfast is amazing with a wide selections.Location is convenient is quiet and safe to walk at night as well as close proximity to public transportation.

The gym - dark and scary. Feels like in a dungeon!Perhaps relocate it to where we look out at the garden.

A really warm welcome. Interesting architecture. Some people in reviews have not liked the bedrooms - I say to them if you want boring book a chain hotel. The bedrooms had absolutely everything you could need you just need to look at the tiny stickers on the panels that indicates what lies behind them. It first I thought the lighting at the bedside was inadequate until I discovered that the strip on top of the headboard is a light which hinges out. It was also a good walk along the river nearby.

They don't do dinner. We were recommended a couple of nearby places but stupidly didn't book so finding somewhere nice to eat was a bit hard (it was the Friday before Christmas so our fault)

The renovation of the historical building is a great success. In the room, there are various thoughtful features and the space of the small room is very well used to maximise light, storage space and elegance.

What a coincidental find! Great location in the beautiful south part of Cologne. Great hotel that combines the old and new. Situated in a former collegiate church this place is cosy and comfy incorporating modern design. Great rooms with their artwork and hidden functional features (ironing board, blow dryer and fridge). Lovely floor boards. Breakfast is a must with a wonderful selection. Who would not want to dine in the former chapel with lead light windows. Fabulous staff, always friendly, always helpful. Very responsive to feedback and suggestions. Free still or sparkling water for the room at the bar. Nice touch: free cookies, lollies and depending on the season free mulled wine at the bar. Lovely little library if you wanted to get some work done. Great little sauna for some relaxation. Easy stroll from hotel to some breweries, cafes, restaurants, and shops. A definite must-try hotel!

The staff was great. Friendly and professional. Breakfast had a good variety.

    1. The breakfast area was too small. No small tables tables set up for 8 persons. 2. Breakfast staff very friendly but not able to keep the food refilled. Always wait time for certain items.3. No where to hang anything in the bathroom. No hooks nothing. 4. No shower curtain or door with the bathtub. 5. TV position beside the bed, and not at the end of the bed. Difficult to watch TV from the bed.6. No possibility to stop in front of the hotel to unload bags. Had to walk half a km to park the car. This should be mention.7. No WIFI on the 4th floor.8. Only a few TV channels. 9 . Over priced for you are offered.

    clean, modern, historic

I didn't like that the Sauna requires extra payment, this should be mentioned

    Location breakfast area

Changing of the bedding and towels had to ask

    9UnknownPosted on: 12-14-2025

Location was great and the size of rooms

It was perfect for the price. Only downside is the 3 steps to get into the property which was a bit difficult with a Pushchair but easy enough if there are two of you

    9AnnaPosted on: 12-3-2025

    Unique historical place

No parking but you could park in another hotel nearby. Parking seems to be a general issue in Cologne

super nice staff, mrs kaiser was brilliant, and her home-baked christmas cookies were extremely tasty. would always come back when in cologne! highly recommended!

    10BartPosted on: 12-2-2025

    Clean, friendly staff

A bit further away from the Christmas market but definitely walkable.

The location was great and the staff were nice.

I noticed the duvet cover was the wrong way around and was going to correct that when I was confronted with the dirtiest (previously white) yellow stained duvet I think I have ever seen. The duvet was also too small for the whole bed, and the room felt a bit cramped. Definitely not what I expected given what I paid.

On my latest trip to Cologne I was staying for a total of two weeks in and around the Cologne area. I picked this hotel due to it's proximity to the University and it looked cool from the photos. The rooms and general vibe was very artsy and quirky, which I like. The breakfast was wonderful and the hotel was quiet. Very pretty place.

Everything was very nice, the only thing lacking, and most people won't really care, was the 'fitness room' was an elliptical machine and a single cable machine. I would have liked a few dumbbells and maybe a cushioned yoga mat for stretching and floor exercises.

    9TanjaPosted on: 11-19-2025

Location was ideal and close to all meetings - super practical for runners who want to head out along the River. Loved the fish tank

Room was fairly small but well organized
