Mercure Cardiff North Hotel

I loved how spacious the room was and the size of the bed for just me. It was spotless and I would definitely stay again. Staff were very polite and professional also. 10/10 highly recommend

The ONLY thing that was a bit annoying was the remote for the TV didn't work so good. This feels like I'm clutching at straws because it really was perfect!

The room was fine - although a little chilly for October.

The breakfast was a pretty ordinary. The fresh fruit options were very poor. Charging £10 to park the car overnight seems extortionate and just plain wrong.

The location is very good being easily accessible from the A48 and a good base to visit Cardiff and surrounding areas. There is ample parking space.

The bed was very uncomfortable, not being a proper double bed but two singles pushed together with a big ridge down the middle. The beef in my evening meal was so tough as to be almost inedible. Breakfast was best described as chaotic. Only one coffee machine was working with consequent queues, many breakfast items has run out and were not replenished. Staff were rushing around but not apparently helping guests.

Location

Booked a year in advance for a wedding. Plans changed and our stay was shortened . Contacted the Hotel 9 months in advance to request a refund. No responseandno refund. Never staying in a Mercure hotel again

Disappointing

I've delayed writing this till I've calmed down a bit. I had a family emergency back at home so unfortunately I had to leave around 11.30-12 that night.The guy working on reception when I left was so so miserable, considering I was in a panic and a bit shook up, all he cared about is if the money had been paid for the room and the car park. I mean I didn't even stay the night so if anything I should have got a refund for the room car park and breakfast but at the time it was the least of my worries. He didn't have a care in the world about myself or speeding up so I could get back quickly. He shouldn't have a job in my opinion.Real shame for the hotel as the lady who checked me in the afternoon was unbelievably friendly and lovely.

Proximity to motorway

Receptionist was the most unfriendly person I have come across. Mould on the shower ceiling. Very stingy with beverages- one teabag or one coffee each. Poor lighting in bedroom and the side light didn’t work.

Breakfast was really good and the lobby area was nice with plenty of seating. Staff were pleasant and responsive.

We did not get the interconnecting room and the room opposite had a broken window. We were moved 3 times before we got our final room two floors up from the other room late at night with children being forced to sleep later than normal.

Our TV was not working in our room. The hotel was not very well staffed as it took forever to find someone to report our faulty TV to. Eventually found a staff member who said someone would come to our room with 10mins to look at the problem. No one came and we were without a TV all night!

Bed was quite firm, only 2 pillows on bed both of which were ‘solid’ foam, I’m used to a flat pillow so had a really sleepless night as I could not flatten the pillow and ended up with a very sore neck, hotels usually give you as least 4 different pillows on your bed (king size). Only 1 coffee pod in the box for the machine - again why bother?

Firstly, having to pay to park as a guest doesn’t seem fair. I booked two rooms as one individual is disabled and we like to be next to each other or at least on the same floor. Yet we were put on 2 different floors. When we queried this we were told you were busy!! This is unacceptable as I’d booked months in advance! At breakfast time the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy but there were no glasses for juice to start with and I had to go to reception as there was no one else to ask. Also we couldn’t make ourselves a plate of cooked breakfast as there were no eggs, hash browns or bacon, again I had to ask. I also had to ask for the butters to be refilled. If the restaurant was full to capacity I could understand things running out but it was really disappointing to have to keep looking for someone to ask. By the time I’d got to eat what I had on my plate it was cold! In our room we also only had one pillow each. We have stayed here several times and always had 2 pillows each.

Room was good size, spacious and nicely laid out.

Being told to leave a good a review at the restaurant when I had literally just put my knife and fork down. Felt very pressured by the waiter.Complained about the noise coming from below my room at midnight - twice. Had to walk down to reception. No action. Nothing the following morning. No follow up. Staff reluctant to engage or manage a problem. Not a good night's sleep. Would not stay there again.
