- Massive room and a very comfortable bed. we had a homemade lasagne and it was lovely and tasty you could tell it was homemade, good portion size and lovely crispy chips. We had a good nights sleep. This hotel was in a great location and it was exactly as shown in the pictures, its a little tired in places, but a lovely building and all the staff were amazing.
Cons -
- Everything
- There was no USB adapter in the room, didn't really matter, its just that i rarely carry one these days
- Lots of pot holes on the road, could put a bin for an ashtray outside. Seating area before restaurant could do with a decor touch up in places.

Beautiful building
Lots of pot holes on the road, could put a bin for an ashtray outside. Seating area before restaurant could do with a decor touch up in places.
This was our second stay at this hotel & I have to say I couldnt find any faults at all staff very friendly & helpful, room was Hugh clean with a lovely big bathroom, a fair size restaurant with compliment s to the chef & staff food was lovely & fairly priced also, lovely grounds. Would most definitely recommend this hotel & cannot wait to stay again.
The location
I was informed that there would be a mountain view from the bedroom. There wasn't. One very small window looking out at a wall.Bar was poorly stocked. Poor range of beer, low quality wine. Barman didn't know how to work coffee machine.Staff were adequate, but not as professional and welcoming as I have experienced during my previous stays at Ty Newydd.
The staff were very helpful and the room was clean and tidy.
Overall, the hotel was a bit tired both in terms of decor and facilities. The carpet in our room was frayed at the doorway, the windows full of cobwebs, the mattress wasn't great and there were patches on the wall where the plaster could be seen. Most of the furniture was okay but showing its age. There was a bit of a damp smell in and around the stair well and the car park surface in a very poor state. The first room we were allocated was directly above speakers that were playing loud music over the outdoor area at the front of the hotel. This was mid December and there was no-one out there. The second room was better but lit up by the our door lights at night. Luckily, we had both taken eye masks. We didn't eat at the hotel or use the bar.
The setting was beautiful, very peaceful, the room was a lovely size, old fashioned but perfectly suited the ambience of the hotel. The staff were so helpful and friendly, the 2 waiting staff in the evening were amazing, so polite, friendly and attentive. The food was spot on, absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced, we'll definitely be coming back.
The stay was good. The staff were friendly.Met the expectations.the view was stunning. Easy access to city.
The lighting inside the room. Rooms were little dark and felt the mattresses little uncomfortable.
Room was a good size. large bathroom. Warm and reasonably comfortable. One of the waiters was friendly and smartly dressed but he did not really have a clue what he was doing.
Food choice was very poor. Breakfast - only instant coffee offered. Lazy staff and little attention to detail. Room not made up after first night. Place was empty and we were the only two residents. No fire in the grate in the evening. Poorly trained waiting staff. This is marketed as a country house hotel - it's nothing of the sort.
The room was luxurious, the food outstanding, however the staff, clearly new, were untrained. My request for Tanqueray G&T was met with blank looks and “we don’t have that”. When I insisted that an hotel of this quality would undoubtedly serve this, they went away and found some. Likewise at breakfast, I was told that they had run out of orange juice, I again insisted that they check, and sure enough some more arrived. I don’t blame the staff, but the management. They should be supporting and training staff better. I spent most of my working life turning around failing organisations and more often than not attention to detail by management was the resounding failure.A final point, at a hotel of this nature with outstanding food, why are breakfast guests required to make their own from sachets of powdered coffee. Is a fresh pot of coffee too much to ask?In my opinion, the training and expectations of management need a serious shake up. The guest experience could be so much better with some attention to detail!
As above
Bad
The hotel needs a complete refurbishment. The bedroom furniture was scuffed. The bathroom was awful. It needed a deep clean. There was a crack in the toilet cistern and dirt in the corners of the room. Even the toilet roll had disgusting finger marks. We only stayed one night and couldn't wait to check out. The breakfast room floor was unswept and I wouldn't give the tomatoes on toast to my cat. I have photos to validate my review. One positive note was that the staff were friendly and helpful.
Large car park, quiet, good location for hiking Excellent food both in the evening and breakfast Friendly staff
Drains being dug in car park,Asked for a twin and got a double (only 1 other room booked) asked to check in at 2pm and we were told to wait! Hotel was empty so why? lounge area tired needs to be refurbished No fresh flowers, plastic ones!No real ales, no fresh coffee available at breakfast
The staff were excellent, very accommodating, the room was warm and comfortable, it was a good size and bathroom was also a decent size. Even though we didn't walk the grounds they did look nice, even on a bad day. The car park was a decent size with disabled parking which we used and appreciated. The breakfast was not our cup of tea but every thing was there, again if we needed to ask for anything I'm sure the staff would have sorted it.
There were many aspects of the room we could criticise, stains on pillow covers, noisy doors on wardrobe, bidet not functioning properly, toilet paper was thinnest I'd ever seen, door locks were a little cumbersome and more.
I love the countryside and this place looks like it came out of a period drama
No restaurant/pub open on Sunday and no room service.
Staff were pleasant, very large bedroom.
Desperately in need of investment. Carpets need renewing, two broken panes in the windows of the bedroom, more power points would be better, hotel bar not in use- necessary to use the attached restaurant bar. Door to conservatory banged every time, and a lot of use with the event on Saturday night.
Beautiful hotel, on the face of it.. in a spectacular location. Huge room compared to modern, purpose-built hotels. Clean and comfortable, restaurant and bar downstairs.
It's an old building and naturally lacks the most modern hotel features. The door operates with a key, which has to be left in Reception.. the doors are not soundproofed, windows are wooden sash type and difficult to operate .. and the bathroom has seen many better days.
Country property near to my intended walk starting point
Decoration needs updating and refreshing. Restaurant was closed when I arrived after8pm and no food available from the bar. As it’s in the middle of nowhere, later food availability would have been nice.
The room was spacious, nicely decorated. We had dinner at the restaurant, the food was delicious. Thank you.
Breakfast was fairly good, but luke warm soggy scrambled egg was not.
