Cons -
- Yes. It's barely a 2 star hotel 1. The urine smell from the bathroom extends to the bed area 2. Old- broken handshower 3. Need a better cleaning crew 4. Old and dusty drapes 5. Breakfast sucks.
- AC did not work. Kept window open but there was a lot of street noise. Only stayed one night so it wasn't too much of an issue.
- The lift could’ve been bigger. But workable!

Location for us
Cleanliness, friendly staff, great location, nice breakfast, very good value for money.
Very close to Termini. Lots of nice restaurants in the surrounding streets. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of options. A bit hectic depending on the time you go down! No complaints! Have stayed there a few times now and more than happy to stay again!
The lift could’ve been bigger. But workable!
Nice room. Very clean, although the drains had a stinky aroma, that was at times a little overwhelming. Good breakfast, but a little repetitive.
No electricity first evening, and although I understand planned maintenance happens we were not informed prior to stay (perhaps an email would have been fitting), as the service notice by the elevator was pre-dated, so they should have notified
We had only one night as we arrived from airport and next day departures by train to another city. So first of all - great location, 5 minutes by walk from Termini main entrance, lots of cafe in few steps from hotel. Nice staff who helped us with accommodation for our 6 people team:) we stayed at on one room with 2 bedrooms and one with one bedroom. It was clean, warm and comfortable
Nothing to say
Location was great. Walkable to the major tourist attractions such as colosseum, Spanish steps, pantheon and trevi fountain. Staff were friendly
Power cut on the first night during check in process. Not told enough information as to what was happening/ when lights would be on etc. Checked into our room in darkness so had to use the torches on our phones which were nearly dead. Couldn’t charge as power outage. Couldn’t shower or put tv on. We didn’t expect much with price we was reasonable but didn’t feel safe. It then come back on in the middle of night when we were asleep. Rooms were very noisy - could hear other residents as though they were in the room. Our neighbours came back at 2.30am so we were up through the night with this. The shower was cold and pressure was hardly anything the next morning. We complained that evening and asked for this to be fixed to be told it was now fixed. The next morning it was cold again- only seemed to be warm at night. Sachets of shower gel only but again didn’t expect this as was an extra. No coffee in the room only tea with kettle. Stayed here as it was my birthday & put a request in to let them know this which was acknowledged but didn’t receive anything not even a little card.
The location was very good especially for Roma Termini which was almost around the corner and for the hop-on, hop-off buses. Some of the major attractions where in walking distance to.The staff were very helpful, polite and courteous, especially Edwardo who helped me out on more the one occasion. The reception area is quite sparse and dated but my room was larger than I expected for the price I paid for when staying in room and more than adequate for my needs
The Internet can be a dodgy at times, there was no USB ports or an additional sockets to charges mobiles, laptops etc.I had a smart TV in my room but was unable to access any of the apps on it ie. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney so I was restricted to watching only the terrestrial Italian TV stations, only two of which where in english.
The proximity to Termini Station is very useful, from where it is easy to use the Metro in all directions. Also it's a short walk to the Colosseum and Forum. The included breakfast was very welcome and varied. The staff were friendly, and to my shame spoke excellent English, in contrast to my poor Italian. Also there is a small, unpretentious but excellent restaurant called Ristorante Alfredo one block away, the food is amazing!
Nothing I can think of to complain about. The breakfast area is a bit cramped, but that's mainly the fault of thoughtless bumbling hungry guests.
Room was comfortable and quiet, breakfast included fruit, yogurt, hot food and the location was excellent, next to Termini station and very near Santa Maria Maggiore
Hotel California’s location is superb, close to Termini Station, for example. It is also easy to the spot the building unlike a few other B&Bs/Hotels in the area. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Their breakfast is good too with sweet and savoury options. They also had a document printed for me. Overall, highly recommend the place.
Great location. Stored our luggage for free. Fantastic breakfast included for us. Clean linens and good towels
We didn’t have a renovated room. Quite dated and felt like it just need a good detail clean.
The room was ok, clean. Beds comfortable. Breakfast is ok, but if it gets crowded, you need to wait for fresh bread or plates or knives.
Polite friendly staff, facilities good, breakfast ok, lift was working, sheets bathroom room clean, comfort etc, BUT
All of the above are reduced to zero when the automatic ventilation of the room, you cannot switch it of, is constantly filling the room with bad sewage smell, this you cannot ignore, it ruins your stay. And in the winter you cannot do much. I expect the staff knows about the problem but still, they lend this room, or rooms. They should not, until the problem is resolved.
Location. Friendly staffs at the breakfast room.
Overall, the building is old and run-down, with stairwell walls that look quite scary especially at night. It’s cold and dingy.
The location is very convenient. Suitable for a 1–2 night stay if you’re looking for a practical hotel. Breakfast is decent, and the Filipino staff are friendly and helpful.
The walls between rooms are definitely thin, you can hear footsteps in the hallway and conversations from the next room
Great location , close to termini station with connections to trains, metro and busses . The room was good size with a big bathroom . Cleaned daily with change of towels . The rooms has a minibar with some drinks you might need ( cocacola, fanta, water & beer) at a cost but was good when we forgot to buy on our first night. The breakfast was nice , although at times we had to wait for food and mugs to be refilled , but overall good breakfast which included pastries , bread , cold cuts , cereals , yoghurts , fruit , boiled eggs , s scrambled eggs and sausages . The staff were very welcoming and also kept our luggages on our first and last day . Overall it was a great experience . Good value for money
The reception area , the common area and the lift need a bit of an upgrade as they are rundown. Sometimes there was a smell in the bathroom and the solution to it by the house keeper was to open the room window when we leave our room ( which helped ) but the problem was not entirely solved . The room door (35) does not close well , sometimes its a bit noisy especially when the housekeeps start in the morning ( 7.30/7.45 ) .
Location is great considering it’s close to the main station and has a lot of eatery options and connectivity is great
Wasn’t very clean.
Great Hotel overall ,that we.have stayed at several times before.
Needs more breakfast items. Adequate but very simple breakfast.
