  • Hotel Washington in Rome is a scam!!! Please be aware!!! I booked a room through Booking.com for one night from October 18-19, 2025. Just as I was about to go to the hotel with my suitcase, I received a call from the hotel at around 4 PM saying that they have no rooms available and the reservation was made by Booking.com by mistake. They told me not to come to the hotel. Rome had multiple events that weekend (half-marathon, etc.) so I spent the next 3 hours trying to find another room. Eventually, I was able to find a room through Booking.com near the airport. To my shock, Hotel Washington charged me for the room as a "no show" in spite of the fact that THEY called me to say that they have no room for me even though I had made a reservation. When I complained to Booking.com, the hotel told them that "they could have honored the booking". If you have a confirmed room at this hotel and they call to tell you that they have no room available and the reservation was made by a mistake, please make sure to go to the hotel and ask for a room. If they refuse, call your booking agency and let them know that there is no room so that they can talk to the hotel and you are not charged for the room. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT HOTEL WASHINGTON IN ROME IS A SCAM and is run by liars!! I am equally upset by losing $400 and being left stranded in Rome without a room.

Central location close to Termini

Noise. I was assigned a room close to the front desk... people kept coming and going with luggage all night long. Personnel was often not available at the desk, so guests rang the bell and had to shout to call them... you can imagine.

Close to the main things, restaurants and train station

No hot water, in front many trash and saw the biggest rats ive ever seen

It was a good deal and feels very safe. Hotel has double doors and they lock 2 of them. So random strangers can’t enter the hotel. If you are looking for cheap hotel in central Rome, i would recommend you

Rooms don’t have kettle. There was only one for guests and doesn’t have iron

Only the location is good but it's difficult to find the hotel as the Branding and display boards are not good enough

Many things I don't like. The ceiling panel was found open and AC work is going. The toilet was too small and with a faulty water tap. Beware of the neighbourhood late at night or early morning especially if starting for an early morning flight from FCO..

The staff was helpful and at least the room was clean. The location is very close to a metro hub.

We paid for a triple room, because we needed separate beds and double rooms only had queen beds. The moment we were shown our room, it was a double room. We complained and they moved us to this tiny triple room, with no closet and a window that was impossible to close. We tried, the staff tried, no luck. Fortunately I had earplugs. Unfortunately, they did not protect me against the loud banging caused by trash bins being moved right under our window, in the hotel courtyard, around 6am. My roommate thought it was an earthquake, I was convinced someone was trying to break into the room by slamming the door down, that's how loud it was. Bathroom was poorly equipped, a few tiny soap bars, no shower gel, no shampoo, no hanger for towels. No one cleaned the room for three days. They didn't change towels or refill toilet paper. There were rats in the courtyard every single day, though that may be a city issue. The area does not feel safe for women and children after dark, a fight broke out on the first night and every evening there were very shady characters lurking around, plus a guy shooting heroin or something similar four meters from the hotel entrance.

The best part of the stay was the location—very convenient, just a short walk from Rome Termini station , and surrounded by restaurants, cafes, and shops, which made exploring the city easy.

The room was decent, but the toilet was extremely congested. The shower area was very small and uncomfortable to use—definitely not ideal for most guests. It would be much better if the bathroom space was improved. Also, there were no basic amenities like a glass to drink water or a kettle to make tea or coffee, which was quite disappointing.

I think the one single best word in the English language to describe this hotel is "FLOPHOUSE."

Firstly, my computer was stolen from my locked room. Security was very bad. Door to street often left open with no one covering Reception desk. If you must stay here, don't leave anything remotely valuable out in plain sight, even if you leave with the door locked. Secondly, the neighborhood is bad. Termini station filled with police, Carabinieri, and even uniformed armed soldiers with billy clubs and pistols. Even has its own police station, BUT... Robberies frequently reported in the neighborhood, even by hotel staff. I would warn everyone NOT to use any hotel between Termini station and the Colloseum: the whole area seems to have a bad reputation. Thirdly, not one drop of hot water during the entire 3 day stay in February. In fact, there was no heater for the room at all. Fourthly, the bathroom sink was draining only extremely slowly. Fifthly, Termini Metro A line, (the one toward most of the attractions and the Vatican), is full of pickpockets. I just assume the surrounding area is just the same. Use a money belt and a body pouch for your phone. Try to SIT in a seat on the Metro, or stand with your back to the wall and not to another person. Phones, passports, and other valuables should be in inside pockets inaccessible to expertly thieving hands. During the rush hours the Metro A line is EXTREMELY crowded, making it simple for the pickpockets to work their crimes. The entire Rome area is over-priced Hotel wise. The tourists will keep coming for the Vatican and the other arts and historical sites, so nothing will change. Many people are nice and helpful. But the one I will remember is the one who said to me on the Metro during an intensely crowded rush hour: "Somebody stole your phone" (from my pocket): NOT "Somebody is stealing your phone."

The location

The room was quite small, the bathroom too small, the window was to an inner, super noisy backyard...

5AmieliiaPosted on: 11-19-2024

Good location, just a few blocks away from central train station. On foot 20-30 min away from colosseum and city centre. Friendly stuff.

The district is quite criminal. Be careful coming at the hotel after dark. There were rats on the entrance to the hotel. But none in the room. The water in the shower was either ice cold or after waiting for good 5min boiling hot.Room looks cheap and not really cozy, but everything was working.

Simple, fit to price. Location near train station

The bad area, atmosphere though close to train station. I have been told there is luggage storage but we arrived early, there was no one so we can leave baggage.Reception is starting work after 9am.

6Enricoferrarin1992Posted on: 6-22-2024

The receptionist was very helpful

around termini station the situation is disgusting, bums, drug addicts and garbage everywhere, but the station is really near. the room was on the top floor, that is, a very low attic, small, about 10 square meters, no elevator.

8JasonPosted on: 4-15-2024

Staff were very friendly. Arrived before check in time and had access to the room. Inside the hotel and room were both clean. Location was perfect it was close to everything.

The hotel entrance was very off putting. At night you could hear rats squealing. We checked out at 3am to be greeted by rats running around the outside of the hotel. At night coming back to the hotel would make it feel unsafe at times with gangs hanging around the street outside.

Our experience was great! Kind and smiling staff and always clean rooms. Location is very near to other popular places. Recommend!

2DavidPosted on: 9-24-2023

Never again

Ground floor, trash and mess under the window, no equipment, just a hole, very overpriced hole.

2ThelmaPosted on: 8-25-2023

The staff was nice, nothing else.

The facilities were not at all like the pictures showed. To enter the hotel you have to pass an alleyway filled with trash and rats. The cleanliness was questionable. Not at all a pleasant stay and the price it's not worth what we got.
