    Pros +

    • Really nice renovated mansion. The rooms are big and gorgeous, and the restaurant is super.
    • Character of older homes and history. Size of the room.

    Cons -

    • No liked it all
    • Very warm and air conditioning seemed electronically controlled on pre arranged schedule making it difficult to keep a good temperature level.
    • The floor in the bathroom had a small step which should be highlighted more prominently for nighttime use. It presented a trip hazard for me and I barely avoided hitting my face on a wall. The nightlight was insufficient to light the floor.

Friendly staff & beautiful marriage between modern & antique decor. Love this 1860s Place! It is very well renovated, the rooms are very well heated with modern heating/cooling system - but room2 no heat in bathroom (floor cold) Still highly recommend!

Shadow Lawn is a first-class establishment! The proprietor, Martin, was both professional and friendly. He went out of his way to accommodate an additional day to address our booking date error when we arrived a day early. We loved the historic building, and the included breakfast was delicious, healthy and beautifully presented. We also enjoyed The Robertson Restaurant with friends. Our meals were excellent, and our server was perfect!

The breakfast was absolutely delicious. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the room and bathroom were large and well-appointed. Staff were friendly and down-to-earth. I recommend this place highly!

Would have been better if there was an elevator, but that is not to be expected in a home like this.

The bathroom was a little cold

It is a stunning location and staff was so friendly and accommodating.

The bathrooms was a bit chilly but to be expected with the age of the property. It would be nice to add a coffee machine in the room for evenings and early mornings.

Nice to spend a night in such a beautiful historic house. Staff was amazing, food was great and served in a charming dining room well decorated for the Holiday season. The owners were very attentive to our requests even if they were super busy with a group dinner in one of the dining room.

As many old houses, there was a bit of a draft (cold Winter day) coming from the old windows in our bedroom facing the front. Fortunately, we cranked up the heat but the bathroom floor and temperature stayed cold. Otherwise, it was a wonderful room and all the rest was very satisfying.

The ambiance, cleanliness and great service.

    Nothing. It was wonderful.

    10MargaretPosted on: 8-13-2024

It is such a beautiful old property. Well-maintained and tastefully decorated.

The WiFi needs improving. And the bathtub was not useable because it did not have a plug.

restaurant and breakfast were great as well as staff beautiful old mansion

Great staff! Property is very well operated and extremely neat!

Breakfast could have been a little more substantial. But we were very well received.

Close to St John and ferry from Nova ScotiaRestaurant on siteStaff were friendly and helpfulBreakfast was included - croissants were excellent

The bedroom window was painted shut, the air cooling/heating system was noisy and antiquated. The bathroom windows opened inwards but were dirty on the outside The plumbing was antiquated, noisy horrible macerating toilet system, water in the basin either off or full blastNo coffee or tea making facilities in the bedroomThe background musak at breakfast - ugh!The restaurant positions itself as fine dining. It's good but not that good.

Owners were very friendly. They do serve a big dinner here sit down but you need to make reservations ahead of time. It is a popular restaurant in the area.

It is a bit remote. You have to drive into town.

Beautiful home and area. The restaurant was fantastic. The beds were the most comfortable I've experienced in travelling. The staff work in the restaurant and are generous and kind.

I had the last room, the two-bed suite. The room was plain compared to the other historically decorated rooms. After seeing what the other rooms looked like, it was a little disappointing, but not really a big deal.

    The breakfast, and the bed.
