Slow drains, crumby bathroom. No breakfast

My daughter went to take a shower, noticed how unclean it was. She turned the shower on, and the tub filled up as almost she was taking a bath. The bathroom door wouldn’t even shut all the way without having to basically slam it shut.

Kind staff.

Breakfast service wasn't so good, but due to no fault of the owners. Their kitchen and breakfast area was destroyed by a drunk driver. It would have been nice to know that breakfast was not a real option. I paid extra for breakfast expecting a typical hotel breakfast, but was handed a frozen breakfast sandwich, and juice box. Bathroom was a little dated, but serviceable and clean.

The room was nice. I did notice something spilled on the wall behind the nightstand, but overall, it was very clean. The towels were the best, nice and fluffy.

Space was nice. There were plenty of towels for the whole family.

Floors were dirty, couldn't twalk around barefoot, and the beds were stiff. Some sheets had apparent stains. Suggestion doors might need new seals to keep dust and dirt out better.

The rooms were recently updated, fresh paint, new flooring, new tv's. It was very clean and smelled clean too! The owner was very friendly every time I interacted with her.

The beds were cheap and hard. I'm sure with all the recent upgrades the probably needed to budget to upgrade mattresses too. I'm a big guy so I like a softer bed. Not something that would prevent me from staying there again, but it's definitely something the owners might want to invest in.

It was a very clean room and clean area. The looks on the outside can be deceiving but the rooms seem to be totally updated and comfortable.

The room was not carpeted but then again, that is sometimes cleaner than carpet. The bottom of the tub was stained but just stained, not dirty. There was not a breakfast. The TV was pretty small to be viewed by both beds.

We liked that it had a refrigerator and a microwave as well as free wifi. The table where one ate and the chairs were nice.

The shower was horrible. It was so stained, appearing dirty that we decided to forego showering for fear of its dirtiness. One area around the skirting of the bedding was dirty. It did have a tv, but it was about the size of a computer monitor. We are unsure why we had an extra surcharge with booking as we made the booking online through Booking.com. However, somehow we ended up with a credit card surcharge. For Booking.com part, they were of no help in explaining the extra surcharge. We think this place is geared more for long-haul truckers and construction workers.

Passable

The reviews and pictures did not match what we got. This reservation said breakfast was included but we had to show the front desk person and all we got was a frozen breakfast sausage sandwich,apple sauce, juice box and granola bar for a $108 US rate stay.

Owners were down to earth, genuine and helpful! Facilities are old but the room was clean and comfortable. Great shower!

The heater/air conditioner kept turning on and off every few seconds.

I love the updated rooms and friendly owners! I love staying here when I go to visit family in Arapahoe. We will stay here again and again for sure!

We got in super late. The front desk was extremely helpful and had us all set up. The hotel was one third the price of other hotels.

Owners were extremely accommodating. Room was very clean and spacious.

Wish I had more time to enjoy their distillery.

I wasn’t expecting much. It’s not much to look at in the outside but the rooms were nice— very clean. Loved the shower head and water pressure. Beds were comfortable.

We were on a 2 1/2 week family road trip across the USA from New York to California. We were staying on US Route 6 from Mansfield, PA to Frisco, CO (lots of traffic lights in Ohio!). The idea was to see the country on a local level, to spend our money on local businesses rather than corporate conglomerates as much as possible, many of which have been challenged more in the past year due to Covid-19.The Shady Rest fit the bill perfectly. We paid a few dollars more for the continental breakfast option, which we knew wasn’t going to be any elaborate made to order eggs benedict kind of thing - I mean, we paid an extra $5 for four of us. I called ahead to let them know we were running a bit late. The proprietor mentioned that he had noticed we paid for the continental breakfast, so before we arrived he went to our room and stocked the mini fridge with the breakfast items: juice bottles, fruit cups, as well as granola bars and pre- packaged pastries. Again, it wasn’t fancy, but it was exactly what we needed to start the day before hitting the road. The extra personal touch was well appreciated!As far as the room and the property; clean, comfortable, peaceful, and a great value! Check in was a breeze, a key code, and we never even saw the lobby. We never met the proprietors in person, but would like them to know they are doing things right! The Shady Rest Motel is the poster child example of small businesses that we like to support. Well done!!

It would have been better if we had a bit more time to explore the small town. I have no doubt that someone there has a story to tell. Everyplace does, if you only slow down and take the time to listen.
