The entire hotel was so clean and spacious. Loved the breakfast area with the outdoor scenery and big windows. And loved my king suite. Wonderful hotel and great value.
This hotel is CLEAN and the rooms are HUGE. It is similar to staying in a small condo. Breakfast is blahh. Sit on the back deck its very peaceful, even with the highway noise.
The rooms are classy & comfortable...I like that there are mini fridges & microwaves. The location is great, close to the interstate, but quiet. The breakfast variety is amazing. Very clean.

Close to the fairgrounds where we had an event to attend.
Good location and friendly staff. Will stay here again if I'm in the area.
The best part? I guess that it was within a mile of a Casey's General Store and just off the highway, which made travel easy.

This was probably the cleanest hotel I've stayed at. At one point, I walked by a room being turned by staff and actually saw the staff member on hands and knees cleaning under a piece of furniture!
We were not happy with this hotel at all. There was no smoking in the hotel at all, but yet when we walked into the room, it had a strong cigarette smell and a spray deodorant spray can was in the room...must have been for the smoke smell.
Met my needs..good breakfadst.

Top Tips
- Book hotels 6-8 weeks ahead for Iowa Speedway race dates or Jasper County Fair weekends, as rates can increase by 10-25%. The downtown boutique Hotel Maytag fills first. Confirm event dates before booking to maximize availability and rate options.
- Choose a downtown hotel such as Hotel Maytag for walkable access to main dining and Maytag-related sites, most within 0.1-0.4 miles. Hotels near I-80/US-6 are generally 3-5 miles from downtown and offer 10-25% lower midweek rates. Check if your hotel has shuttle service between I-80/US-6 and downtown.
- Airport transfers from Des Moines International Airport (DSM) to Newton cover roughly 34-36 miles, taking 40-50 minutes by car in light traffic. If arriving after 8 PM, arrange a rental car or pre-book a shuttle, as evening public transit options are limited. Confirm rideshare availability before traveling, since coverage varies.
- Most Newton hotels offer free self-parking. For Hotel Maytag and other downtown event accommodations, verify parking policy in advance during festival or race weekends, since private lots may add fees or limit access to non-guests. Ask about available accessible parking or reserved accessible spaces if needed.
- For accessibility needs, request a ground-floor or elevator-accessible room, especially in historic downtown Newton properties. Confirm in writing the presence of ADA features like step-free entry, roll-in showers, or visual alarms.
- Newton provides limited late-night public transit. If arriving after 9 PM, arrange for a rental car or pre-book a local taxi or rideshare, as some providers do not operate outside core hours or downtown. Confirm early morning departure options, since service may be limited before 6 AM.
- Hotel Maytag offers onsite meeting and banquet facilities, making it a primary option for conferences or wedding room blocks. Confirm capacity, reservation requirements, and available audiovisual or accessibility features in advance, as space is limited during local festivals.
- Newton municipal water is safe to drink. If you prefer bottled water, verify if your hotel provides free or paid bottled water in-room, as policies vary. Ask about hydration stations or refill points if you prefer to use your own bottle.
