The maintenance/cleaning man was the ONLY good experience. I felt bad for him because he was left to figure out how to help when it should have been the front desk. He let us use his ROKU so we could have tv.
Great Price, manager waived pet fee, clean modern room, I would recommend this hotel for the price alone and hopefully the much needed improvements will be done soon.

Top Tips
- Book hotel rooms at least 21 days ahead during National Ice Cream Month (July) to avoid 30-50% price increases, especially for the National Ice Cream Festival (first weekend). Room availability drops below 20% within 10 days of the event.
- Compare properties on the north or east side of US-71, such as near Palmer Park, for 10-15% lower base rates. These average $115 USD per night, versus $130+ USD south or west of US-71 near the Wells Enterprises campus. For walkability or transit options, check proximity to event shuttles or downtown landmarks.
- To avoid dynamic checkout currency (DCC) markups of 4-7% when paying at independently owned motels (like Super 8 or local inns), always choose 'charge in USD' at checkout. Verify card acceptance, and alert your bank if using an international card.
- Request a room above ground floor near 1st Street SW and 5th Avenue SW, close to Kum & Go and the fire station, to reduce nighttime noise by up to 40%. If upper-floor rooms are unavailable, ask about in-room noise mitigation options like white noise machines or earplugs.
- Confirm advertised free Wi-Fi speed is at least 25 Mbps if you need remote work reliability, as only about 60% of Le Mars hotels offer this or better. Check that high-speed Wi-Fi is available in rooms, not just in public areas or business centers.
- Use the local ATM at Winnebago State Bank’s main branch (500 1st St SW) to avoid $3-$5 USD non-network fees, common at hotel or chain convenience stores such as Casey’s. Check bank open hours or if 24-hour access is available.
- Tip housekeeping $2-$5 USD for extra requests in extended-stay suites if service exceeds 15 minutes per day, as biweekly cleaning is generally included. Confirm exact housekeeping policies with the front desk at check-in, as they may vary by hotel brand.
- Ask about step-free access to your room, not just the lobby, in hotels built before 2005. Only 40% of these properties with elevators also offer step-free bathroom access. If needed, request a 'roll-in shower, no threshold,' and confirm in-room accessibility features beyond bathrooms.
- Decline daily linen service to save water during June-August, when Le Mars may face moderate water stress (Level 2). Skipping daily changes saves approximately 35-50 gallons per room per day; verify this option is voluntary with hotel staff at check-in.
- Stack AAA/CAA discounts with corporate rates at chain hotels like Holiday Inn Express and Best Western for a potential 12-18% savings. For example, a $149 USD standard rate can drop to $122-$130 USD. Verify eligibility, as not all properties allow rates to be combined.
- Carry bottled water during July heat events (3 or more days above 95°F), even at hotels with climate control. Power outages affect 5-8% of properties during summer peak loads—backup generators are rare, so ask at check-in if one is available.
- Book only through the official state lodging registry at traveliowa.com for rural stays near Le Mars, as 90% of farm rentals listed through third-party aggregators are unpermitted. Use the site's filter options to confirm properties are state-registered.
