    Pros +

    • The cleanliness, the staff, the amenities, modern
    • Very pet friendly, polite and helpful staff, clean and stylish. Superb stay!
    • Room was spacious.

    Cons -

    • Parking is limited but you are allowed to park around in the neighborhood
    • Bed and pillow can be firmer.
    • A few to check in forty minutes early if the room is ready is greedy and the opposite of hospitality. I have travelled for work all over the world for twenty years and I have NEVER had the front desk tell me there’s a fee if I arrive a little early and the room is ready. There is also no space to wait and work comfortably if you get in early from travels and don’t get into your room. Also though someone has out energy into stylishness I found multiple things in the room poorly designed with zero foresight. And the price was a joke. I’d have been more confortable at a holiday inn. Or somewhere where the pretentious attitude matched the actual quality of the hotel. My room looked right out onto the street and a parking lot. I mean like feet from it There was a bathtub on the patio which I can only assume was designed by a voyeur. And the sheer curtain was drilled into the wall was decided on by someone who didn’t look at the space and understand that for privacy you want the side that’s screwed into the wall to be the one that you can move.

I loved the modern elements of the decor. I loved checking in through the app. I loved the fire elements and the soaking tub on the patio. I loved a functional kitchen and a lovely bathroom. Liked the decks. I also loved that there was a little electric car garage. Our car was too big, but that is a nice touch.

I was disapointed with the bed's mattress. Very uncomfortable. It was not typical of a luxious hotel. A comfy hotel bed is a key element in the overall experience. Also, there was some soiled areas (rug in living room and swing chair pad on the deck.

Cozy location close to lots of things to do

If you come when there is a big event, expect higher prices (same for all of South Lake Tahoe)

Perfect location. Everything you would want to do in the area is walking distance. Ability to rent bikes. The bed is very comfortable. Outdoor bathtub. Complimentary reusable water bottles and champagne.

Pretty loud if you are below the restaurant. Outdoor tub privacy screen was broken.

Beautiful small hotel with high quality amenities. Excellent bedding.

One size fits all for the bike. No coffee in the room. The location is not directly on the lake.

The location is close to casinos and the lake but it’s not in a great neighborhood.

My room was beautiful but my view out my balcony was an apartment building that had kids screaming outside until midnight. They have a tub on the balcony which would be fun to use if there was privacy. They have townhomes which might be quieter than the motel side.

location was great, staff are super friendly and helpful.

room had a blue tooth speaker, neither of us could connect and no directions for use. Coffee in a chemix is not the best for 2 people, doesn't stay hot, messy etc and no creamer. No iron or steamer in room, had to ask and first steamer didn't work. Bathrooms are really dark for make up application etc.

    Beautiful. Modern. Asthetically pleasing

I wish there was complimentary breakfast. We could not figure out the fireplaces at all. The tv was not easy to navigate either.

    4AlexPosted on: 8-13-2024

Location it’s near to downtown Lake Tahoe

The hotel itself it’s not bad. But for the services you receive definitely not worth it. -the pool are it’s depressing, no music, no vibe-no daily room service, unless you stay 3 days plus -the cost per night it’s definitely not worth it-front desk lady wanted to charge me $50 for early check in at 2pm

    Not much, location is central.

Even though we booked months in advance, we were given a room with a view on the parking and next to the public toilets so very noisy. When we arrived at the hotel and asked the person at the reception if he could help with luggage, he declined saying that the hotel was not offering such services while he was eating his noodle dish. This is supposed to be a “5” stars hotel, at least they have 5 stars’ prices (around 700usd / night), it does not offer any services, the receptionists are not familiar with the region so do not count on any advice on what to do… They have bicycles but no kids’ size so not family friendly at all.

The facilities were great, staff was very friendly and helpful. The space was well thought out even for a small room. I loved the kitchenette and awesome bathroom. Price was just right. Loved the free laundry room.

Our TV had a weird static noise if the volume was turned up. I wished there was extra sugar/creamer/tea in the rooms. The "lobby room" closes at 8pm, which is where this setup is. Only that area could be more convenient, which was fine because I just grabbed extras as I passed by.

I really loved this place. The guy at the front desk was amazing. He was so knowledgeable and friendly.

    Wish they had 2 bedrooms

Location, feng shui, room well designed and the overall structure blended into the local environment

Overall customer service was good. Quality and value of stay was good as well.

Some amenities were non-working. Had to ask the staff to turn temperature down in gym from 83 degrees to something appropriate in the 70s. Blind in bedroom was nonworking, had to ask staff to repair. Privacy blind in living room broke as well and had to be repaired. Complimentary housekeeping does not clean your room. Rather just a refresh with new towels and bed making. No new sheets or cleaning of restrooms or kitchen or floors. Last day of our stay the staff forgot to tell housekeeping to clean our room. Also we got locked out of our room in our last day because the system checked us out. Also the jacuzzi was not working on multiple occasions. The spa temperature was working intermittently according to staff. Also the onsite restaurant didn't cook our venison at the correct temp and gnocchi was raw and the dish had to be sent back. Family was already done eating by the time the dish was ready and we asked staff to comp the dish and we were given a couple of drinks for free to make up for it. That was helpful but we didn't want to patron the restaurant again. Underneath the couch bed, there were old gummy candies from a previous resident. Also the indoor bathtub jets were filthy from old mold. Just some disappointing experiences, but hopefully they can be addressed. We hope to stay at the property again.

My wife and I stayed at Desolation hotel for 2 weeks. From the warm welcome on arrival to the wonderful facilities this boutique hotel is perfect. It is conveniently situated a 5 or so minute walk from the main ski gondola at Heavenly and a very short walking distance to the village and lake. There is lots of parking for guests and we used it as a base to ski Kirkwood, Northstar and Palisades. After a day skiing the pool, hot tub fire pits and private sauna were wonderful. Our room had a very boutique high end 5 star feel and facilities like the gym are nicely equipped with Peleton bikes. The in house restaurant Maggies is the best restaurant we visited in 3 weeks in California. We will definitely be back !Sent from my iPhone

The Desolation Hotel is sublime! It lived up my expectations after a lot of research on the best places to stay in Lake Tahoe and based on all the expert reviews that I had read in advance. Amazing attention to detail across all aspects of the property and the wonderful friendly staff made this a great place to stay. The room aesthetics are fantastic, Maggie’s restaurant is top notch for either a delicious cocktail or a sumptuous meal, and the pool and spa area with the fire pits and the chill vibes were the perfect spot to relax after a day on the slopes. My wife I travelled from Australia to ski in Tahoe. We have travelled all around the world. So glad we chose to stay at Desolation Hotel!

Nothing! Desolation Hotel and their staff are awesome! We arrived late at night due to our flights being delayed, but despite reception being closed, the hotel kept in touch with us and made sure we could access our room without and problems. The service was exceptional.
