    Cons -

    • This experience was awful. I arrived and waited over an hour for a front desk staff member, arrived in my room where there had been a window left open (no screen) that opened up to downtown San Francisco streets this also happened on day two when I rm
    • Rooms were small and I could hear the person in the room next to me snoring.
    • Unprofessional, we had to wait 20 minutes outside in the cold at 11pm, pounding on the door, calling the phone, speaking into the intercom and NOTHING! We thought we would be sleeping on the street when an employee showed up and said he was upstairs....

Best location. Very charming! There's a very nice restuarant and bar on site. Free breakfast. Comfortable quiet room.

Parking was difficult. Housekeeping didn't come until after 3 PM

Hotel employee checked us in and was very welcoming. It is clear that he enjoys working at the University Club and takes a lot of pride in it. He gave us great recommendations. Location was fantastic!

This is a historic building so the room was old and stuffy. I was disappointed at the amount of hair I found in the bathroom when we checked-in. Also you can hear everything from the floor above you; not great for a light sleeper.

Rooms were large. Staff in the bar/restaurants were pleasant. Location was decent.

There was no thermostat in the room! My room was cold and I was informed that there is a space heater in the closet! Huh? Plugged in the heater and fuse blew! Not enough outlets in room. Half of them didn't work either! Room smelled old and musty.

The hotel is like an antique. It is old and well-maintained. Staff there are very helpful and friendly.

    Location and friendly staff

The rooms were older so no individual climate control

    8Verified Hotel GuestPosted on: 2-3-2017

It would have been nice to have a thermostat control in the rooms.

    Quiet.

Perfectly located: safe to walk around at any time of the day, walkable area with access to taxis as well as public transportation, friendly staff. The interior in both the room and common areas is great. The building is historical and absolutely beautiful.

Took me a while to figure out how to turn the ceiling fan, which had a lot of dust on it, off. The breakfast was disappointing with a very few choices. Since my window was facing the road, I could hear the traffic very loudly, which is disturbing, especially at night.

    Never staying again.

Bed and room were gross. Possibly unwashed sheets.

    10MatthewPosted on: 1-15-2026

Breakfast was OK although the slices of bread were rather thick for my liking; the coffee cups and dishes were rather small so would have preferred a larger size for my drink and space to put more than one item of food upon. One big problem - there were no napkins of any sort available; very odd for the UC not to provide them for a meal.

    As above: no napkins.

    location and cleanliness

disturbance from the cable cars running on the roadstairs squeezing because they are all wooden and the noise from them are all heard in the roommay be its something very specific to the room i stayed

    5LourdesPosted on: 10-25-2025

The location was great and considering how old and dated the hotel was it was clean thankfully.

The hotel is OLD and DATED. The staff were barely polite at best and not helpful. No A/C in the room to shut out any noise for light sleepers like me. At $200 a night way overpriced.
