Pros +
- Clean and quiet. Very much enjoyed the decor. Very nice breakfast every morning.
- The location was excellent and the staff was really nice and very helpful.
- Very quiet for its location. Clean as a whistle, & great staff! I waa very glad that they allowed late check in (I got bumped from a flight and arrived super late. Also great location for walks.
Cons -
- Because of the nature of the hotel - almost a bed and breakfast style - I felt I had to be extra quiet in the hallways and in the early morning or evening so as not to disturb the other guests.
- No microwave or fridge. Or vending/ice machines.
- While our room had windows the air didn't circulate very well because the room was at the end of the hallway. It was a little stuffy in the room.

The hotel was in a great location right near Union Square and Chinatown.

I would stay again
I did have a problem! I booked a room (Cornell Hotel) on line (around Feb 11) that did not require payment. When I checked in, I asked at the hotel, and they said they had no record of a charge. I would appreciate your help in refunding the overcharge.
It was romantic and intimate, reminiscent of the charming family hotels in Paris.
Good thing I was not there during a heat wave, there is no air conditioning and no nn matter how nice a fan is, it will never take the place of an air-conditioner.
Location and quaintness. Missed the breakfast so not sure about that but the room for breakfast looked wonderful. The service was excellent. And they arranged a shuttle to take us to the airport. Very nice and right on time.
Our first room was way too small because we're taller people so we upgraded. The second room was much better but if you're a big person and tall I'm not sure this would be the hotel for you.
The French theme of the hotel was very interesting.
Such a cool old hotel. We loved the original elevator & the claw foot tub!
Room smelled like mold where there was visible water damage. Regardless, I generally like my hotel and enjoyed my stay.
There was't a refrigerator in the room .
Ultimately charming , convenient and a bargain. Full breakfast was a luxuary.
surpassed any expectations we had!
Very unique, had an old mansion feel. Great architecture.
Lots of charm, one of the first hotels that I can remember what I saw from the front entrance to my room! No issues with the stay at all.
This hotel is incredibly charming - from the decor to the staff to the overall ambience. I liked much better than I expected.
Liked everything
Much quieter thank I expected given location. Very fun decor.
I think it had a bit of a lasting smoke smell— probably from decades past of guests
The staff working when we checked in and out were great, and the location is great.
Our room was not as clean as we would have liked, which made some of us concerned about just the cleaning of the sheets in general. For example, we found random hairs on the furniture and on the walls in the bathroom. There was an acrylic nail under the curtains, and a dirty sock under one of the beds (which we didn’t see until checkout). Had we seen the sock the first day we perhaps would have been more diligent about letting management know, but seeing it the last day confirmed our earlier worries about cleaning. Our friends were in a different room and they said the shower water was rusty on their last day - they mentioned literally showering in darker water. Prior to checking in I had also called and emailed to confirm that the two rooms I booked could at least be on the same floor (if not next to each other)… of course, they let me know that they couldn’t guarantee it, but that they usually can accommodate such a request. When we checked in, no such communication of our request was giving to the front desk. It was just a bit chaotic and run in a way that didn’t give me much confidence in the stay. I wish it had been better.
The hotel was charming, clean, and conveniently located. The room was a bit small and the elevator was not working when we first arrived, but this is to be expected for an historic building. Nonetheless, we will return whenever we are in the City.
I felt like I was back in Paris! Everything was so easy and wonderful, perfect spot for a wedding near Union Station. I loved the old school elevator as well -- so charming!
I wish I could have stayed longer! I will definitely be back and recommend to others looking for more culture than the standard hotels can provide
