Pros +
- The service was great.
- Cleaning and modern decor
- Modern, good lighting, locket bed.
Cons -
- The room was way too small
- Location and the fact there was no gym
- Insufficient noise isolation from outside, bring ear plugs. Bed was super super firm, which just isn't my preference. Between the noise outside and the firm bed I slept poorly.Everything in the room is electronically controlled which is cool, but the ipad was already about dead throwing battery errors and the dock wouldn't charge it. I imagine I could have gone down to the lobby for an assist on that, but I was too tired to bother.

Location and the fact there was no gym
The check-in was a bit busy as many guests arrived at the same time. However, the staff stayed friendly and professional, which I really appreciated. The room was clean and well maintained. The location is very central, and I always felt safe when going out to the city in the evening. The beds were very comfortable and I slept very well.
Location was convenient. Decor and style is very modern. Hotel staff while checking in was exceptionally nice. Since you couldn't walk around the bed it was nice I could control the blinds with a switch.

The moden, hi tech feel and funky vibe
Getting the elevator at certain times of the day was very challenging... Room was very small for the price
Rooms are clean, and bed of good quality. Quick self-service check-in and check-out process.
Breakfast is industrial and tasteless, really not worth it. The hotel does not feel welcoming. It is simply practical, but for the same price, there are better options around.
Location. Very clean! Smell smells good! Especially, for being in SF definitely appreciated! Very kind and attentive staff!!
The iron barely got hot :( I’m an ironing girly!
Didnt have breakfast - but looked good. Way better than other more expensive hotelsHyper clean and hyper modernGreat pillows and bedsWill be backNothing i didnt like after i understood it
Room was expertly laid out, felt bigger than it was. The bed was very comfortable and the drawers under the bed were handy. Lobby was a great place to work from for the day!
No cups in the room for water. Would have been nice to have one spare pillow in the room. Wish the canteen had at least one healthy snack available for purchase!
Very good location, attentive staff, not noisy, comfortable beds, bar inside the hotel
Central location downtown. The bed itself was comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Price was reasonable. The third-floor lobby had a nice bar and very spacious living-room area to hang out in, and the decor there was less obnoxious than elsewhere in the hotel.
This was not a comfortable stay. Our room was cramped and narrow with a galley-style setup: one person had to climb over another to get in and out of bed. The bathroom was the worst part. It had no privacy. The exterior door was a like a glass shower door with no latch. The sounds from the bathroom echoed throughout the room. There was no luggage rack, nowhere to lay open even one carry on–sized suitcase except a narrow padded sitting bench. There were no water glasses and no facecloths. Furnishings were like the low-end plastic IKEA offerings. The lights, temperature, fan speed, were all controlled by an old-model iPad on the nightstand, which might sound "cool" but in practice is pretty annoying. (The TV was on in the room when we came in, and it took a while to figure out how to turn it off on the iPad). There's juvenile messaging everywhere (the Do Not Disturb hangtag shows a woman covering up with a towel with the text "citizenM says: don’t come in, there’s someone naked in here") the color red is ever-present, there's loud music blaring in the street-level foyer where you wait for the elevator... The aesthetic is puzzling, and there was no thought to comfort in the design. It's not clear what their target audience is, but it clearly wasn't us.
Love the cleanliness and modernity of the space. Check in is so easy, staff is nice, rooms are cute with modular design so they had the same layout in both the LA and SF locations. Room to work in the 3rd floor lobby with a place to get coffee and tea. My go to hotel!
I wish the rooms were a little bigger, but honestly they are so well designed it's not a deal breaker. Still so much better than most hotels in this price range.
Excellent staff and location. No human interference, everything from check in to checkout is digital.Centrally located.
Great location and easy to check in/out. Door man was always polite and happy and helpful.
Shower was always lukewarm - and yes I’m a plumber so know what I’m doing with the button. Dustcarts woke us in the mornings.
This property is absolute gem it’s cozy perfectly themed loved every second since I stepped inside they have great area where you can hangout or work. There is a great bar / canteen and all the staff on property was generous helpful and they stored my luggage before checking as well as after checkout without any cost and let me wait for my flight in lobby for few hours. I was would highly recommend going there and even the location is perfect for the price.
The rooms were fantastic. Loved the design in the rooms and the lobby. The bartender on duty the evening we checked in was great. One of the women on duty the morning was great. Super clean, super comfy. Love the moods. Best blackout blinds I've experienced!
The room controls were a little glitchy and there were no water glasses or coffee maker. My daughter (10yo) couldn't reach the shower heads to control the water. Other than the two mentioned above, other staff in the dining area were rude, unhelpful, or both. "Too cool to be bothered" was how my daughters put it. The check-in was unnecessarily complicated. Breakfast was great but overpriced. No coffee - I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel that had no complimentary coffee in either the room or the lobby. We felt ripped off by the food services.
We had a very pleasant stay at citizenM. The hotel is in a convenient location in Union Square and was a great hub for us during our trip. While the room is a little on the small side, the common areas are very large and comfortable and we spent a lot of time hanging out there - they are decked out with lots of lounges, chairs, books and games. The staff were very welcoming and helpful with answering any questions.
The trendy design was great, the room was small, the staff was a bit condescending
The carpet
