Casa Via Mar Inn, an Ascend Collection Hotel

Pros +

• Coffee in lobby
• The pool was the amenity that saved this place for me and my partner. The location was near many local resturants and a shopping center. Not too far from bigger cities like Ventura and Oxnard. Very close to the beach.
• Big room, comfortable beds, good vanity area with a mirror for getting ready, easy check-in.

Cons -

• Smell
• The room smelled like moisture and damp; it had a very humid feel. The sink water smelled rotten, like hard water. The floor was so dirty we could not walk barefoot without our feet getting so dirty. The sheets had stains on them. The showers and bathroom looked like poorly renovated restrooms that needed recaulking. It was never clear if the hotel ever served breakfast, as they had devices to make breakfast (juice bar and waffle maker), but we never saw breakfast being served. The TV was not a smart TV, so to watch our streaming services, we had to buy an HDMI cord to hook it onto our laptop to watch better TV. There was also a part of the floor missing. Train runs next to the hotel so it can be very noisy at night. Upstairs neighbors were also very loud.
