Terrific location in Lapad. There was always something going on outside. Very vibrant (but not annoyingly so), tons of places to eat and hang out, a 3 minute walk to the beach, 3 minute walk to the bus stop that takes you to the Old City in 7 minutes.

Top Tips
- Book hotels 3-6 months in advance for peak season (June-September) to access a wider selection and rates typically 15-40% lower than last-minute pricing. Early booking is important, as top neighborhoods fill quickly during this time.
- Choose hotels in Lapad or Babin Kuk for lower noise and resort-style amenities, including pools and family facilities. These neighborhoods connect to the Old Town in 10-15 minutes by bus, making them suitable for families or travelers wanting quieter evenings.
- Pre-book Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) transfers for efficient arrival. The airport is 15-25 km from the Old Town, with typical taxi fares €30-€50 (approx. $32-$54 USD) for the 30-45 minute ride. Confirm if your hotel offers a shuttle or transfer service.
- If driving, reserve hotel parking in advance, as Old Town hotels are within pedestrian-only areas. Paid public parking across Dubrovnik is limited; confirm current rates and availability directly with your hotel before arrival.
- All guests must show a valid passport or EU/Schengen national ID card at check-in as required by Croatian law. Confirm identification requirements before travel, especially when traveling with minors.
- Croatia requires a tourist tax of €1-€2 (approx. $1-$2 USD) per person, per night. Check if this tax is included in your booking or paid separately at check-out, especially when booking at international hotel chains.
- Select hotels with air conditioning for summer visits, as daytime temperatures often exceed 32°C (90°F). If you need reliable Wi-Fi, confirm both speed and coverage directly with your chosen hotel.
- Travelers with large or heavy luggage staying in the Old Town should confirm if porter service or designated meeting points are offered, as vehicles are not allowed on pedestrian streets. Request these services during booking for convenience.
- Take airport buses or seasonal shuttles from DBV to the Old Town or Gruž bus station for lower costs than taxis. When using taxis, confirm the fare in advance or request the meter to avoid unexpected charges.
- Croatia observes quiet hours from 22:00 to 7:00; respect local customs in hotel and residential areas. When visiting churches, cover shoulders and knees for cultural respect.
- Tipping is appreciated but not required: round up at cafés, give 10% for restaurant service, and €1-€2 (approx. $1-$2 USD) per bag for porters or per day for housekeeping. Carry small bills to simplify tipping.
- Due to many stairs and uneven cobblestones, travelers with mobility needs should request accessible rooms (ground floor, elevator, or step-free access) or book hotels in Lapad or Gruž for easier entry.
- Choose flexible cancellation policies as Dubrovnik sees high seasonal demand and potential disruptions. Add travel insurance if your plans may change unexpectedly.
- Expect crowds in the Old Town during midday; visit major attractions before 09:00 or after 18:00 for a quieter experience. Keep valuables secure in busy areas to reduce the risk of petty theft.
- Croatia uses the Euro (€) for all hotel and tourism transactions. Pharmacies and hospitals are open daily in Dubrovnik; carry essential medications and confirm travel insurance coverage before travel.
- Ask hotel staff for recommendations on restaurants, less-crowded beaches, or organized trips to islands like Lokrum or the Elafiti Islands. Many hotels offer their own excursion or tour desks.
- Visit main attractions outside peak cruise ship hours (typically 11:00-16:00) to avoid congestion in the Old Town. Early morning or evening sightseeing also offers cooler temperatures.
- Request late check-out or early breakfast with hotel staff at arrival, as availability often depends on occupancy that day. Check specific room availability for late check-out in advance if needed.
- At check-in, confirm if airport transfer is available, whether tourist tax and parking fees are included, and the breakfast schedule. Verifying these details can optimize your stay and avoid unexpected charges.
- Families often prefer hotels in Lapad or Babin Kuk offering pools and multi-bed rooms; business travelers should confirm high-speed Wi-Fi and inquire about quiet workspaces or lounges.
- Pack comfortable walking shoes to navigate Dubrovnik’s cobbled streets, steep stairs, and city walls. Some Old Town routes have over 100 stairs in a single segment.
- Read recent guest reviews, focusing on staff assistance, cleanliness, and overall satisfaction, to help identify properties with consistently strong feedback.
