Location was great! Note, this hotel is connected to a casino. Not a bad thing, as the casino is small.

Great location!
We've been coming to this hotel for years it has deteriorated somewhat on the outside the mostly the area where people sit outside the fence is broken down it would be very easy for a child to slip down the hill.

Top Tips
- Book accommodations early for peak demand periods, especially from Memorial Day to Labor Day and on holiday weekends. Room and car rental inventory in Crescent City fills quickly during Redwood park season, so reserve 4 to 8 weeks in advance for greater choice and better rates. Major hotels include Best Western and Holiday Inn Express.
- Confirm airport transport and car rental availability before arrival. Crescent City–Del Norte County Airport (Jack McNamara Field) has limited taxis and usually no rideshare options. Pre-book a rental car with Hertz, Enterprise, or National; redwood parks are over 10 mi (16 km) from the airport.
- Check hotel reviews for Wi-Fi speed and workspace details. Properties like Best Western and Holiday Inn Express typically offer faster Wi-Fi and dedicated business centers. Confirm if you require a reliable connection for work or request a room with a desk.
- Confirm free parking when booking, especially for vehicles over 20 ft long or those needing accessible spaces. Most hotels include standard parking, and some, such as Best Western, support RV parking. Verify options for both large vehicles and accessible parking needs at reservation.
- Inquire about flexible cancellation policies and check-in/out times directly with the hotel's front desk or mobile app. Larger chains more often offer early check-in and luggage storage for flights arriving before official check-in.
- Request a full cost breakdown before booking, as California state sales tax and a local transient occupancy tax (typically 10-12%) will be added to the room rate. Taxes appear as line items at checkout; ask for an itemized quote in advance.
- Pack layers and waterproof outerwear for Crescent City's cool, foggy, and rainy climate, even in summer. Explore coastal trails and redwood parks with sturdy shoes. If you forget gear, rain jackets and footwear are available in local shops and some hotel gift stores.
- Familiarize yourself with tsunami evacuation routes posted in hotel rooms. For added peace-of-mind, consider requesting an inland-facing or upper-floor room, as Crescent City is in a tsunami zone and sirens are tested regularly.
- Use wildlife-proof trash cans and avoid leaving food in cars or outdoors, as local raccoons and birds are common. Ask the hotel front desk for safe beach access points since cold water and strong rip currents can make ocean swimming dangerous.
- Tip hotel staff according to U.S. norms, such as $2-5 per bag for bellhops or porters and $2-5 per night for housekeeping. Review in-room tipping guidelines or check the hotel's digital compendium for current recommendations.
- Ask the front desk for advice on local natural attractions. Staff can provide specific tide times for Battery Point Lighthouse access, best hours and parking for Jedediah Smith Redwoods, and may have flyers or partnerships with local tour operators.
- Confirm pet policies and fees before booking; major chains like Best Western and Motel 6 offer pet-friendly rooms with typical fees or deposits. Space and breed restrictions may apply, so verify details in advance.
- Download offline maps before arrival, as mobile coverage is spotty in park areas. Hotel receptions often provide printed directions to local hiking trails and park entrances if needed.
- For family travelers, request amenities like cribs, pack-n-plays, connecting rooms, or in-room fridges and microwaves. Area hotels, including Holiday Inn Express, may also offer free breakfast, indoor pools, and self-service laundry. Confirm availability at booking for best results.
- Choose well-reviewed hotels near downtown or main streets for added safety when traveling solo. Features like 24-hour front desk staff and in-room safes offer extra security for valuables.
- Check seasonal dining and amenity hours with hotel staff, as some restaurants, tours, and visitor centers may have reduced operations outside peak season. Ask for a current list of open restaurants and grocery stores, especially around holidays or late hours.
- Verify accessibility and health-related needs with the hotel directly. Ask about accessible room availability, step-free entries, elevators, or specific cleaning standards. Major brands often guarantee accessible rooms but request these at booking to secure preferences.
- Use your hotel as a base for local experiences like redwood hikes or lighthouse visits. Some properties provide activity booking services, event flyers, or discounts for area attractions and local seafood restaurants.
- Store valuables in in-room safes and avoid leaving items visible in parked cars to reduce risk of petty theft. Many branded hotels also offer secured parking - ask about additional security at check-in.
- Check with the hotel about ocean-view upgrade and inland-facing room options when staying near the coast. Ocean-facing rooms often have scenic views but may be louder due to wind and sea sounds, while inland rooms tend to be quieter.
