The hotel was close to Fatima and the bus station. It was clean and comfortable. We loved sitting out on the balcony and people-watching in the evening. Alain was friendly and we were able to store our suitcases until check-in time.

The ratings are for Hotel Santa Maria. When we arrived in Fatima and to Hotel Sao Jose a note on the front door indicated that they were temporarily closed. The note indicated that we should go to Hotel Santa Maria where we had no trouble checking in.

Top Tips
- Book your Fátima hotel 3 to 6 months in advance for peak pilgrimage dates (May 13 and October 13), as high demand and non-refundable rates are common. For regular weekends, reserve your room 4 to 8 weeks ahead to avoid limited selection. Check if top hotels offer flexible cancellation if booked early, and note that Portuguese holidays can also increase demand around these dates.
- Select a hotel within 800 meters (about a 10-minute walk) of the Sanctuary of Fátima to reduce late-night walking and avoid relying on limited transport after processions. Many hotels in this area offer 24-hour reception, enhanced security, and step-free access or elevators; request wayfinding maps in your language at reception if needed.
- Expect candlelight procession noise from April to October, with events often continuing until 22:00 or 23:00. Request a room facing away from the sanctuary or with double-glazed windows for extra quiet; tell the staff about sensitive sleep needs at check-in, and ask if earplugs are available at reception.
- Use scheduled intercity buses (Rede Expressos or FlixBus) from Lisbon or Porto for consistent journey times and fares, typically €10-€20 one way. Buses arrive at Fátima's main terminal, less than 1 km from most hotels; many hotels can arrange taxi pick-up from the terminal or provide transfer details if requested. Check online for current bus schedules, especially during national holidays.
- If departing early, ask your hotel about boxed or early breakfast, as many serve from 05:00 or prepare a packed meal when requested at least one day ahead. Confirm any extra charges and collection points upon check-in. Specify dietary needs during booking for group tours or if you require vegetarian or allergy-friendly options.
- Pay in EUR at checkout to avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) markups. Choose EUR if the payment terminal asks for a currency, since paying in your card’s home currency can trigger extra foreign exchange fees. Reputable hotels display total charges in advance; request printed receipts for clarity.
- Reserve accessible rooms and request mobility assistance at least 4 weeks before arrival. The Sanctuary and major hotels have step-free access and elevators, but accessible rooms and aids are limited. Confirm your accessibility needs, such as visual alarms or adapted bathrooms, in writing before travel, as staff training in accessibility support may vary.
- Check luggage storage or late check-out options with your hotel before arrival, especially if departure overlaps with major events. Most hotels offer secure storage free or for a small fee; ask about cutoff times during busy periods. Inquire if refrigerated space is available for medication or if post-checkout washrooms or changing areas can be accessed onsite.
