The location was amazing! I LOVED walking through the jungle! It is large enough that you can be away from the crowds or you can hang out in The Plaza and listen to the music.
The best of this resort was 1.) food quality and variety 2.) customer service 3.) cleanliness. We are vegetarians and most definitely found few vegan vegetarian options in all restaurants. Each building has its own ambassador for that building guests!!!
I loved how every villa had a pool

The resort offered several activities on the beach. The service on the beach was consistent and super friendly. The U Spa was one of the best massages I have had by far. I do think it is a great resort for children and teenagers which were everywhere.

For being the older hotel it was very clean. The price was great a block and a half from fifth Avenue can¿t beat that when you¿re just wanting to hang out on the Avenue. Just remember that this is a old place and it¿s bathrooms are not updated but don¿t
Clean, good size rooms with friendly staff. Close to the main strip but far enough away that noise is not an issue. Free parking. Free breakfast, although selection is very limited, but it is free! Overall good value.

The staff at this hotel is excellent and always tries to help. The rooms are clean and well cared for.
Room 3 on the ground floor had very old bedding and one of the mattresses was very old, it was saggy on the edge. Urgent update needed, it is meant to be a room for 3 people but I was there with one more person and it was tight
This hotel had a good location but did not have the room I purchased available. I did not stay there.

The beach patio at night, the breakfast and the hammocks.
Homey Feel with a small beach on water. Great views. Definitely boutique. Was able to assist in areas such as a taxi.
The hotel was in a great location, next to the beach, but off of busy 5th avenue. The room was clean. The balcony was a great place to relax and watch the sunrise or the waves of the ocean.

Friendly, helpful staff. Good English.
Complimentary breakfast and free beer and wine from 12-6 was great too. The beds were nice too.
Adult environment. Chill rooftop atmosphere during the day. Felt very safe in the evenings bc they lock the areas where the rooms are so you know only ppl who are staying in the hotel are allowed there.

A lot of great things to say about this hotel. Really like the security gate. When I checked in my room was ready. I had a huge room. Walmart is right up the street. So if you travel on the cheap like me this is wonderful. Full fridge in my room was nice.

Where to stay in Riviera Maya
Learn about the top neighbourhoods of Riviera Maya
One of the Riviera Maya's top shopping destinations, Playa del Carmen has its own Fifth Avenue. Here it's called Quinta Avenida, and it's a pedestrian-only strip lined with souvenir shops, laid-back bars and tree-shaded restaurants. At night it has a street-party atmosphere. The beaches here are stunning, with wide swaths of sand disappearing into the azure waters. If you're headed to Cozumel, you can catch the frequent ferries in Playa del Carmen. Cancun International Airport is 35 miles north.
On the southern coast of the Riviera Maya, this resort area sits on a crescent-shaped bay. Akumal began as a retreat for snorkelers and scuba divers, and still draws many visitors intent on seeing the underwater world. Nature lovers head to the nearby Centro Ecologico Akumal, which protects endangered green sea turtles. To the south is nearby Tulum, home to one of the area's most spectacular Mayan sites.
About 20 miles from Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos shares a lot with its better-known neighbors, including miles of beautiful beaches. What this former fishing village in the northern section of the Riviera Maya doesn't have is the crowds. Smaller kids especially love the spider monkeys at the Crococun Zoo, while their older siblings and grown-ups might prefer snorkeling or scuba diving in the crystalline waters of Parque Nacional Arrecife Puerto Morelos.

Top Tips
- Book Riviera Maya hotels 3 to 6 months ahead for high season (December-April) to avoid 20-50% price surges, especially at properties such as Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen or Iberostar. Many major resorts run early booking promotions during these months; check direct hotel sites for advance deals.
- Expect 16% VAT and a 5% hotel occupancy tax added to room rates. All-inclusive options often group these for 10-15% savings versus à la carte at Tulum resorts such as Dreams Tulum. Always confirm if taxes and fees are included at booking.
- Hotels in Playa del Carmen typically offer 20-30% lower nightly rates than Tulum and provide better-lit public spaces, which can reduce petty theft risks. Look for chains along Quinta Avenida and choose properties with 24-hour security for added peace of mind.
- Request step-free access in advance, as around 70-80% of large resorts (such as Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya) offer accessible rooms and ramp access. Email your hotel at least 2 to 4 weeks prior to confirm features such as elevator proximity or visual alarms.
- Use in-room safes to secure valuables; timeshare sales pitches often occur in lobbies or club areas, with pricing 10-20% higher than advertised. Report any unsolicited offers to the front desk or hotel security promptly.
- Choose EarthCheck-certified hotels, such as Barcelo Maya or select eco-resorts in Xpu-Ha, where rainwater harvesting reduces water use by 30-40% in the March-May dry season, supporting Riviera Maya’s environmental regulations.
- Withdraw pesos at bank-affiliated ATMs outside hotel grounds. Rates from street ATMs in Playa del Carmen can save 20-30% on fees compared to in-hotel machines, but always check for official bank logos and cover your PIN when entering it.
- If you need stable connectivity for remote work, check Wi-Fi speeds before booking, as most resorts provide 20-50 Mbps but speeds may dip during evening peaks in high-occupancy hotels. Inquire about premium or dedicated Wi-Fi plans if reliable internet is critical for your stay.
- Standard tipping at local restaurants is 10-15%. In all-inclusive resorts such as those managed by Aventura or Palladium, tip staff directly in pesos for transparent distribution, since pooled tip practices can differ by property.
