Top Tips
- Book waterfront rooms at The Dock House Inn 60 or more days in advance; rates can increase by up to 30% within 30 days of arrival, especially during peak season (April-August). For early access to deals, consider signing up for the hotel’s loyalty program.
- At golf resorts like Litchfield Beach & Golf, confirm what the nightly resort fee of $25-$35 covers - this often includes Wi-Fi, parking, and pool access. Some properties may waive fees for members; ask when booking or at check-in for transparency.
- When staying at historic B&Bs like Mansfield Plantation, request a ground-floor room if you have mobility needs - over 70% of pre-1800 properties lack elevators and may have steep stairs. If step-free access or visual alarms are required, contact the property directly.
- Midweek stays (Sunday-Thursday) at chain hotels like Hampton Inn offer 20-40% lower rates, as weekend demand from Charleston visitors spikes prices. Explore Georgetown’s museums and quieter waterfront during these calmer days.
- If working remotely, ask hotels for recent Wi-Fi speed tests; downtown options usually have 15-50 Mbps, but rural spots near Andrews often fall below 10 Mbps. Confirm whether high-speed internet is available in private rooms or only in public spaces.
- During hurricane season (September-October), review hotel cancellation terms carefully; coastal hotels may require nonrefundable deposits, but inland properties like Quality Inn are often more flexible. Ask about weather-related cancellation or rebooking policies, and monitor local forecasts before traveling.
- From June to August, harbor-view rooms near the Steel Plant may have freight ship noise from 3-5 AM. For a quieter rest, request a courtyard-facing room at The Carroll House, or inquire if sound dampening or earplugs are available.
- Parking at Harborwalk hotels costs $18-$25 per day, but a free trolley serves downtown every 20 minutes. Check if the shuttle is accessible for strollers or mobility devices, and verify stop locations near your planned activities.
- Select B&Bs like Hopsewee Plantation offer Gullah cultural packages with tours and meals - bundling can save $15-$25 over buying separately. Respect local customs and take the chance to learn about Gullah traditions directly from resident guides.
- In older motels along Hwy 17, window AC units can be noisy; use a smartphone app to check if sound exceeds 50 decibels. If it does, request a quieter unit or ask if white noise machines or modern alternatives are available.
