Good location...near metro line, Yu Graden and not far from the Bund
Good location, near the metro and market. Walkable to the Bund. Free bottled water which basically saved our lives cause it was so hot when we visited. Helpful staff, great bar/restaurant next door. Great overall experience.

Location and staff
Everything is good except the bad smell from the drainage in the bathroom. Great location, comfy and big bed, large room, good view, good lighting system.... Just the smell that let it down.

While the location was not next to the airport, there was a free shuttle to and from the airport regularly, so you donâ≢t need a taxi, which was especially welcome when traveling with a lot of luggage. The breakfast buffet was good. Nice rooms.

Top Tips
- Major hotels in Shanghai require passport registration at check-in due to Public Security rules. Upscale chains process this in under 5 minutes and can assist with temporary residence forms for extended stays. Request privacy at the front desk if you prefer discreet personal data handling.
- Book hotels within a 10-15 minute walk of Metro Line 2 for single-line service to Pudong Airport and Lujiazui business district. Major chains near Nanjing Road or Jing'an Temple help you avoid traffic congestion and can save up to 60 minutes at peak times.
- Set up and test a VPN before your trip, as hotel Wi-Fi, including at top chains, remains subject to China's blocks on Google, Gmail, and WhatsApp. If your VPN does not work, contact hotel IT for guidance, but national filtering will still apply.
- Pay in RMB onsite to avoid dynamic currency conversion markups (0.5-3%). Notify your card issuer of your China travel dates. Most major hotels accept foreign credit cards, but carry some CNY cash for taxis or small shops.
- WeChat Pay and Alipay are standard at shops and hotels. At major chains, staff can help link your international card during check-in. If mobile payment is not working, you can usually charge restaurant or other extras to your room and settle by card or CNY cash at checkout.
- Tap water is not recommended for drinking in Shanghai. Major hotels provide complimentary bottled or filtered water, with daily restocking, and some offer glass bottle refill stations for guests focused on sustainability.
- Many French Concession guesthouses have narrow stairs without elevators. If you need step-free access, request a ground-floor room. Leading hotel chains in Shanghai have elevators and accessible rooms with ramp access; confirm your needs when booking.
- Upscale hotels typically add a 10-15% service charge to bills. Tipping is not expected or required anywhere in Shanghai, and service charges are itemized on your bill, so there is no need to leave extra cash.
- During National Day (Oct 1 week), Spring Festival, and major events like CIIE, hotel rates can rise 30-100%. Book your preferred chain 2-6 or more weeks in advance; loyalty program members may access priority reservation windows.
- International chains such as Marriott, Hilton, and InterContinental have English-speaking front desks and provide itemized, VAT-style receipts for expense claims. Written confirmations and 24-hour English support are standard at these locations.
