This is an old historic hotel with unique features. Guests who visit here should appreciate the age of the building and how well it has been maintained over its 93 years. It has updated conveniences, but can’t compete with newer hotels. Beds comfortable

Staff were great. The view was fantastic from the room, very scenic. Restaurant available at the hotel.Location is outside of main Digby area, a little more quiet which is excellent. Only about 5 minutes from Main Street and restaurants. Would stay again.

The view is beyond compare. I actually woke up early just to see the sunrise from our window

I loved the view from the room, being able to sit outside (as apposed to a hotel where your room is the only place to relax) and the discount on the breakfast.

Frequently Asked Questions

What taxes and mandatory charges should I expect on a Digby hotel bill?

Nova Scotia Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) at 15% applies to accommodation charges. Some properties may also add mandatory fees, such as resort or parking charges; always check the property's invoice before booking for full details.

What are the typical hotel check-in and check-out times in Digby?

Most hotels in Digby have check-in starting around 3:00 PM and check-out by 11:00 AM. Small inns and B&Bs often allow late arrivals, especially for ferry passengers, but early check-in or late check-out is usually subject to availability or an added fee.

When is peak season in Digby and which events most affect availability?

Peak season in Digby is primarily summer (July-August). The Digby Scallop Days festival, usually in late July, significantly increases demand and local occupancy for that weekend. Ferry and holiday weekends from May to October also raise demand.

Does the Digby–Saint John ferry affect hotel availability or scheduling?

Yes, the Bay Ferries Digby–Saint John service operates seasonally (typically May-October). Sailings, especially on weekends, increase hotel demand and lead to more late check-in requests.

How do hotel locations within Digby differ for walkability, parking, and noise?

Waterfront and downtown hotels are within a 5-10 minute walk of the Wharf and Ferry Terminal, making it easy to reach restaurants and the ferry on foot. Motels near Hwy 101 prioritize free parking and quick car access but are a short drive from downtown.

What are payment, deposit, and currency norms for Digby hotels?

Prices are listed in Canadian dollars (CAD). Credit cards are widely accepted; many properties pre-authorize a card (usually about one night's cost) or require full prepayment for non-refundable rates. Decline dynamic currency conversion (DCC) at checkout to avoid extra fees.

Are Digby hotels pet-friendly, and what fees should I expect?

Several Digby inns, B&Bs, and motels offer pet-friendly rooms. Where allowed, nightly pet fees in Atlantic Canada typically range from approximately $15–$27 USD (CAD 20–35) per night. Always check the property's policy for size and breed restrictions.

Can I reliably work remotely from a Digby hotel (Wi-Fi, quiet spaces, power)?

Connectivity varies across rural and coastal Nova Scotia hotels. Larger properties may list business amenities, but many small inns do not specify Wi-Fi speeds. Verify upload and download speeds with the property before booking if reliable remote work is essential.

How common are accessible rooms, elevators, and accessible bathrooms in Digby hotels?

Many older inns and motels in small Nova Scotia towns may not have elevators and can require entry via steps. Confirm the presence of accessible features, such as step-free entry, directly with the property before booking.

Are refundable rates common, and how much cheaper are non-refundable options in Digby hotels?

Refundable and flexible rates are widely offered by many Digby hotels, though non-refundable or advance-purchase rates are also available. Non-refundable rates are usually lower, but the exact price difference varies by property and season.

What is the typical nightly rate for a mid-range hotel in Digby during peak season?

Nightly rates for mid-range hotels in Digby can rise by 50-80% over off-peak months during peak summer (June-August). For example, a room costing $65–$87 USD (approx. CAD 90–120) off-peak may increase to $98–$146 USD (approx. CAD 135–200) during festivals like Digby Scallop Days.

How reliable is hotel Wi-Fi in Digby for remote work?

Hotel Wi-Fi in Digby generally provides median speeds of 20-50 Mbps, suitable for video calls. Speeds may fall below 10 Mbps during peak evening hours, especially in rural areas, so remote work may be less reliable than in major cities.

Are there any safety concerns specific to hotel areas in Digby?

Lodging areas in Digby, including those near the ferry terminal, have low crime rates (fewer than 1 incident per 1,000 residents annually). Travelers should secure valuables in parking lots during busy ferry seasons, but lodging-specific scams are not commonly reported.

How do weather events impact hotel availability and pricing in Digby?

Hotel occupancy in Digby can spike by 40-60% during summer fog events or storms, which may delay ferry services and drive rates up by $15–$24 USD (CAD 20–32) per night. Rooms can sell out 2-3 days in advance during these periods due to the coastal location.

What is the standard check-in window for Digby hotels?

Most hotels in Digby enforce check-in from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Early check-in (before 2:00 PM) is available at 30-50% of properties, usually for a fee of $15–$24 USD (CAD 20–32) or based on availability, especially during high summer demand linked to ferry arrivals.

Top Tips

  • Confirm the final hotel rate includes Nova Scotia’s 15% HST, which is often added at checkout. Major hotels usually display this tax separately; check your booking summary or ask at the front desk to avoid surprises.
  • Plan your arrival considering the Digby–Saint John MV Fundy Rose ferry, which takes about 3 hours. If your ferry lands outside regular hotel check-in hours, contact the hotel in advance to arrange for early luggage storage or late check-in.
  • Tide times in the Bay of Fundy can vary by over 10 meters, affecting waterfront views and tours. For the most scenic experience, ask hotel staff for daily tide times or recommendations for accessible harbor tours.
  • If you prefer a quieter environment or are sensitive to seafood odors from Digby’s scallop fishery, request a room on a higher floor or not facing the harbor. Some hotels offer soundproofed rooms; ask about options during booking.
  • Waterfront hotels in Digby fill up 4-8 weeks ahead during peak summer weekends and for events like Digby Scallop Days. Lock in your preferred room early, and check for flexible booking or loyalty perks if offered by your hotel of choice.
  • LTE coverage is strong in central Digby but may drop on Digby Neck and Long Island. Download offline maps, or request printed directions or Wi-Fi access details from your hotel before exploring rural areas.
  • Waterfront hotels often provide free onsite parking, though spaces can be limited and may have size restrictions. Reserve your parking spot in advance if arriving with a large or accessible vehicle, and confirm with your hotel before your stay.
  • Most Digby restaurants close by 21:00 (9 PM) outside peak season. For later meals, check on-property dining hours with your hotel or reserve a table early during popular festivals.
