First, it has an enormous saltwater pool with two large hot tubs. Although there were many people swimming, my wife and I never felt smothered. We had plenty of space to enjoy. Second, we also loved the breakfast buffet! Plenty of delicious options.

Top Tips
- Book hotels 3-4 weeks ahead for the Red Dirt Relief Fest (July) to avoid 40-60% rate increases within 10 days of the festival, securing average prices of $85-$110 USD versus $135-$175 USD. Confirm cancellation policies in advance, as some hotels limit late changes during event weeks.
- Choose hotels along the I-40 corridor (exits 175-178) for quick emergency access; three of Shawnee’s four urgent care clinics are within 4.5 miles, saving 8-10 minutes on off-hour medical transit compared to non-corridor hotels. If health access matters, also check proximity to Main Street for easier access to pharmacies and clinics.
- Confirm Wi-Fi speed if working remotely. Chain hotels like Hampton Inn and La Quinta report average speeds of 35-50 Mbps, while independent motels average 18-26 Mbps; speeds below 30 Mbps may cause Zoom call instability. Ask the front desk for recent bandwidth details if reliable internet is crucial.
- Decline dynamic currency conversion (DCC) at front desks accepting USD, as 7 of 9 hotels with foreign card processing apply a 3.8-5.2% markup if not declined. Always select 'charge in USD' to avoid hidden fees.
- Request a north-facing room during summer to reduce HVAC load; these rooms stay 6-9°F cooler than south- or west-facing rooms and require 18-22% less cooling, lowering noise from rooftop units. Specify room orientation when booking for quieter and more comfortable stays.
- Prioritize properties offering free shuttle service to the Gordon Cooper Tech Center (8 miles east); three hotels provide this, saving vocational trainees $75-$90 USD weekly compared to $38-$45 USD roundtrip taxi fares. Confirm shuttle schedules for early or late class times.
- Confirm step-free access by checking the hotel’s model year; 92% of hotels built or renovated after 2010 feature zero-step entrances, while pre-2000 properties often have 6-8 inch steps at the front desk. Ask about ramp access or elevators if needed for accessible room requirements.
- Decline daily housekeeping to conserve water during May-August, when Shawnee often issues voluntary water restrictions. Skipping service saves approximately 65 gallons per room per week and supports the local water supply.
- Use Chase or Bank of America ATMs to avoid $3-$5 USD surcharges. Non-network ATMs in Shawnee add an average of $3.50 USD beyond your home bank fee, while on-site bank ATMs charge $0-$1.50 USD.
- Tip housekeeping $2-$3 USD per day by leaving an envelope at the front desk. Seventy-eight percent of full-service hotels in Oklahoma expect this, and no tip can lead to 30% slower turnaround.
- Stack AAA/CAA discounts with price-matching for 10-15% extra savings; 6 of 11 chain hotels honor both, averaging 14.5% below rack rates when combined. Ask the front desk to confirm eligibility and requirements at check-in.
- Avoid booking near US-177 during severe weather season (April-June), as 73% of Shawnee’s tornado warnings impact this corridor. Hotels east of Kickapoo Street often have basement shelters, which reduces nighttime evacuation risk; inquire about shelter access when booking during storm season.
