It's location for being easy to find.
The room was clean and quite adequate for a short stay. The "grab and go" breakfast was superior to what many other places are providing -- we've seen worse on airplanes.

The cleanliness of this hotel is great. It is always one of the cleanest I’ve ever stayed.
Beds are too hard and we pay a lot of money for it. Also additional the incidental costs more $50 or more unfair act because it takes 5 to 7 business days why

Top Tips
- Book hotels 2-3 months in advance for the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial (late July to early August) and Navajo Nation Fair (early September), as room rates typically rise by 20-30% during these major events. Reserve early to secure availability and avoid significant price increases, especially at well-known hotel chains or family-friendly properties.
- Include Gallup's total hotel tax rate of 13.3125% (7.875% state plus 5.4375% local) when comparing rates. To avoid surprise charges, verify your complete booking cost with taxes included at final checkout.
- Hotels on or near Interstate 40 or along Highway 491 offer scenic high desert views and fast access to dining and chain amenities. Request an upper-floor room where available to maximize natural landscape visibility.
- Expect day-to-night temperatures to change by up to 30°F (16°C), even in summer, so pack layers and confirm the hotel room's heating and cooling systems are functioning. This helps you stay comfortable through Gallup's temperature swings.
- Support the local economy by booking at local or Native American-owned hotels, such as the Navajo-owned Quality Inn & Suites. Ask at check-in if cultural experiences or artisan markets are offered during your stay.
- Call 48-72 hours before arrival to confirm roll-in showers, grab bars, or other accessible room features, as older motels may offer limited accessibility. Major hotel brands often provide step-free access or visual alarms by request.
- Choose national chains like Hampton or Holiday Inn Express for business-grade Wi-Fi and work desks, which are helpful for remote work. Test the connection speed on arrival if you rely on steady video calls.
- Mobile coverage often weakens on roads into the Navajo Nation or remote parks outside Gallup. Download offline maps and save hotel confirmations as PDFs ahead of travel beyond city limits.
- Staying at a hotel 0.2-1.0 miles from the Amtrak station keeps transfers to about 5-20 minutes on foot and minimizes taxi expense. Ask if your hotel provides a courtesy shuttle or luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures.
- Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) is the nearest major airport, about 140 miles and a 2.25-2.5 hour drive from Gallup via I-40. Most travelers rent a car at ABQ for local transport; compare deals in advance for savings.
