Cleaniness and staff
Super clean Front desk was great customer service
The hotel was very clean. That was the biggest thing preventing me from giving it less of a rating. Pool was too cold as it wasn't heated, front desk guy was rude, but manager was helpful.

It was an awful stay. Kids next door were running around and screaming from 1-4am. Called front desk, no one answered. The hallways smelt like it was a party with people smoking cigarettes & marijuana. It was terrible, I did not get one ounce of sleep!!

Top Tips
- Reserve your hotel room at least 2-3 weeks before travel, or as soon as your dates are confirmed, especially near major Rutgers events like graduation, football games, or State Theatre shows. Rates often increase by 20% or more within 10 days of high-demand dates in New Brunswick.
- Check the final nightly price before booking, as New Jersey hotels add a 6.625% state sales tax and a 3-6% local occupancy fee to the base rate. Review your booking confirmation to confirm all taxes and surcharges are included.
- Confirm parking status since many downtown hotels only offer paid garage parking or valet, usually $15 to $30 per night. Ask about wheelchair-accessible parking if you need step-free access.
- Hotels within 0.5 miles of NJ Transit New Brunswick Station, especially along George Street, offer easy access to NYC, Newark Airport, and Rutgers University by train. Save up to 30 minutes per trip by booking nearby.
- Bring a government-issued photo ID and the credit card used for your reservation, as most New Jersey hotels require both to process check-in and a refundable incidental hold, usually $50-100 per stay.
- Standard check-in usually begins at 3:00 PM, with check-out by 11:00 AM. Request early check-in or late check-out in advance, as some chains may waive fees for members of hotel loyalty programs.
- If traveling for work, confirm with your hotel that high-speed Wi-Fi, business center, and printing services are available. Most properties offer complimentary or paid internet with speeds exceeding 10 Mbps.
- Most New Brunswick hotels are 100% smoke-free indoors and may charge $200 or more cleaning fees for violations. If traveling with pets, confirm the pet policy and request a room with step-free or ground-floor access if needed.
- Plan to tip $1-2 per bag for bell service, $2-5 per day for housekeeping (leave daily), and $2-5 for each valet car return. Tipping in $1 bills is standard.
- Keep valuables such as passports, electronics, and extra cash in your room safe or request storage at the front desk. While downtown New Brunswick is generally safe, always use urban security precautions after 22:00.
- Most hotels in New Brunswick do not operate airport shuttles. Arrange your transit in advance: NJ Transit trains run direct to Newark Liberty International or use a rideshare for journeys of 25-35 minutes depending on traffic.
- Some downtown hotels offer complimentary shuttles to major Rutgers facilities, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, or local corporate offices. Confirm availability and shuttle hours when booking, as schedules may vary on weekends.
- Request accessible rooms or features, such as step-free access, visual alarms, roll-in showers, or accessible parking spaces, at least one week in advance, and confirm in writing that your needs will be met before arrival.
- If sensitive to noise, book a room above the fifth floor or away from George Street, where nightlife and busy restaurants can produce elevated sound levels until after midnight on weekends.
- Popular restaurants within 0.2 miles of the State Theatre and Rutgers campus fill quickly before events. Reserve tables at least 2 to 3 days ahead for Saturday nights or show evenings.
- Keep emergency numbers and the hotel front desk phone handy. Find nearby hospital information such as Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (1 Robert Wood Johnson Pl, +1 732-828-3000) and NJ Transit schedules through the NJ Transit app or website.
- Ask if your hotel offers hospital or university visitor discounts. Many New Brunswick hotels provide special rates for Rutgers guests and hospital patients' families, so confirm these by phone or when booking.
