The staff, best people ever always so friendly I will come back
Accommodating front desk staff at check in, and owners were at the desk at 6 am when I checked out (to get on the road) and apologized for the welfare crowd carrying-on in the lobby the prior afternoon when I checked in.
The staff were absolutely the friendliest and the rooms were clean.

Convenient location and friendly staff.
bed comfortable, great pillows, clean, breakfast provided.
Our original room was given away by a staff member earlier in the day. The current staff that was there when we arrived however, went out of her way to provide us with a more satisfactory, replacement room.

Top Tips
- Book your room as early as possible when major events like the Fayette County Fair or the Vandalia Homecoming Festival are scheduled. Demand increases quickly and specific room types or accessible rooms can become unavailable several weeks out.
- For direct highway access, choose hotels within 0.5 miles of I-70. To explore Vandalia's history on foot, stay within 1 mile of the Vandalia Statehouse or Main Street; several chain hotels are in this area.
- Before booking, compare recent guest feedback for each hotel on TripAdvisor or Google, focusing on ratings for bed comfort, cleanliness, and staff responsiveness posted in the last 6 months.
- Always confirm check-in and check-out hours directly. Many independent hotels in Vandalia enforce strict times or charge for late departures. Call ahead for early check-in requests to avoid surprises.
- Since Vandalia lacks city bus routes, plan to drive and prioritize hotels with onsite free parking. For trucks or trailers, verify parking capacity as most lots accommodate vehicles up to standard pickup sizes, but oversized spots may be limited.
- For essential breakfast needs, check if your hotel offers a hot breakfast buffet, continental options, or grab-and-go bags. Service typically runs 6:30-9:30 AM; confirm hours if your family needs earlier or later options.
- Business travelers should verify Wi-Fi speed and workspace availability. Speeds over 25 Mbps are rare. For meetings, ask directly if a dedicated room is available, as most local hotels have limited business facilities.
- If bringing a pet, call to confirm pet room availability and clarify fees. Most hotels charge a $15 to $50 non-refundable cleaning fee and may limit weight to 50 lbs (23 kg) per animal.
- For check-in, local hotels require a government-issued photo ID and a credit or debit card for a hold covering estimated incidentals. Expect 6-12% in local lodging tax added at checkout.
- Health and COVID-19 safety measures, such as mask requirements or limited housekeeping, may change by operator and season. Confirm current protocols directly with the hotel prior to arrival, as policies may update with little notice.
- Plan for limited late-night dining in Vandalia. Most restaurants close by 9:00 PM. Consider booking hotels with in-room microwaves or onsite snack shops, or bring packaged snacks for late arrivals.
- Most local hotels observe quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. For a positive stay, tip housekeeping $15 per night, following Midwestern hospitality customs.
- Front desk staff are valuable local resources. Ask for walking routes to the Vandalia Statehouse, recommendations for family-friendly restaurants, or details on current seasonal events within a 2-mile radius.
- For step-free or accessible rooms, contact the hotel directly before booking to confirm features such as roll-in showers or visual alarms. Older properties in Vandalia may offer only one or two fully accessible rooms.
- For stays over 4 nights, check if onsite guest laundry is available. The nearest laundromat is within 2 miles of most hotel clusters. Ask about multi-night or weekly rates, which can be 10-15% lower than daily prices.
- Families should confirm pool hours, often 8:00 AM-9:00 PM, and whether the property provides complimentary cribs or rollaway beds. Smaller hotels may only have 1 or 2 cribs, so reserve early for peak dates.
- If eligible, present AAA, AARP, military, or government ID at check-in. Many Vandalia hotels offer 10% off standard rates or seasonal packages with late checkout and breakfast included; ask at time of booking.
- Check the Vandalia events calendar before you book. Major festivals often increase nightly rates by 20-30%. Decide if you want festive crowds or quieter stays; event schedules publish 4 to 6 months ahead online.
