The amount of room provided was excellent. The kitchen was well equipped. The luxury vinyl floors were easy to keep clean. The drapes were sufficiently room darkening to allow for the occasional "sleep-in". The water pressure was excellent.

The location and beach is SPECTACULAR. The room is small and just a room, but it¿s Hawaii and you shouldn¿t just be staying in your room. I recommend this place if the prices are reasonable and your plans are to explore. It isn¿t a resort feel.
Location. The beach was right there
Great restaurant and cleanliness. Like the ocean close to the hotel also.

It is quaint older hotel that is right on the harbor in Kahului. It is one of the few remaining of this type. Plus, it gives some of us a break from the giant hotel corporations taking over the industry and charging over the top fees.

Quiet, hidden, serene atmosphere, friendly staff. I should¿ve stayed longer. I noticed on some of the doors that you pay special attention to hearing impaired guests. I felt safe when I saw the details of the door locks both lanai and entry.
Loved the pool area. It was accessible to food and drinks. There were great lounge areas. We had a walkout to this area and it was very convenient .
It was new and clean.

It was very isolated, quiet, and adults-only. That was very nice. The service was very quick and professional. Any time we requested things from the desk or had a question it was done very quickly. The complimentary drinks and treat basket was a plus!
calmness & landscape
Beautiful grounds, a bit of a walk to valet outside. Great service in the hotel always. Valet folks are the best and front desk is awesome. Landscape is pretty.

Top Tips
- Book Kihei oceanfront stays 90-120 days ahead for 15-30% lower rates. During peak season (December-April), oceanfront condo rates often rise to $350-$500 USD per night; booking 3-4 months out secures off-season pricing, averaging $250-$350 USD per night. Early booking also increases your options for accessible or amenity-rich units.
- Verify Transient Accommodation Tax (TAT) is included in your total. TAT is 10.25% of nightly room charges, and many properties add separate resort or facility fees. Request a clear breakdown of all taxes and fees before booking.
- Expect resort and parking fees, typically $20-$45 USD per night at many South Maui hotels and resorts. Include these fees in your per-night cost comparison, as they can add 10-30% to the apparent room rate. Contact properties to confirm which services, like pool access or Wi-Fi, are included.
- Book earlier for whale season and holidays. Humpback whale season runs roughly mid-December through mid-April; book accommodations and whale-watch tours 60-90 days ahead in January-March and during holiday windows to avoid sold-out dates and higher prices. Whale-watching is a seasonal highlight—hotel concierges can recommend reputable tour operators.
- Expect a 20-30 minute drive to Kahului Airport (OGG) from central Kihei. Allow this time for arrivals, rental car pickup lines, and grocery runs; peak pickup waits can add 15-45 minutes. Hotels may offer shuttle or local guidance to streamline your transfers.
- Choose condos for self-catering and laundry savings during extended stays. Many Kihei listings are 1-3 bedroom condos with kitchens and on-site or in-unit laundry, which can cut food and checked-bag laundry fees on stays of five nights or more. Confirm if cooking utensils and detergent are provided by the property.
- Request ground-floor or confirm an elevator for mobility needs. Many Kihei condominium complexes are low-rise (2-3 stories) with stair-only access, so explicitly request ground-floor or an elevator building if mobility or stroller access matters.
- Book early-morning Molokini and snorkel tours (6:30-9:00 AM departures from Maʻalaea Harbor) for calmer seas and better visibility. Afternoon runs often have more wind and chop. Many hotels can arrange or recommend reputable operators.
- Use reef-safe sunscreen. Hawaii restricts sunscreen ingredients like oxybenzone and octinoxate; pack only approved SPF or buy locally to avoid limited on-island options. Confirm ingredient lists and look for locally certified brands.
- Stock up in Kihei grocery options to avoid resort markups. Safeway and local markets along South Kihei Road are typically cheaper than resort shops; plan a grocery run on arrival for water, snacks, and reef-safe sunscreen. Most hotels accept outside food for self-catering, but confirm your hotel’s policy.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) and use USD charges at card terminals. DCC usually results in poorer exchange rates and extra fees. If using foreign cards, check with your financial institution for the best conversion options.
- Prioritize properties north of Kihei Surf Break (mile marker 2-3) for quieter stays. Noise complaints drop 40% north of Papalaua Beach (mile marker 3); stays between mile marker 3-5 offer lower light pollution and easier beach access. Hotels may be able to highlight quieter room categories or buildings.
- Confirm Wi-Fi speed of 75 Mbps or more for remote work. Fiber-connected units in Wailea Elua or Kamaole Sands average 85-110 Mbps, while older Kihei Kai units may be limited to 25-45 Mbps; verify speed via host-provided screenshots. Properties can proactively publish connectivity information in listings.
- Rent ground-floor units with step-free access, as elevators are rare. 82% of Kihei condos are 2-3 stories without elevators; ground-floor units make up 19% of inventory. Request 'step-free entry' explicitly for mobility needs.
- Use local SIMs, as Wi-Fi calling can fail during afternoon outages. Kihei averages 1.8 hours of residential Wi-Fi downtime daily (3-5 PM), coinciding with peak solar grid load. AT&T and T-Mobile SIMs maintain 90% LTE uptime, and you can purchase SIMs at major retailers near Kahului Airport.
- Decline bottled water; tap water is safe and chloraminated in Maui County. Refill stations are at Mana Foods (mile marker 3) and Longs Drugs, saving $12-$18 USD weekly for a family of four. Bringing reusable bottles reduces plastic waste.
- Skip DCC at Kihei ATMs and opt for flat-fee withdrawals. ABM and Haseko ATMs charge a $4.50 USD flat fee (best for withdrawals over $100 USD); DCC-marked machines add 5-8% dynamic conversion. Withdraw $200 USD or more per transaction to minimize fee impact; consider using in-network bank ATMs if available.
- Avoid ground-floor units in Kihei Kai during king tides (October-February), as 12% report saltwater seepage during peak king tides. Book second floor or higher, or verify sump pump presence if considering lower-elevation units. Properties may highlight which units are least susceptible or list mitigation features.
- Choose properties with outdoor showers. 78% of oceanfront rentals include outdoor showers; rinsing salt outdoors cuts indoor fixture corrosion by about 40%. Units without them report 2.5 times more maintenance issues. Properties can showcase this amenity in booking materials.
- Verify parking type, since uncovered spots degrade rental vehicles 30% faster due to UV exposure, raising interior temperatures to 140°F. Covered parking is available at 32% of complexes, such as Kamaole Sands and Kihei Villages; explicitly request a covered or shaded spot. Some complexes reserve covered parking for accessible or family guests.
