There wasn?t a single thing I liked about my stay in this dirty, obsolete, falling-down hotel.
The only plus was the price. But you get what you pay for.

Seeing an older property, and the great rate we did not expect much. But it is updated, cleaner than most 3 and 4 stars we have stayed at. The people were all great and the attached Mexican restaurant is clean and very tastefully decorated.
the room was very spacious and clean.

Unique Property n Professional, Friendly staff
Staff were welcoming and friendly. The lobby was nice with a tall Christmas tree and gift shop. Across the street is a Dennys, other restaurants. and gas stations.
My comment is the restaurant had excellent food choices for breakfast.

The employees are all amazing and super friendly. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable & the tub is large enough to actually take a bath which is unusual in chain hotels. The breakfast was a full breakfast not just pre-wrapped muffins.

Top Tips
- Reserve your hotel room 2-4 weeks in advance for standard rates and typical room selections. For peak summer (June-August) or winter holidays, booking 2-3 months ahead helps avoid sellouts and can save up to 15% compared to last-minute rates. Compare midweek and weekend prices, as Trinidad hotels often adjust rates around local events or festivals.
- Choose a downtown or Main Street hotel to walk within 0.5 miles to museums and leading restaurants, or select a property near I-25 for direct highway access to Trinidad Lake State Park, located 8 miles south. For example, chains like Holiday Inn Express are central, though downtown parking for non-guests may be limited.
- Most Trinidad hotels offer free on-site parking, but confirm in advance if spaces accommodate vehicles over 20 ft or if you need snow-cleared areas during winter. Travelers with larger vehicles or trailers should prearrange parking, as historic properties may restrict RV or bus access.
- Public transportation in Trinidad is limited. Secure a rental car to reach destinations beyond downtown, such as Fishers Peak State Park, which is 6 miles from town. If arriving by Amtrak, pre-arrange a hotel transfer or licensed local taxi, as ride-share services are infrequent. Guests with mobility needs should confirm accessible taxi or shuttle options before arriving.
- Trinidad is at 6,000 ft elevation. Hydrate frequently and limit alcohol to reduce common altitude effects like headache and mild fatigue, usually in the first 24 hours. International guests should be aware of altitude symptoms, and some hotels provide complimentary water at check-in.
- Follow U.S. tipping guidelines: $15 per bag for bellhops, $15 per day for housekeeping, and a 15-20% tip for food and drink purchased onsite. Tip housekeeping by leaving cash in the room marked 'Housekeeping,' and check if gratuities are included on room service bills.
- Colorado bans public cannabis consumption, and over 90% of Trinidad hotels prohibit all indoor smoking (including tobacco, marijuana, and vaping). Ask staff about outdoor smoking areas to avoid $250 or higher fines or eviction. Violations may result in extra cleaning charges to the credit card used at check-in.
- Wi-Fi speed and reliability can vary; request recent guest feedback if remote work or streaming is needed. Many hotels provide free business center access, and larger chains often offer 24-hour business lounge access, but printing and meeting room use may have extra fees.
- Many Trinidad hotels are pet-friendly with a typical one-time cleaning fee of $15 to $75; verify weight limits (often up to 50 lbs) and outdoor relief area availability before booking. Some major hotel chains also provide pet beds or treats.
- Families can request rollaway beds, cribs, connecting rooms, or kitchenettes at most mid-range and all-suite hotels. Microwaves and fridges are typically included, but verify this when booking. Chains like Holiday Inn Express may offer free breakfast for children or have onsite family lounges.
- Check recent guest reviews for up-to-date feedback on room cleanliness, Wi-Fi reliability, and nighttime noise, especially from trains (tracks are under 0.3 miles from downtown hotels). Use major review platforms for the latest ratings.
- Standard check-in is typically 3-4 pm and checkout by 11 am at Trinidad hotels. Boutique properties may not allow early arrivals; ask about complimentary luggage storage if arriving before check-in. Some chain hotels also offer self-check-in kiosks for late-night arrivals.
- Store valuables like passports and electronics in your in-room safe, and always lock your vehicle. Park in well-lit or visible hotel lots, as vehicle break-ins may occur closer to highways or in less-trafficked areas. Consider locking travel bags or using trackers if carrying valuables outside.
- Cell coverage can drop in nearby canyons or while hiking at Fishers Peak State Park, 6 miles east. Download offline maps and save hotel contact details before trips outside Trinidad's core. Ask the front desk for tips on Wi-Fi access in remote recreation spots.
- Hotel front desk teams can offer custom maps for breakfast spots within a 10-minute walk or provide advice on mural locations near Elm Street. Inquire about hotel-led tours or social hours, which some chains offer, for local orientation.
- Trinidad nightlife is limited, and most attractions, including museums and galleries, close by 6 pm. Plan evening activities ahead, like booking a Main Street restaurant. Many hotels provide guest lounges, games rooms, or fire pits as alternatives in the evening.
- Pack for variable weather; Trinidad often sees 20°F daily swings. Bring sun protection, hiking shoes, and refillable water bottles. For winter trips, include traction devices for icy roads when driving to sites like Trinidad Lake. Many hotels rent gear or can recommend nearby supply stores.
- Book a locally owned B&B in the historic district for a unique experience; many are within 0.2 miles of main attractions and serve regional breakfast specialties on request. Verify accessibility features in advance, since historic B&Bs may have stairs or no elevators.
- Show valid government photo ID and a credit card for check-in; Trinidad lodging taxes add 10-15% to your rate at all hotels. Most properties require an incidental deposit, refunded at checkout if there’s no damage. International guests should note debit cards may face extra holds or not be accepted.
- Solo travelers benefit from hotels near Main and Commercial Streets due to street lighting and proximity (5-10 minute walk) to eateries. Ask the front desk for the safest, well-lit routes at night, and consider using hotel shuttle services if available after dark.
- Business guests should choose hotels with high-speed or wired Wi-Fi and dedicated work desks. Most chain hotels offer 6 am breakfast and business center access; verify meeting room and complimentary printing hours. Some properties also provide express checkout.
- Families and groups can reach the beach at Trinidad Lake State Park in 10 minutes by car or join guided history walks from the downtown visitor center, located 0.3 miles from major hotels. Ask your hotel for referrals to approved tour operators and check for available guest discounts at local attractions.
