From the moment you step into the lobby (which is a bit smaller than you'd imagine from such a big building), the staff are welcoming. Our king room was spacious, had lots of outlets for phones, laptops, etc, and the bath was large.

Top Tips
- Book Walnut Creek hotels 45-60 days before arrival for optimal rates. Prices for 4-star hotels rise 32% within 30 days of stay. Booking early also increases the chance of securing more room types or upgrades, and flexible rates at large chain hotels may have different price dynamics.
- Factor in a 14.75% total occupancy tax in Walnut Creek, which includes city, state, and county fees, adding $15-$40 USD per night to mid-range stays. Check if this tax is included in your hotel quote, as loyalty program rates at major chains may show tax-exclusive pricing.
- Prioritize hotels within 400 meters of the Walnut Creek BART station for reliable Bay Area transit access. This reduces rental car dependency by 70% for trips to San Francisco or Oakland, and many major hotels near BART also offer free local shuttle service.
- If staying near Broadway and Main Street, you can skip the rental car—downtown Walnut Creek has a Walk Score of 84, with hotel parking averaging $22-$34 USD per night. Explore the safe, walkable downtown with local dining and shopping options readily accessible.
- Request a back-facing room to limit nighttime freeway noise. Front-facing rooms near I-680 register 52-58 dB, about 12 dB higher than rear rooms. Some hotels offer city or garden view rooms as quieter alternatives.
- Confirm Wi-Fi upload speeds of at least 10 Mbps for remote work. The Walnut Creek Marriott offers 20 Mbps upload speeds, and if in-room Wi-Fi is slow, many area hotels provide business centers or co-working spaces.
- Use ATMs inside Wells Fargo on Main Street to avoid $3.50 USD surcharge fees common at two downtown hotel ATMs. Guests often can access in-hotel business centers for ATM services, and some chain hotels allow small cash withdrawals at the front desk.
- Skip Downtown Mall hotels during the Walnut Creek Art & Wine Festival (September), as rates spike 48-62% and occupancy hits 98%. Book outside a 1.2 km radius or 90+ days in advance, and verify event dates with the city or hotel before reserving.
- Explicitly request step-free access when booking, as 40% of Walnut Creek hotels built before 1990 may lack elevator access to rooms. National brand hotels built or renovated after 1990 typically meet ADA requirements, but call ahead to confirm a step-free room.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at check-in to avoid a 4-7% hidden margin on your bill. Always pay in local currency (USD), and note all major U.S. hotels accept standard payment cards; ask about possible foreign transaction fees at check-in.
- Choose hotels with in-room mini-fridges to cut bottled water use; chilled tap water, which is safe but has 120 ppm calcium carbonate, can replace about 4 bottles per stay. Most top hotels can provide filtered water on request if desired.
- Quiet hours begin at 10 p.m. at residential-adjacent hotels like Embassy Suites near Civic Park due to local noise ordinances. For evening activity, take advantage of nearby walkable restaurants or cultural venues that observe quiet hours.
