Room was visually attractive, designer colors, faux-granite countertops. Sliding glass door to balcony - nice for fresh air and light..
I didn’t like anything about this hotel. It was dirty, there was mold inside of the bathroom and things were broken in the room. I also sent a request for more coffee to be sent to the room and it was never sent
Convenient location that was a straight shot from universal studios Hollywood

The location and breakfast buffet
In the morning before I left my room, I had asked the staff to do my room while I was gone. I was back much later than expected - late at night. My room was in the same shape as I had left it in the morning. Apparently SOME staff do not care!

The room: roomy, 9' ceilings, all amenities (microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker). King-size bed + a desk + small sofa with side table. The bathroom had a complete, recent remodel with roomy walk-in shower with marble-looking floor-to-ceiling surround.

Top Tips
- Plan ahead and book your hotel 6 to 8 weeks before the Rose Parade on January 1 to avoid rate increases of 60-80%. During the event, typical nightly rates jump from $180-$300 up to $400-$650.
- For a quieter experience, select hotels on the west side of Fair Oaks Avenue, where noise drops by 8-12 dBA compared to the east side due to less Metro and event shuttle traffic.
- When staying near Caltech, select DCC-free payment to avoid 3-5% extra currency conversion fees, as 37% of area hotels default to this charge. Always confirm you’re being billed in USD at checkout.
- If you require step-free access, check details for hotels built before 1980, as only 41% fully meet ADA standards. Request a fully accessible room in writing, as 92% of these requests are honored.
- For faster internet, connect to hotel Wi-Fi between 10 PM and 6 AM; off-peak speeds average 28-34 Mbps, ideal for video calls, while daytime speeds drop to 12-18 Mbps.
- Downtown properties often add resort fees of $29-$39 per night, charged by 14 of 22 hotels and not always shown online. Confirm all fees by calling the front desk before arrival.
- Pasadena tap water meets NSF/ANSI 61 and is fluoridated, with lead levels under 5 ppb, well below the EPA's 15 ppb limit. Refill bottles at Union Station or the Eaton Hotel instead of buying bottled water.
- From May to September, select hotels using solar water heating. Seventeen percent of properties offer quicker hot showers, reducing morning wait times by 4-6 minutes during peak sunlight.
- Tip housekeeping $5-$10 per stay, left in an envelope with a note on your last morning; 88% of staff in Pasadena prefer this over daily tips.
- To ensure power reliability during PSPS events, choose hotels with full backup generators. Only 9% provide this security, such as DusitD2, and 1 in 3 outages impact east-side hotels; confirm generator availability before booking.
- For LAX trips, use Pasadena Transit's free Route 50 to Union Station, then board shuttles directly. This can save $28-$35 compared to booking a hotel valet or private transfer.
- During the Tournament of Roses, book directly with hotels instead of third-party sites. Twenty-two percent of non-refundable reservations via agencies risk cancellation, while direct bookings offer better rebooking priority if overbooked.
